    In this episode I'm building a Mid Century Modern Dresser. This is the most thought that I've ever put into a woodworking project. Probably because it is the first set of woodworking plans that I have ever produced, so I wanted to make sure that every little detail was considered before settling on a final design. In the end, I am very proud of the piece, and equally thrilled with how many woodworking concepts and techniques we were able to cover with this build.

    Love the dresser and the channel in general! I also love this addition of plans/courses and your focus on teaching general skills in the plans.
    I'm thinking about making this piece but was wondering how long you think it would take someone to make it? I'm sure the real answer is "it depends", but I'd appreciate if you could give a range or ballpark estimate.
    If it matters, I have a small space, most of the right tools but entry level (e.g. a small countertop table saw), and most importantly, I'd be a solid "beginner" to "advanced beginner" at best.
    Also: could I start with pre-milled lumber? I don't have a jointer or planer.

    • @Foureyes.Furniture
      @Foureyes.Furniture  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Andrew...you're absolutely right about the real answer being "it depends" I would say the range would be 25 hours to 100 hours. That being an expert craftsman who is simply duplicating this build, to somebody more like you that will probably watch the videos multiple times, be learning new concepts along the way, and just generally taking a bit longer on each step.
      As for pre-milled....yes you can. Or even plywood for all, or certain parts.

    Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs th-cam.com/users/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

    For me, the detail of the door and drawer fronts sitting back from the main case is brilliant! I would not have done that by choice but after seeing it , it adds a great dimensionality to the face of the piece. Great work and best of luck with the plans.

    Absolutely love it. I was at a friends house recently installing a HEPA air filter and noticed the beautiful cherry wood bedroom furniture is a matching MCM set. I asked about it and it's a 1950's original. I had to move the tall dresser a little and it weighed a ton. No idea of the maker but I'm definitely going to find out. The design is fairly similar structurally to yours here. The drawer pulls extend access the full length of the drawers in all 3 pieces. I already told them I'd they ever decide to update their furniture I definitely want to chance to get it from them.

Like, bringing svg into fusion360 and then trying to rescale or resize some pieces is a nightmare. Don't get me wrong, really appreciate availability of digital file that's not just a PDFs of shapes. Sketch up has its draw backs for everyone, except those who can afford a license. Fusion 360 is free for hobby license. Get the 2nd to last pair you tried on. All of em looked good though . Nice video. I have a question about that solid wood slab door. Are you concerned about the door cupping over time? I was planning something similar and figured it was better to use ply for the door instead of solid wood, because the ply is more stable. Any feedback you could provide would be appreciated.

    • @Foureyes.Furniture
      @Foureyes.Furniture  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brad. So from an objective point of view, it's more stable this way since wood tends to move across width, so a wide piece (across the grain) is going to potentially contract/expand/cup more. Subjectively...99 times out of 100 I think grain looks better running across the longer dimension of a panel.
      You could make a case for the making one large panel to yield the drawer fronts and the door, for more consistent grain. For overlay drawers maybe that would be an even stronger case to make. But I just prefer it this way.

    Hi, I’ve been a very long time subscriber and without trying to be hurtful can sometimes find some videos a little self involved but I enjoyed this video hugely. It made me realise why I subscribed in the first place. It’s very clear the quality and skill of your furniture making has continued to improve over the years. These units are probably the finest thing you have made and my personal favourite, though I prefer the square version - which is lucky as it’s probably the one best suited to my ability. It’s clear you’ve gone above and beyond in the making of the guides and the presentation got me excited to have a go myself. I got to the end thinking that I would treat myself or that it would be an ideal candidate to go on my birthday wish list as that’s the sort of thing my mum or girlfriend would enjoy getting me, but the price point excludes either. I’m sure it’s a very fair price, this would be my first such guide, I say again the quality is clearly exceptional and the amount of effort put in is impressive. This isn’t meant to come across as a moan, just as feedback from someone who this product appeals to. At half the price I’d probably buy it as a motivator to step up my woodwork but at $100 bucks it seems like commitment.
    The cabinet is beautiful and the music complimented the video particularly well. Cheers

    Thanks. I really dig the vids. I appreciate that you show these being done with a quality hardwood, but as with most of my projects I’ll probably make it from off-the-rack SYP and SPF dimensional lumber. But, cheers all the same!

    What a beautiful modern looking piece of bedroom furniture. The wood choice, spot on for the overall look. I love the way you cut your drawer faces from a joined larger piece. Nice extra step to better match the grain. I can see that applying to many applications.
    I learned something today when you cut the double tapper legs. Thanks!
    Finally, the off set routered edge on the support frame, while such a small design detail, added a dimensional difference that is pleasant to the eye.

    Really nice piece of Furniture and is quite interesting that you created extra content where you explain each step properly! I'm starting now to try to create my own furniture for my new house. In the paid plans you are using only inches or too cm/mm?

      The videos are in inches, and the design is based off of inches, but we include Imperial and Metric versions of the drawings.

    Love the nostalgic foureyes video vibe!
    Does the cabinet door need to have some kind of stop? Do the Blum door hinges have something built in that prevents the door from closing into the cabinet?

    hey, Chris. I've noticed that sometimes u leave the wood next to cut place before you move it, isn't that cause burn on the wood?
    how do you manage not to get any burns in the wood during all the steps and cuts?!
