The .357 rifle does not have the set screw in the loading tube. I had to remove both factory tenons, fit the RP handguard down the still attached loading tube, lift the RP handguard up and away from the barrel a bit and then insert the RP tenon. The RP tenon will not go all the way in yet, it has to stick out far enough to allow you to get the factory tenon at the end of the rifle lined up but inserted far enough to lower the handguard. Lower the handguard and then hammer both tenons back into place alternating between the two. It helps if the RP tenon isn't a super tight fit. Add blue loctite and set screws. I would not want to do this again and probably would send it out to get done professionally.... but I had my rifle all apart when I found out there was no set screw in a 357.
Actually, there is a load tube set screw, but not under the screw as seen in the video. I actually disassembled my .357 model X to preserve the OG handguard and found the little screw holding the mag tube in place. It is offset from the screw hole from the vid and is hidden and is only assessable if you disassemble the receiver. It was a learning experience. Fortunately, I had no issues reassembling the rifle with no issues. This was all with the RPP gen 1 handguard. I hope I do not have to do that with installing the gen2 with the loading port cutout.
@@natewebb4175 I just installed the gen 2 on my 45 colt. Did not dismantle the receiver. Not that bad of a process. Definitely wet sand the new tenon provided and chamfered the edges of the loading gat me tenon. The hand guard will tilt past a 45 degree angle so you will have plenty of room to tap both in. Definitely lock tight them both. Good luck
For anyone who is really struggling to get the mag tube support tenon (front tenon) back in as described in the video, you aren't alone. I tried chamfering the corners as recommended and probably went way too far, but I still couldn't get it to twist on while on the mag tube. When I would remove the mag tube and just try fitting the front tenon in, it would almost slide in. I had spent a couple hours grinding it on sandpaper and just couldn't get it to "twist on." This is because the new handguard tenon that comes with the handguard is much larger and allows a lot less side to side wiggle in the mag tube. It is very robust, which I like, but makes inserting the mag tube tenon difficult. What ended up working for me was to put the mag tube through the handguard and insert it into the receiver. Then I pulled the front end of the handguard away from the barrel, exposing the handguard tenon. I tapped that tenon out about halfway, which angled the mag tube out, then put the mag tube tenon on the front of the mag tube. I slowly punched the handguard tenon back in while also guiding the mag tube tenon into place with occasional taps to the mag tube tenon (remember I ended up chamfering mine too much, so it was fairly loose. You may need to go tap for tap between the two tenons so they stay lined up) until both were directly in the middle. I wish I had started with this technique instead of wasting 2 hours and putting extra scratches on my mag tube and barrel while pushing and pulling and tapping and twisting and failing miserably. Feel free to comment with questions if I didn't explain it well enough. Hopefully this helps anyone else who is struggling with getting that mag tube tenon in place! For reference, I have a Henry model X in 45-70.
I wish I read your comment first. I ended up doing the exact same thing with my 45-70. Finally did it the same way you did. Thanks for writing this up, hopefully someone will benefit.
I didn't go as far before I read your post. I spent about 30 minutes fighting it and then came back and read the comments...I almost missed the "Read More" clicked on that and found the answer... 20 minutes later my hand guard was installed perfectly. Thanks...
I guess maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but from what I've seen in this video and reading over your tip, can you not just re-install the mag tube and both tenons and then just put the handguard on over top? Seems like it fits right over them considering you were able to move it away from the barrel enough to expose the tenon. Like I said, might be getting ahead of myself...I'm still stuck just trying to get the handgaurd tenon in place so knowing there might be another step ahead that is difficult is really daunting
Like others have said. This comment is a massive time saver. Struggled for over an hour with trying to put front tenon in. Read this comment, done in 2 minutes. thank you.
