    I always have a feeling Kim Jung Gi is just too good for me to learn anything from what he teaches if that makes sense.
    How should I explain it... Imagine a great martial arts master. He's trying to teach you a new technique but when he shows it to you, you just see him closing in to you and the next thing you know is that you're lying on the ground with no idea what the heck has just happened. It's the same problem here - he's trying to move step by step but his step is larger than the longest of your leaps and he doesn't know how to make smaller ones.

    • @CaptainWumbo
      @CaptainWumbo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Sometimes it's better to learn from people closer to your level, even if they have a lot to learn themselves.
      But also remember even if you don't know what to do with what he says today, you may sleep on it and have more ideas tomorrow, or experience or hear again in a week something you remember him talking about. The more times information is reinforced and applied, the easier it will be to remember and understand. Think back to when you were just a puppy learning math, how abstract and frustrating it was even to do basic arithmetic. Eventually you're exposed to it enough that it starts to make sense.
      His ideas here are not too advanced, but he's employing in this demo much more than he's talking about. Even if you understand what he's saying you can't replicate what he's doing here without more knowledge. So that's why you may feel inadequate.

    • @michaelskywalker3089
      @michaelskywalker3089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I can understand this. I still believe he has an amazing gift despite the enormous amount of hard work and careful technique and approach to drawing he has demonstrated through his explanation and teaching. To expect to acquire his skill at a grade-school learning pace is not realistic for me. However, he does reveal techniques that any drawer or artist can use such as using the eyebrow line to establish a perspective. The value in seeing 'people at perspectives that we do not usually see so it is more natural to visualize them and their elements when creating characters. Also, the compositional tactic of creating a contrast between elements that are more simple and complex mechanisms and elements creating simultaneously a better sense of scale and balance for the viewer.

    • @bakk3731

      from what i see its somewhat different.
      hes just saying some really basic things, the basic thing to consider to draw in 3d. its just these thing is not something you can master overnight despite being the basic of all. giving the illusion of it being some ultra advanced stuff that only the master can understand.

    • @weill6872
      @weill6872 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The difference is in his talent, which means he observed and PRACTICED A LOT from when he was just a little kid. It's normal to feel like you are so far behind him, cause it's the truth. What you see when he draws is all his experience put on paper, the one you (we) don't have. However he keeps on telling right tips, like visualizing subjects in 3D. Not an easy thing to do probably but he learned that in his childhood. Yeah.. and a lot of practice of course. Practice is the first rule for basically everything.

    This video is fantastic for me since it reveals a comparison of methods such as using facial perspective lines that most artists use initially and highlights the value of a continuity of perspective since Kim visualizes as well as uses eyebrow lines as a keystone. This is the method I used to do; visualizing the head/skull for scale and setting the eyebrow line eyes and nose as a perspective keystone. It is also comforting to know that Kim has avoided drawing an element he didn't feel satisfied with, like the hair and could look at many of his past drawings that were either bald or had helmets on. It is a minor negative in technique perhaps, or oversight but is a major positive in terms of the complexity of design of his helmets and the character elements of his bald characters. I always feel like I am cheating when I turn fists into boxing gloves or hide hands behind a character's back, but I retain confidence that I will gain the skill eventually.

    • @devictor9486
      @devictor9486 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Basically...try to imagine *everything* before you even touch the tip of your pen on the paper. Try to see in your mind certain things, such as specific details that you want on the character(personality, if something like an object will be on his design and so on) and then try to break it to shapes, then add detail to the shapes, and then finally, start drawing. Don't try to make a piece of art on the first try, don't use the whole paper for one thing...fill the page with things that you think might look nice, then no another page, mash it up to the final, or close to final, design

    Please don't get me wrong either but I really want to learn from Kazone Art. And i almost bought the course on there for like 250 dollars. But the thing that stops me is that there are no subtitles in these videos. The english audio dub is just unclear because two people are talking at the same time. It is not comfortable to listen to. You have to keep having your ears peaked.
