You guys should have focused more on the LOCALS. They're the ones who are truly devastated and have lost the most. The opportunities that this young man had to start over or to reclaim some of his lost,is out of reach for them.
If Kendal Kardashian gave them her $250,000. For her simple Instagram promo. ALL WOULD BE RIGHT IN MY WORLD wouldn't hurt if JaRule accepted sone accountability as well ...I 🖤
He’s so positive after the situation - even after being scammed, he remains positive and jokes about it. Needless to say, I think I need to be more like this guy.
Agreed. Even though he was owed 20 grand, he had enough funds to ship several very large masks back home. If I was owed 20 grand, I wouldn't have eaten in months or I would have racked up amazing levels of debt.
I was thinking the same thing. Someone scammed me out of $400 once and I'm still mad about that. This guy lost $24,000; I think my issue is small things in retrospect!
Daniel Green you will find a nice amount of people like this in New York City. They claim to be broke or “ struggling” but shop everyday at Starbucks and Whole Foods. Then on top of that live in a very expensive area.
2:16 holy shit, dropping acid in a place you're not familiar with, being dumped in a refugee camp, sensing the negative emotions of everyone realizing the festival is a bust, and seeing someone wearing these masks would be TERRIFYING
That actually sounds like the opening to an awesome story. "I was convinced based on the circumstances that I had been bilked, but just then a twinkle caught my eye. I realized the acid was hitting, and decided to introduce myself to other bilkees..."
Dana Baldus dancakes is a clever play on words, not a lazy ass millennial misspelling. Brands like Twitter and Lyft are simply misspells of existing words, so that they can secure a short domain name.
I would love to see a story on the locals who were affected by this trash ass festival. The most important account of the event would come from the people who live on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma who worked to put this festival together. Vice needs to do a video on them.
They probably greatly benefited economically. All they have is tourism, and this was tourism. Otherwise, the island has no meaningful economy whatsoever, they produce nothing besides a trivial amount of food (too little to export). The Sandal's resort was completely booked and other resorts were at the same time; the whole island was booked and refugees from Fyre had nowhere to go. This means the whole island was raking in those sweet, sweet tourist dollars. Without these tourists, the Exuma natives would be utterly impoverished. Thank god for tourists. This and many other island nations would be nothing without them, just impoverished, desperate backwaters.
As a Bahamian I'd love to see that also! I just was so worried that this debacle would give the country a bad image given how so many people unfortunately lost their money.
Farts McGee yeah, they probably made some money on it but probably a lot less compared to what was promised. Fyre festival never paid them to use the area, resources, etc. Plus the festival goers probably caused some damage; the guy in the video even said he attempted to steal a van. He probably wasn't the only person there who caused trouble for the locals in order to benefit themselves. So yeah, they probably made some money but at what cost?
Farts: I grew up in a tourist trap. We had 3-5 festivals every tourist season. I didn't see a single penny of these "sweet tourist dollars". A festival hiring locals and then not paying them what they owe is never beneficial for the ones who didn't get paid. Even if it brings in 10 times the number of tourists than before, it still won't mean jack squat for the ones who are owed honest pay for honest work.
Never go to the first outing of anything like this. They’re still working out the kinks and even in the best of circumstances, there will be hiccups. Lesson #2: Never drop any acid before you get familiar with your surroundings. You need a safe(ish) space to trip.
tripping is a serious thing, weird shit always happens its why its imperative that you need to trip somewhere that wont pose any threat to your consciousness because you can and will go on time tangents
Dark Days would you rather they spend the money on gold or silver and store it away? At least with the festival that money is getting spread out to other people.
I'm willing to bet that a very large majority, if not all, of the people saying the masks suck have never made anything in their life. I used to criticize stuff that LOOKED easy too. Used to
The fact he's using material they use specially for cancer patients, shows he's really dedicated to how WELL a mask should mold to It's wearer and how COMFORTABLE it should feel for longtime wear. Any "cheapo" mask would feel so uncomfortable and malfitting it'd be off in the first 5 minutes.