I removed the factory hand guard in about a minute by putting two flat screw drivers in the slots in front of the handguard screws (one on each side) and spread open the hand guard just enough to slide it past the tenon and out the front .
if you are at the 9:25 mark on the video, and are having a hard time getting that last tenden in the dovetail. what worked for me was once I was at that point all I did was raise the muzzle end of the hand guard and I was able to see the other tenden which gives you wiggle room to just slide it in and hammer it down than just push down the muzzle end of the hand guard and screw every thing in!
I've got four Henry's (2 All Weather (.44 Mag / 45-70)) and 2 X Model's (.44 / 45-70) and plan to make these mods as you've done. I was doing the tally on how much $$$ it was going to cost to have done, but after your video, I'm going to give it a go when the bank say it's OK. Awesome video and thanks for posting these details.
Thanks so much! That's my goal for these videos, to save you guys money and make the gun mean a little more because you did it yourself. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Thanks for getting this up! I’ve been waiting on RPP to get the Sniper Green Gen 2 back in stock and as soon as it is, I’m placing my order. Best believe I’ll have your video playing in the background the day it gets to my house!
Dude between this one and the Gen2 pistol grip barrel removal you were a god! I've never taken apart a pistol or a rifle before other than regular maintenance as I am a new PAL owner and I was able to do this modification and wasn't too difficult with your instructions. I do know I would have broke something or bent the barrel if I didn't use you as a guide. Just wanted to reach out and say thanks
HELPFUL TIPS FROM SOMEONE WHO JUST DID THIS INSTALL!!!! Just did this install. Went with the video. And everything went great besides 2 things which he did warn about. First . Should've went through the comments too. I spent about 10 minutes sanding on the hand guard tenon before attempting putting it in. Make sure it is snug. NOT TIGHT! I got stuck and i had to get a punch pin to get it out and put a nasty scatch on the barrel. 100% my fault. I actually also slightly bent the tenon and had to use a vise to get it back straight. Take your time and make sure you hardly need to use the hammer before installing it. I think i spent about 30 minutes total sanding it down before i got it mostly in by hand and only had to use the hammer a little bit. But i got it Second. The front tenon sucks. No way around it. I did everything he recommended and still struggled. I ended up getting it close and then had to use vise grips to get it started before hammering it in. It did leave some slight scratches on it. But nothing to bad. Once you get it started its not to bad. All in all its a great video and follow the instructions to a T.
Thank you so much for your videos regarding your installing the hand guards and butt stock. They were instrumental in showing me what needed to be done.
Just wanted to say thanks for a great tutorial. I just installed my Costa Gen II on my Henry 44 mag and everything went drama free following your video. One thing that worked for me was using a flat file and running the tenon back and forth until I got a tight fit. Took 10 minutes.
Great Video as always. Couple of questions. 1. What is a reasonable price to pay for Cerakoting that Henry rifle? 2. What brand model is that butt stock and where is it available? (I’m likely mentioned it before and if so I’d appreciate it if you could repeat the info). 3. Do you think it would be possible to mount a rear and possibly a front flip up iron sights for the gun? I’m curious cause this could possible solve the clearance problem with the scope or larger scopes. Thanks again.
A one color AR cerakote from SlideWorks Eng ( hand guard, upper and lower) cost 150. So you can gauge the price from that. Butt stock is from Form Rifle Stock, think it cost like 300-400 USD. You could look into Midwest industries, they have a hand guard package that includes rear and front sights along with a picattiny rail.
Disassembling the gun was pretty easy up until I had to remove my mag tube that was in there pretty good. The hole for the set screw was slightly mushroomed out from factory so it was tough. I think I slightly bent the end but it’s barely noticeable. Definitely suggest to take your time and go easy for anyone else attempting it. Thanks for the video was very helpful.
Had a REALLY tough time getting the tube back in… like really tough. Didn’t want to force it so tried moving the channel back and forth a little. Wondering if the channel got a little wonky when i was twisting it to get it lined up right and knocking back into the dovetail .. :/. Now i can’t get it back out. Not sure what to do now. Dang it 😮 very frustrated right now. Ugh
Thank you for sharing. I finally figured out the installation of the gen 2 hand guard. Putting the front tenon back on was a pain and where 99% of the $&;%# took place. Your video definitely made it look easier. Thank you so much.
