I loved going to Harvey's qfter Annabels. I remember The Lotus Garden Chinese, too. My mam said it was the first one in Sunderland. She used to go in with her friend and both of them had their babies with them. Later, she took us to The Melting Pot next to Sgt Peppers. I can still taste the mulligatawny soup and chicken biryani. Happy days!

I remember the Saturday matinee at the ABC and eating willicks with a pin. My dad used to tell me all of the things he could buy with sixpence - a comic, sweets, pictures etc. My nana loved going to bingo at the Cora in the 70s and early 80s.

Wow, what a history Sunderland has. Just brilliant! I'm nearly 60 and trained as a nurse at Sunderland General Hospital and Ryhope General Hospital. My dad, Gordon Hedley, started mining engineering at Wearmouth Colliery but went off to do his national service for 5 years with the RAF. He returned with my mam and went on to be a manager at JAJ/ Pyrex/ Corning. His father and grandfather had worked in the colliery too, and they lived close by. His other grandfather was a merchant seaman (like his father and grandfather before him) and lived in North Dock Cottage in Roker when older. One of my earliest memories is celebrating the 1973 FA cup win and going to Notriannis for a Knickerbocker Glory with my nana from Lichfield Rd Southwick. Happy days :)

The bad old days. Crime rocketing, de-industrialisation continuing as planned. Spotted some of the long gone shops...but in honesty weve turned a corner and the recent redevelopment of Sunderland with new bridges, commercial buildings et al is to be welcomed. Dont live in the past.

My passion is cinema. I make films and love going to see films. My first job leaving school was Trainee Projectionist at the ABC 1 and 2 which is now The Point on the corner of Holmeside seen in this video. At home I had a Super 8 but I ran the 35 mill projectors in the cinema. I loved the job and got paid to for doing it. Happy days. I'm enjoying going to the new Omniplex multiplex which used to be the Empire Cinema next to the bowling alley.

Another great video. Anywhere in the North East I am fascinated by . I'm proud of where I live. I go to Sunderland, Newcastle, Durham, South Shields a lot. I was born in South Shields so love going there and just walking along the beach and paddling in the sea wearing my speedos swimbriefs.

I love The Empire Theatre Sunderland. I've seen loads of musicals there over the years. I've been going for years now. I was given a guided tour of the Theatre. We were shown every part of the Theatre and were able to get on the stage to get a feel what it's like for a performer to look at the stalls. I always buy a ticket for the stalls. This lady was our tour guide. She showed us a book that was available about the history of the Theatre. It is a fascinating read. Recently I saw a you tube video of Bobby Thompson performing on stage at the Empire Theatre. This video is a brilliant watch.

I remember the Star , notices inside in Norwegian , had a great aunt living in Reynolndson St , nobody ever seems to mention the Caxton next door to the Picture House, Pollys across the road from the Caledonia , pollys proper name the Theatre Tavern, in Bedford St was the Garricks Head, opposite the Argo was , I believe ,the Turf , then turn left to Bridge St on the corner the Bells . Exhibition was 1 & 6 pence upstairs on the Paark Inn in the late 50s prior to heading into yhe Rink . Happy daze , or dazed after yhe Ex .

Respect Paul for doing this in the winter! It's great when the memorials tell us a bit more about the person, but that would require money. I'm going to look up the zeppelin story. An old man in Hartlepool once told me he was born the day a zeppelin hit the town.

What a fascinating story! In amongst the grime, sweat & sheer hard physical work (and ever-present danger) of old-fashioned dockyards with the indescribable din of hammering, riveting and the general crashing and banging of heavy materials being moved around. All set to a background of bombing & air-raids by the Luftwaffe. What amazing times those were!
