As a 60 year old country boy my vote is change to the wood stock and forearm but not sold on cutting the barrel yet. I do see your opinion on getting rid of the threads and thread protector. My concern is getting the sight moved back with no bozos . I know it can be done but putting the hole back into the top of the barrel and threading it for the small sight screw would make me a nervous wreck . Afraid of breaking a tap off into the barrel. I just got a new parting off tool for my lathe and the threads were not right so I tried re-threading it to hold the insert and of course broke the tap off. I've tried everything to get it out. No luck. Good luck on what ever you decide to do. But please video it when you tackle this project.
The stocks are personal preference. Leave the barrel alone--the very last thing that you want is to run afoul of any law enforcement agencies, accidentally or not. The law doesn't care. I'd love to find one around where I am. I almost bought an X in .45 Colt about two years ago, but didn't, and I've been regretting it ever since. I've also seen the X in .45-70, which would be a bit bigger.
I’m surprised the wood stocks weren’t an option in the first place. Add the wood and leave the barrel alone. JMO. No scope, no suppressor and no flash hider. Keep it a Cowboy’s rifle.
That's a good price. In fact, I considered going with the 44 mag simply because it was cheaper and available from many locations but the main reason I wanted 357 was to compliment both of my 357 revolvers. If I had gone with a 44 mag I would have had to buy a 44 mag revolver and start stocking up on 44 mag ammo. I don't know why the 357 is the hardest to find and the most expensive.
@@kolbyhumbert2680 I am in Allen TX. After a year of looking I went in and asked If they could and they said yes. I had to pay for it up front but got it in about 1 month.
Hmmmm, buy classic lever action or………..buy a tactical lever action and spend lots of money making it look like a classic lever action. What to do, what to do. 🤦🏽♂️
Got the 38/357 360 buckhammer 30/30 and 410 in last year. All in X model. Keep it like it comes. All shoot great.
I put skinner sights on mine , I sure love them
I will check them out.
What exact sights did you get from skinner? I can’t decide what ones to get
Can't wait to see what you end up with finishing it but keep us updated love this !!!
I will be doing a video on both the wood stock and forearm and the shortening of the barrel.
Love Henry rifles

That is the main concern I have is the threaded hole.
Excellent presentation. It would be great to see the wood furniture conversion......................Cheers!
I am getting ready to do it soon.

Agree with the wood stock if that’s what floats your boat but I wouldn’t touch the barrel,my 2 cents.

That's kind of why I want to shorten the barrel and get rid of the threads.
@@737mechanic And you could alter the crown at a later date if needed.
Any updates with the wood stock set on the rifle? Nice rifle
I have not done it yet, I have been busy and haven't got around to it. There will be a video when I do it.
Sounds good, I am looking forward to it@@737mechanic Looking forward to it! Ty Sir
I concur, leave the barrel alone, wood stocks look great!
Beauty rifle
I paid 864.00 for the X in 44 mag 4 weeks ago. Honest dealer that is not looking to make a huge profit.

Where did you buy this from? Can’t find one in .357 in New England
I had cabellas put an order in with henry.
@@737mechanic what Cabela’s? I’m in CT and they said they couldn’t get it

@@737mechanic no kidding, I’ll have to try that thank you!
Its not an AR nor is anyone gonna be clearing rooms with a sweet lever action...leave the barrel alone
Well, by no means just buy one with a 16-inch barrel 😮
They don't make a model X with a 16in barrel.

Henry rifles kinda suck
Umm No not really.
You should have just bought a side gate carbine. 16" barrel with wood furniture.
Yup. Finding what I wanted was tough.