Could you provide a video or guidance of how to get the front tenon back on? Once I get this on I’m done! Your instructions were great but I cannot get this dang front tenon back on!
I am not sure if you comments. But I’m trying to take the putter mag tube out. I was able to unscrew the flat screw but I don’t there there is a Allen screen on the bottom and I can’t seem to take out the outer mag. Any suggestions or help?
I got the install completed but the inner mag tube is much tighter than it should be. Assuming the outer tube got bent a little in the process. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I installed the Gen 2 Henry Handguard today, I also bought the 5 inch Rhino picatinny rail mount for the rear of the rifle but I can't get the rail to be flush with the first gator mount... any ideas?
There is enough play with the hand guard you can have it in at the back and tilted up and away at the front then you can top both dove tails in at the same time like in the previous video.
Just use rubber mullet. U gonna need to hit it hard from the left side to the right (assuming you were aiming at the sight). I dont know if this is tapered but most videos are doing it this way. Also, I did it on the floor. Make sure you have something to cover your steel so it won't get scratched.
Hi, Do you know where I can get that style buttstock or synthetic stock, or the furniture and pic rail for the levertac 92 357 to upgrade my Rossi 92 357 carbine? Thanks
Hello! I have a question I’m hoping you can answer. For the Costa hand guard is it the same install process as this version 2 or is it different? Do you guys have a video on the install uploaded! Thank you.
My Gen 2 didn't come with any mag tube tenon.. , but maybe it's not required for the Smith & Wesson 1854 model? Guess I have nothing holding my magazine tube except the top twist lock.
When you removed the set screws that hold the mag tube, the outer one of yours is much much longer than mine. Mine is like 2mm long and doesn't touch the inner set screw unless you screw it way down into the hole. Not sure what's up there.
Do you have to do lapping just afraid to oversand it. A lot of peoples comments are worrying me about doing the install myself. Have the Henry model x 44.
Long shot question - followed this to a tee today but am having trouble getting it to feed from the side gate. The first bullet goes in just perfectly, but the second one gets jammed up and I cannot get it to load. Empty rounds with no bullets go in easier and the gun loads and cycles perfect if i use it from the tube fed side. Any idea? I love the look of the gun but cannot suppress it in the current state.
This is a great video but I learned a valuable lesson from this (after three hours to make this work), Henry was not meant to be jazzed out by Ranger Point Precision. This was poorly conceived by them. My Marlin took 1/8 the time or perhaps even less.
I wonder how the fit is with the gen ll handguard. Ranger Point won't return it if not. I had bad luck with their medium loop that doesn't fit. I'll pass on their handguard going with Midwest Industries .
Some help here guys.... I tried to do the install for the RPP mlok handguard. I did the worst thing and bent the tenon that came with the mlok handguard. I did the lapping as instructed with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I slid the tenon in and it went in smoothly about half to 3/4 of the way. Then it got stuck. I tried to hit it back out with a nylon hammer and it bent the tenon. Wasn't sure what to do so I reassembled using the factory tenon and factory screws. Don't know if this is ok to do, but got it all back together and used the tensioning set screws. Everything works as it should. I fed 7 rounds thru the side gate easily and cycled each one of them. No issues at all. Still have not fired but everything seems to be great functionally. I have since contacted RPP to see if I could buy a tenon by itself. No reply yet. Does anyone see an issue with using the factory tenon on the RPP mlok handguard?
Definitely interested to see if the tensioning screws/rigidity of the v2 handguard have any affect on accuracy. My stock x model 30-30 likes Federal HammerDown a little more than PowerShok
hey guys, so I'm trying to get the front tenon off using a mallet but I'm having difficulty. Is there a different method for short barrel lever actions? I have a .44mag and cant seem to get the front tenon off no matter how hard I try.
