People ask why the fence is necessary - the land and property Martjin bought is not commonage and he has planted gardens, has a greenhouse and all the other bits and pieces around his property. We all love the chickens as well. So, he has to enclose his property to keep grazing cattle and other animals out. Established rights of way may also be an issue. The fencing adds to the property and affords protection. Living is the countryside is not all an romantic idyll but is hard work. Marijin and his friends have performed a miracle in a low impact way.
You are right but i guess fences were not common in those mountains simce the grass for the cattle was a shared commodity, martin did the right thing but this is probably the less traditional thing done by him since the beginning of the project, in 2024 it's more understandable....also if the farmer want to use his grass i guess they can ask him (i could be wrong btw)...mountains have no written rules
The first time was the foragers. That prompted the signs to go up notifying of private property. The second was hikers/tourists with an unleashed dog (I think!). The third was a roaming local dog. The cowherds know the grazing lands. Last year, they asked to graze the cows on the lower pasture and did. I don't yet know how much of the perimeter will be fenced, but this stretch and the corner down by the cabins and septic will make the herders' job easier.

The fence really stamps your authority on the mountainside, and your home. But there is another more relevant observation to make - and that's the way community is developed and built upon. The strangers arrive and within a short space of time the team forms. Then, a short while later around the evening fire, real bonds start to be built. It is what we have all missed, been absent from many lives, but will come again become a reality, as from these digital communities they blend into real physical bonding.

Have you considered a roof vent for your greenhouse? The air exchange will allow plants to respirate, and control humidity to prevent fungus from growing on your plants.
He's got cross-ventilation under the roof, it's open on both sides. As he said, the windows open as well. The only time there might be condensation is during winter with the inside and outside temperature being different..
Me too...and I'm sure it will help keep the cows out...but it doesn't look like it would keep the dogs out that were attacking the chickens..they'd just jump over it....

I really like the greenhouse, for a long time it's been a dream of mine to have a glass greenhouse. All the small details make me so happy. The fireflies took me back to when i was 19 and visited Pai in northern Thailand. I was sat by a river, beer in hand watching the fireflies do there thing. Thank you
Building fences and gate. Hoping you're not getting overly friendly curious viewers coming by to see the place for themselves. It does happen. People watch the happenings of the work going on over the years and some get a sense of being part of the process. Personally I love seeing your accomplishments. The sounds of the birds, bugs, chickens, cow bells, wind, etc. It's very soothing. The remoteness. Brings back memories. The mountains where my mom grew up. Used to be pretty remote. You could barely hear any cars coming up the mountain, slowly getting louder. Until they passed and you'd hear them slowly get less as they moved away. Now its practically non stop. Tearing up the road like it's a racetrack. People can be a wonder, a joy. Also people can ruin.

Love to see the chickens. I always count them to make certain they are all there. You are so lucky to hear those beautiful birds singing. The only birds we have where I live are crows and they don’t sing. I thought I heard cowbells, which I love to hear. You are lucky to have so many friends to help you. Your greenhouse is a work of art, but so is everything you touch! Blessings!

Watching the video while having my afternoon coffee, what a perfect timing ☕ The fence is coming together so nicely, I like it how perfectly natural it is and it'll get even better when it ages. I really like the greenhouse, for a long time it's been a dream of mine to have a glass greenhouse. All the small details make me so happy. In today's world everything always needs to happen fast, cheap and corners are cut, but seeing someone doing something with a thought and with no hurry, is so inspiring. So much effort for a fance which has only a symbolic value. It doesn't stop any dog or other animal or even a human from entering the property.
Tbe fencing just adds so much more character to your homestead. I love it. Each section of you build tells a story. I appreciate each individual that you trust to give you a lending hand. I imagine their reward is just being up there in the beauty and awh of your place is a good feeling. Always a pleasure watching the episodes first thing in the moring. Until next week.

The fireflies took me back to when i was 19 and visited Pai in northern Thailand. I was sat by a river, beer in hand watching the fireflies do there thing.

Building fences and gate. Hoping you're not getting overly friendly curious viewers coming by to see the place for themselves. It does happen. People watch the happenings of the work going on over the years and some get a sense of being part of the process.
Personally I love seeing your accomplishments. The sounds of the birds, bugs, chickens, cow bells, wind, etc. It's very soothing. The remoteness. Brings back memories. The mountains where my mom grew up.
Used to be pretty remote. You could barely hear any cars coming up the mountain, slowly getting louder. Until they passed and you'd hear them slowly get less as they moved away. Now its practically non stop. Tearing up the road like it's a racetrack. People can be a wonder, a joy. Also people can ruin.
Was holding breath as you were up there. You're obviously enjoying the bike. That's good thing.

I've recently started re- watching all of the episodes from the beginning. The changes you have accomplished in such a short time are nothing short of amazing. And with very little help too! I also find it interesting that in the early episodes you did now narration, where the more recent episodes sometimes have almost none. I've enjoyed it all so much though. Your positive attitude and peaceful coexistence with the Italian countryside is truly impressive. Thanks again.

I want to be a plant in that greenhouse - beautiful! The fence is perfect aesthetically, fingers crossed that nothing crashes into it. I can't quite make out the conversations at the tabla fresco but your company obviously very much enjoyed their time with you. That electric ride is perfection for exploring your beautiful environment.
