1st December 1973 was the last time I was in the Dun Cow. I was having a pre-wedding bottle of brown ale with my mates and my sisters husband whilst waiting for my bride to turn up. As soon as we saw the bridesmaids turn up at Bishopwearmouth Church, we necked our drinks and dashed across the road to the church. Happy days!
What, no mention of the first floor bar, where I had my stag night? I think this was closed last time I was in in the 90's. My one memory of the DC is sitting in the back room with my mates when a guy came in the side door and said "Can you mind your drinks, there, lads?" and then grabbed the (ornamental) table , stuck it in a taxi and drove off. I assume it now resides in some scruffy student bedsit.
@@smartin469 the original building was called The Peacock from 1770 and renamed The Londonderry in 1834. The current grade II listed building dates from 1901 and renamed back to the Peacock in 2017. There is a Sunderland Historic Buildings blue plaque on the wall of the pub.