My Big Boy X in 357/38 doesn't have that set screw for the mag tube. I have everything done up to that point but I can't get the mag tube out. Any suggestions?
Hey brotha, I had a quick question if you could. I just got a Henry 30-30 H009 lever gun but it's a straight stock and I like the pistol grip stocks more. Do you know if there is a conversion kit to change this at all or what I would need to change to put a pistol grip stock on?
There isn’t a conversion kit. To change it, you will need to replace the trigger plate with one made for a curved stock, and of course a curved stock. Good luck!
Love your videos, keep up the great work. I just inherited an old Winchester 94ae 30-30 that unfortunately wasn't kept up with and I would love to send it to someone to refurb and replace whatever is needed. Didn't know if you had anyone you can recommend? Appreciate any help you can provide
Could you do a video of changing the RPP Gen 1 to install the RPP Gen 2 handguard? The real question is, if you have the Gen 1 installed, how much as to be disassembled to install the Gen 2? The Henry Model X .357 Mag version has a retaining screw for the mag tube that is in a different location than where yours is in the video and requires disassembling the receiver to get at it. I had to do that to find that screw when I installed the Gen 1. I do not want to play with the 2 tenons again and hope that it is less work if you have the Gen 1 installed (tenons installed). Can you comment?
Since you already have the tenon installed, you don’t have to mess with it anymore. Yep, I did a video with a .44 mag that shows the hidden mag tube screw 👍 The only tenon you have to mess with is the on at the end of the mag tube. Super easy 👍👍
@@buildhuntxplore So I still have to remove the mag tube, hence the disassembly of the receiver to get at the “hidden” retaining screw as it is not assessable under the trigger guard screw and move the front tenon to thread it out of the old rear retaining plate and then thread the mag tube thru the back end of the new handguard and try to dovetail fit the front tenon back in? Ugh. In your video you were mentioning the possibility of having to chamfer the corners if it could not slide in the dovetail slot. This and having to go through the reassembly of the receiver. I just practice makes perfect, or a costly repair bill if I screw it up :-(. Your first video it what convinced me to get the RRP handguard and I hav been very happy with it. Seeing the load gate cutout version of the Gen 2 is what is making me think about an upgrade. I just have to figure “if the juice is worth the squeeze”.
Whether it is a .357 magnum, or a 45-70, lever guns are tougher, more solid, not prone to problems AR 15’s encounter. As far as capacity which always seems to be the big deal, you can carry ammo holders that wrap around your body, or pouches that hold 100 rounds at least. A person could load on the run through the side gate. This is something an AR 15 cannot do!!
I hate to say it but after installing this for the last couple hours I deeply regret purchasing it. Bums me out to say this because of how excited I initially was to get this handrail but I wasted my entire day to get it to work and all for a hand rail. It looks bad ass I’ll admit but damn is it a pain to install and not worth it to me. The last step to get the magazine tube on seems insane to me. They really manufactured this and thought that was a good “solution” to install it? That seems crazy to me. At that point keep the gen 1 design?? No hate to the gunsmith working it he’s done a hell of a job making it look so easy but damn. If you really want one, buy it. Just make sure you make it your local gun smiths problem. And I’ll be damned if you’re local gunsmith who probably hasn’t installed a ton if any of these can do it without marring somewhere on your gun. I was impressed with myself for only marring it 2 times both small but I know I scratched it a shitful of times. Overall the rail looks cool I won’t be returning it simply because I don’t want to uninstall the pain in the ass or even look at it for a while but I definitely won’t be recommending this to anyone. I tried to love it after this install but now I just can’t, unfortunately.

Just got done installing mine on my Henry model x the front tenon was such a pain in the ass but other than that easy install
Any tips on getting it off?
Any reason why the set screws shouldn't be removed first?
Was this cut down and threaded to 16"? Did you shorten mag tube? If so, how short did you go?