I hope this guy is ultimately alright. He seems really positive and nice about the whole situation, and he kept things in perspective too. I feel like that’s kind of rare.
I am so glad that this wonderful artist got a chance for some exposure after the nightmare of Fyre Festival. His designs and creations are nothing short of amazing!
Thankful for the documentary on Netflix, a go fund me page is up for the workers who weren’t paid. Hopefully with that money they can get a fresh start.
There were lots of signs it was going to be a disaster. I commented on promotions where I could and got screamed at relentlessly for even the thought it might not be legit. It sucks, but you played yourself at some level.
I have friends that work festivals, and it's always a shame when this sort of thing happens. Because no, it wasn't just spoiled rich kids getting ripped off. Working class folks depend on these things too.
This guy gets it. Artists, especially full-time ones, seem especially vulnerable to scams like these, due to the nature of their paychecks. But, if he says there were NO signs anything was amiss even up until he left, I doubt he did his homework on the organizers. Here's a good vid on it th-cam.com/video/UBPg5ftCMv8/w-d-xo.html
Not to mention the ticket starting prices were only *500* dollars. A 500 dollar trip to the bahamas where everything is paid for is the most shadiest thing to ever exist
Fun fact: Rich kids weren't just being scammed, don't tease them. There has been no proof of a 250,000 ticket ever being made or sold. Tickets werent sold for 12,000, they were being sold at 1,200 (Which, if you think about it, a 2 week vacation in the bahamas with all of your expenses paid is an amazing deal.) (In fact, some tickets had a starting price of *500* dollars )
Anyone who thinks $1200 for ONE WEEK in Bahamas will get them anything other than a cheese sandwich and a wet tent...has basically no life experience. Maybe it will be a good reality check for people who do their research based on what some person said on Twitter who was famous for just being famous. i.e. a lot of millennials. Any adult would know from this price and by doing actual research that they were being scammed or something was seriously wrong.
Insurance, liability, and attorneys are vital for anything. Drill it into your heads, SCAMMERS ARE OUT THERE AND THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOU. The sooner you understand that uncertainty is more expensive than insurance, the faster you’ll become a responsible reliable adult.
Not one mention of the drug use in the Netflix video. Those people who attended where eating acid and molly like it was going out of style. Let’s have someone tell the truth for once about these festivals. They are drug frenzies. Period.
To be fair that happens to an extent at almost all concerts/festivals, especially if they're catered towards young people. Everyone knows that and we don't need an expose. A festival that scams people out of a lot of money and delivers basically nothing does deserve a lot of attention though
This is what it looks like to not be a victim and show true American fortitude ! I hope the best for them and their future endeavors! Keep fighting grinding and doing what you love
First I find out the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny and now Ja Rule is throwing fake parties?!?! What's next? Am I going to find out that Ja Rule isn't a real gangster?
Davivd2 😔 I’m sorry to break it to you but I’m sure even I’m more gangster than Ja Rule. I’m sorry but it’s time to grow up buddy. The world isn’t what “they” told you.
Does Daryl have an Instagram?? He seems like a super talented guy and I definitely want to support him, especially after hearing this. Great video, by the way! Fyre Festival is such an interesting event to analyze and pick apart how horribly it went wrong
This guy worked on these gorgeous masks for over 2 months. That's 2 months longer than the organizers of the Fyre Festival actually worked on organizing the Festival.
I think he was referring to himself, as a white man, feeling that his desperation warranted him being able to just steal someone's van in a place not inhabited by white people.
These guys received a very valuable lesson in business. Deposits are needed and never trust an out of country venue. Also, don't drop your acid until you are settled into your lodging accommodation.
Dude that works for Fyre Media - "We flat out lied to the public about what we were giving them. That's Fraud." Ja Rule - "That's not fraud. That's not fraud. That's I would call that false advertising." Me watching the documentary - 😂😂😂😂😂
This is a boohoo story sure but the true and unfortunate story is that jobs in the Performing Arts is gonna be a risky business its not a necessity like food and water
These millennial's are pathetically self-absorbed, hangers-on to anyone that is an "influencer". Why does everyone their age have to be a "brand"? I won't cry one tear for these vapid, phone-addicted robots. Also, Billy and Ja Rule need to share the same cell as Bernie Madoff! The only sympathy I have is for the locals that didn't get paid.
You guys should have focused more on the LOCALS. They're the ones who are truly devastated and have lost the most. The opportunities that this young man had to start over or to reclaim some of his lost,is out of reach for them.
I agree. Kimberly Foster at For Harriet did a review on both the documentaries and she devoted time to talkin about the locals.
If Kendal Kardashian gave them her $250,000. For her simple Instagram promo.

Having Tea With the Devil almost said the same 😛

Not to mention the ticket starting prices were only *500* dollars. A 500 dollar trip to the bahamas where everything is paid for is the most shadiest thing to ever exist
Fun fact:
Rich kids weren't just being scammed, don't tease them.
There has been no proof of a 250,000 ticket ever being made or sold.
Tickets werent sold for 12,000, they were being sold at 1,200 (Which, if you think about it, a 2 week vacation in the bahamas with all of your expenses paid is an amazing deal.)
(In fact, some tickets had a starting price of *500* dollars )
Anyone who thinks $1200 for ONE WEEK in Bahamas will get them anything other than a cheese sandwich and a wet tent...has basically no life experience. Maybe it will be a good reality check for people who do their research based on what some person said on Twitter who was famous for just being famous. i.e. a lot of millennials. Any adult would know from this price and by doing actual research that they were being scammed or something was seriously wrong.
@@scottw9318 Okay, but when the majority of the people organizing the event are being held in the dark, research doesn't mean shit.
i hate myself for clicking in this
His talent is immense. These are works of
art man, beautiful.
Those head pieces are fabulous,beautiful.
I think this guy will be fine with vice's promotion of his work as that shit is dope

