Came back for this like 8 or 9 years later. Was not disappointed. Can still hear that nasty stank-swing around the 3 minute mark on repeat! I remember listening to this on the train back in the day and having a hard time not rocking back and forth like a maniac. This is gold
@@elliottwomack6706 Thanks Elliott. Long story, but the saxophone is a saxophone that was made by a company named Arc. They were trying to present a new saxophone called the "Rollins" saxophone. Unfortunately, it never came out. The mouthpiece is a Vandoren V16, which I know longer play.
I love this recording! It is on my Jazz Moments playlist on youtube, so i listen to it fairly often. As always, your sound is fantastic, and I love what Al McLean brings to the table, as well as, the rest of the band.
Mr. Shaw moves constructively as he developes his solo and tailors it into a garden of resplendent beauty - so to say. Al, as usual, always rises to the occasion. The Band does its thing quite admirably.
"Bemsha Swing" (T. Monk) Al McLean - Tenor Saxophone ‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾ Jaleel Shaw - Alto Saxophone Bryn Roberts - Piano | Jason Davis - Bass... and no damn drummer in sight!

Had such a great time recording this! Seems like yesterday!
Jaleel you sounded fantastic what horn and mouthpiece did you use in this video?

Hey Jaleel - You have a great melodic approach to this piece. You never deviated from the melody and each note was on the money!!
An alto sax player here and I am loving that tone on the alto sax!
Good music in bad times!!!!Jazznet Spandau 2012, greetings!!!!!
Mr. Shaw is a great muscian from Philly... keeping that tradition going
I just see Monk dancing in circles and enjoying these talented musicians. Long Live Monk✊🏽💪🏽
Randy Cole, man you the best in delivering great jazz clips. amen to you.
I need to get practising..... Both saxes got some serious badass chops!
The sound quality of this clip is superlative....Chapeau Monsieur Cole!
Al McLean - I dug it. Melody and all. F**k yeah.

A round for Jason Davis / bass and Bryn Roberts / piano. Wonderful.
Accurate , tasty with propulsion. Very Monkish.
Al McLean, saw him first time a few minutes ago in another video playing Impressions. And now this... He CAN PLAY!
a lot of parker's stuff on jaleel's playing... love it!
Man this is soooo nice. Thank you Randy Cole for bringing these clips to us with such style and respect for the music, and musicians.
Just Undiluted Brilliance.

anybody know Jaleel shaws alto brand? only on this tune I meant. It has a resonance I've not heard in any other alto before
Gene Henderson Selmar
Gene Henderson oops... I was wrong...sorry
This is an ARC saxophone, though I'm currently a Selmer Mark 6
@@jaleelshaw you’re on the new Supreme now, or still with the VI? love your playing
💛🙄🌾🌱
Is Al related to Jackie McLean?
Seriously, what are those mics?? Wow
What is the tune at 2:09 ?
Vincenzo Maisano its a bird lick from yardbird suite
is this vincenzo from loreto by any chance?
Cool blues
+Daniel Schnee Cool Blues is the name of the tune it comes from. Check it out man
never mind , found it the "show more" above.
I think ARC is Al McLean's own brand of sax...the guy makes his own horns in addition to playing it so masterfully here...
a lot of kenny garrett licks on his other songs that have come through as youtube videos too
"Bemsha Swing" (T. Monk) Al McLean - Tenor Saxophone

Bad nuuz all the way! (And not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good!)
I might be wrong, but is this “Resolution” (A Love Supreme / John Coltrane) ?
Meguru Takagi You are sooooo wrong, don't you know your classics Meguru ?
I know… but it’s my frank impression.
They are very similar tunes melodically
terrible mix where's the bass
both saxes are out of tune