Also curious what this length is. Looking to get mine sent to Louthan
I got the install completed but the inner mag tube is much tighter than it should be. Assuming the outer tube got bent a little in the process. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Do you put slight pressure on the barrel with the four set screws or do you leave a gap
After I did this install the rifle wont feed any suggestions? Fed fine before
How can I tell if I have a gen 1 or a gen 2?
Forgive my ignorance, but where did you purchase the green receiver from? Or was that professionally painted? It looks fantastic.
How much sandpaper did you go through to sand down the Ranger Point Tennon? I'm like 10 sheets in and not making any progress getting it to fit better
So on the center tenon did you have to sand the bottom and sides or just the sides to help get it to go in?
I just sand the bottom until it slides in 👍
I installed the Gen 2 Henry Handguard today, I also bought the 5 inch Rhino picatinny rail mount for the rear of the rifle but I can't get the rail to be flush with the first gator mount... any ideas?
I really like they offered two options!
Yeah, it makes great sense for those who want this look/functionality, but still might want to use the loading port on the tube.

Really having a hard time with the front dovetail getting it removed any tips it's won't budge at all
Just use rubber mullet. U gonna need to hit it hard from the left side to the right (assuming you were aiming at the sight). I dont know if this is tapered but most videos are doing it this way. Also, I did it on the floor. Make sure you have something to cover your steel so it won't get scratched.
Will that scope and rings work with a Silencer Co 46 suppressor?
Do you have a video on different butt stocks for these rifles? Thanks.
Hi,
Do you know where I can get that style buttstock or synthetic stock, or the furniture and pic rail for the levertac 92 357 to upgrade my Rossi 92 357 carbine? Thanks
What is the new length of your barrel after the cut down?
Yep. I’ll just take mine to an Armorer. Thanks for this.
Did you put the red dot on straight to rail or used Qd attachment is so which one? Great videos👍🏻
So my gun doesn't have set screw visible for the mag tube, any ideas?
Hello! I have a question I’m hoping you can answer. For the Costa hand guard is it the same install process as this version 2 or is it different? Do you guys have a video on the install uploaded! Thank you.
Is there one I can fit on my rock island 410 lever action
Do they make anything like this for a henry mares leg???
Do you habe to hammer it. Can you use a plastic punch of some type .
How do u get the mag tube out of the model x 44 mag after taking out the screw under the receiver? There is no secondary screw
It’s right here 👍 Henry Pistol Caliber Mag Tube Removal

My Gen 2 didn't come with any mag tube tenon.. , but maybe it's not required for the Smith & Wesson 1854 model? Guess I have nothing holding my magazine tube except the top twist lock.
did you just use a metal file for the chamfering?
Is there a larger lever loop available for this rifle?
I like the 1894 Marlin Cowboy Edition 12 + 1 357 13 + 1 38
Definitely on my list!
Are those Steven Rinella books on the shelf?
@Build Hunt Explore what is the adjustable comb buttstock on this Henry? Where do I find them?
Thanks!!
Hi, what color ceracoting is that? cheers!
When you removed the set screws that hold the mag tube, the outer one of yours is much much longer than mine. Mine is like 2mm long and doesn't touch the inner set screw unless you screw it way down into the hole. Not sure what's up there.
It'll be great if Henry would offer a tactical option like that out of the box
Great video tyvm! Unfortenately english isnt my nativen language. How do you call this grey piece of plastic to hold your gun in place?
Really wish they'd left it the same aside from the loading port but I do appreciate the upgrade in rigidity and strength so I won't complain too much.
I can understand that, but it's definitely more robust 👍
Do you have to do lapping just afraid to oversand it. A lot of peoples comments are worrying me about doing the install myself. Have the Henry model x 44.
How do I taper the tenon on the mag tube. Left that part out . Video plz
Just received the same Henry 357 and I like the butt stock. Where can I purchase that with the adjustable cheek rest?
This is from Form Rifle Stocks. They are based in the UK.
Ranger Point Precision
Costa Henry Pistol Grip Lever Stock Set (Root Beer). I am looking for the handguard with the loading port.