"I Literally tried to break in and *Steal* a van"
Dude, you were never ever close to 'literally stealing a van'
Cool masks man
I cannot think of a group of people who deserve to be scammed more.
His masks are amazing!
This guy is nice. Screw the rich kids who were scammed.
Expected more coverage on the locals??? Idk. Just me?
This dude is lucky he didn't get money from the scam festival but he earned recognition for his talent
Yeah at least he got enough gigs to cover what he lost
I like how he takes this opportunity to point out the locals who were affected as well.
That guy has talent!
Not one mention of the drug use in the Netflix video.
Those people who attended where eating acid and molly like it was going out of style.
Let’s have someone tell the truth for once about these festivals.
They are drug frenzies. Period.
Gcal1956 Maybe cause the documentary was focused more on the scam part, not the people who attended.
To be fair that happens to an extent at almost all concerts/festivals, especially if they're catered towards young people. Everyone knows that and we don't need an expose. A festival that scams people out of a lot of money and delivers basically nothing does deserve a lot of attention though
This guy makes amazing masks. Sad that MacFarlane was able to scam so many people and to endanger them.
This is what it looks like to not be a victim and show true American fortitude ! I hope the best for them and their future endeavors! Keep fighting grinding and doing what you love
This is a damn shame. Those masks are simply beautiful and he has my best hopes and wishes for success. He damn well deserves it. Excellent work!
Internet Historian did a better job imo. I appreciate the unique perspective offered though
This isn't about the fire festival, this is a bout a specific part of the story, not the whole thing.
Those masks are amazing. I don't think he's going to have any trouble recovering from this.
"dude I need some food, I need some food!"
My only question is: is Darrell single? Jokes aside he seems to be a nice person and very talented. Fortunately he got his costumes back.
i dont but why people like to feel happy seeing others distraught in pain. Schadenfreude

Sheena Bailey Sarcasm.
Does Daryl have an Instagram?? He seems like a super talented guy and I definitely want to support him, especially after hearing this. Great video, by the way! Fyre Festival is such an interesting event to analyze and pick apart how horribly it went wrong
Ja Rulag
Ol Ponzi Scheme Ja
This guy worked on these gorgeous masks for over 2 months. That's 2 months longer than the organizers of the Fyre Festival actually worked on organizing the Festival.
Those costume pieces are STUNNING and Oscar worthy!!! Even pre-disastrous Fyre Festival didn't deserve this guy.
Who do I hate more, scam-artists or Hipsters? Scam artists...hipsters....scam-artists....hipsters.....hmmmmmm. Tough one.
Yeah... one's an rip-off artist with no value to society.... the other's a scammer!
Ha ha.... awesome!
I was just about to say, why hate hipsters? Then I thought about it for three seconds....
Three seconds of that guy's voice is enough...
Is that Sexy Vegan before the face tat?
yoooooooooooooooo
Beautiful Vegan Messiah
is stealing a van in the Bahamas racism? lol
O. B! I think he's saying he wouldve treated the property of a predominantly white country differently like if the fest was in Canada...
I think he was referring to himself, as a white man, feeling that his desperation warranted him being able to just steal someone's van in a place not inhabited by white people.
If I really wanted to steal a van it would not matter where i was
Nah, but he’s still being an ass I guess.
Everyone who has stolen is an ass, Still does not matter if you steal from a black guy or a white guy
These guys received a very valuable lesson in business. Deposits are needed and never trust an out of country venue. Also, don't drop your acid until you are settled into your lodging accommodation.
Dude that works for Fyre Media - "We flat out lied to the public about what we were giving them. That's Fraud."
Ja Rule - "That's not fraud. That's not fraud. That's I would call that false advertising."
Me watching the documentary - 😂😂😂😂😂
This reminds me of the Tonga 2000 festival. The huge global telecast music festival in Tonga to kick of the new millennium. Same shit
Internet Historian!!!
BITCONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECT
OF FESTIVALS 😂😂😂😂
I'm glad to see that even after the whole Fyre Festival disaster, he kept his head up and maintained his focus on his craft. Bravo!
I'm more impressed by how they even managed to set up a scam of this size without paying people in advance.
COOL MASKS 👍
Where is ja ? to make sense to all of this. ja!
He's black. He's automatically has his victim card.
This is a boohoo story sure but the true and unfortunate story is that jobs in the Performing Arts is gonna be a risky business its not a necessity like food and water
Anyone else come from watching this on Netflix?
Can VICE please rename this video "Whiny Rich Kids Complain About a Minor Inconvenience"?
They worked for 2 months for nothing
INTERNET HISTORIAN MADE AN AWESOME VID ON THIS... TOP KEK!!!
of course ja rule couldnt make any good music so he had to steal money from people. LOL
Ja Rule should also take the hit for this. He seems to have gotten away Scot-free whereas he was just as much to blame.
This does not seem accurate. I heard that many of the tickets were sold for only $500 a person... NOT thousands of dollars.