My .44 mag x-model does not have that set screw on the trigger plate. Is that normal for pistol calibers? How does that change the install?
I wonder how the fit is with the gen ll handguard. Ranger Point won't return it if not. I had bad luck with their medium loop that doesn't fit. I'll pass on their handguard going with Midwest Industries .
Mornin Bri
Morning!
How do you take the mag tube tenon off withou bending the mag tube in a .357 x model?
Make a mare's leg with this option.
With a stock that extends..
With a rail for sight options.
I only hunt with a 20- 24 inch barrel.
Is it the same for the 45colt?
They are all the same except the pistol caliber vs rifle caliber. Set screw is under the trigger plate on pistol calibers.
What but stock is that? I want that more then the hand guard.
Where can I find this stock
Great video, well explained thank you ✌️
Definitely interested to see if the tensioning screws/rigidity of the v2 handguard have any affect on accuracy. My stock x model 30-30 likes Federal HammerDown a little more than PowerShok
Super helpful. Ordering the gen2 this week. Do you have a link to the scope?
Thank you so much! Yeah, www.primaryarms.com/hunting-optics
And don't forget to use "WOLF10" at RPP 👍
hey guys, so I'm trying to get the front tenon off using a mallet but I'm having difficulty. Is there a different method for short barrel lever actions? I have a .44mag and cant seem to get the front tenon off no matter how hard I try.
Why are the corners not chamfered from the factory for installation? Why should you have to modify a new product for installation.
Because most rifle manufacturers don't expect most people to do this. This is just the way it goes when you start modifying rifles.
I didn't have to chamfer mine. Was pretty easy. Rotated until parallell and a few taps to get it in...
@@schwifty. I didn’t have to chamfer mine either; but when I put it back together it’s little loose.
Anyone know if the mag tube should just slide out after removing the screw under the receiver? There looks to be no 5/64 secondary screw in there.
There’s a hole in the tube that the set screw slides down into. Once the screw is out (mine was 1/16) it slides right out.
My Big Boy X in 357/38 doesn't have that set screw for the mag tube. I have everything done up to that point but I can't get the mag tube out. Any suggestions?
Never mind, I found one of your other vids. Cheers. th-cam.com/video/4tF8fMUg3OA/w-d-xo.html
Good luck!
Awesome man thank you for the info. Your builds are pretty sweet great job.
I was actually able to install this without removing the mag tube… just took out the front tenon and was able to slide it down and in
Would have been helpful! My mag tube is tight as crap and now i can’t get it back out 😖
Looks like with the stock 30-30 x model you can still use the loading gate with non loading gate cut handguard.
Thanks for the video, what stock is that?
Welcome! It’s a Form Rifle Stock. They are awesome 👍😎
Thank you my man!
Welcome 👍
Where can I get that stock?
Form Rifle Stocks 👍😎
Excellent video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! Lots to come 👍
What are you going to do with the “old” hand guard? 🤙🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
I think I might smell a giveaway in the future... 🤠
Love your videos, keep up the great work. I just inherited an old Winchester 94ae 30-30 that unfortunately wasn't kept up with and I would love to send it to someone to refurb and replace whatever is needed. Didn't know if you had anyone you can recommend? Appreciate any help you can provide
Thank you! Awesome, those are great guns. Check with Louthan Gunworks. He can fix it up for you 👍 Thanks for watching!
@@buildhuntxplore appreciate ya, had a feeling you'd be the guy to ask. Again keep posting awesome videos
Who modified your rifle? I’d like to have one of mine made 16 inches
The butt stock at the beginning with adjustable cheek weld ? Where is that from please ?
Form Rifle Stocks 👍
gen 2.0 install looks like a nightmare. will keep my gen 1
I’ve been banging on the mag tube tenan and it will not come loose….any other options without destroying my gun?!
Did you find an alternative way to do this?
@@winstonwirfs nope…I banged it loose with a couple of hard whacks and without damaging the mag tube and barrel
