Not disagreeing with mainman but im wondering, when he says steven b1 is the best counter hit high in the game... what makes it better than 11frame magic 4's? like julia's or I think law has 11f 4?
Steve b1b is basically homing. You can SWL with some character in some rare instances. Whereas most magic4s are linear. Also I think it has a bit more range than magic4s. As well as better whiff recovery and has a super easy conversion combo while most other magic4s may require dash jab. Then if you do b1b he goes into flicker stance at like -2 on block. So you don't lose your turn. Steve can use his weaves, flk b2? powercrush and shit to avoid retaliation. Steve also has extension from b1 too. Whereas Julia's magic4 is -12 on block but has 441 which will CH launch punish attempts into like an 81+ dmg combo. Law and most other characters magic4 is like -7 or worse on block limiting their defensive options.
Steve's b1 is actually steppable to the left IIRC, but it isn't easy. The main thing that makes it really good is the hitbox. The idea with b1 isn't actually to play the frames like you normally would with a magic 4 - which is kind of the thing that makes Steve an unintuitive character. i11 is a magic number for CHs because of the general rules associated with df1s and jabs in Tekken. Standard df1s in Tekken are -1 on block. Jabs are i10 and the fastest mids are generally i13. So, if you df1 on block into i11 magic 4, you will CH a mid retaliation but lose to a jab. But a jab can be beaten through stepping, ducking or high crushing. Hence, the basic mind-game that characters like Lee, Kazumi, Shaheen etc use is to df1 and then force their opponent to guess. Steve can't do any of that because b1 loses to an i13 mid retaliation if he's at -1. However, the hitbox on b1 is gigantic, which makes it an incredible keep-out tool (which you can spam at range due to FLK canceling). Steve is considered favoured against Mishimas for this reason. EWGF itself has a huge hitbox but will often just straight-up lose to b1 in neutral. Furthermore, because the hitbox for b1 stretches so far downwards, it beats out a lot of "evasive" stuff that doesn't have true high crush properties, which eliminates a weakness of other characters' b1s (e.g. Miguel and King's) which are faster, but have extremely high and linear hitboxes. tl;dr Steve's b1 is a keep-out tool, not a frame trap tool.

Try to find holes in his offence, Steve is not actually at any true advantage during his offence and relies on mind games and reads to be aggressive. You can use this to your advantage and use various moves to defend, like homing mids against weaving, fast highs to counter hit if he's just pressing, or be patience and space him out and keep out, and one thing, never try to be overly aggressive and press without any reason, you'll get ch for sure. Use high crush options since most of his offence starts with highs
This is not that hard.. Took me only one week to make this staple when I was in yellow ranks. It is more about doing right input, not being precise + fast (like DJin's EWGF EWGF ff4)
I just faced a Steve at low silver (I’m kinda new) and he just kept spamming the same punch over and over, I think it’s a flicker cancel. I know it’s 1 punch since it’s his right arm that punches, but can’t find the specific move and conditions. I managed to beat this spammer and I’ve never seen someone so mad that I beat them. Guy went into my DMs and translated from French to English just to complain about ME Spamming. It was hilariously pathetic. I think he was mad I used Jin’s F4 a lot, and I honestly didn’t even use it that much for a Jin, 3 maybe 4 max a round. But he uses the exact same punch 8 times in a row for a free combo and he isn’t spamming. The only way to counter the spam if you block the first one (it’s way too fast to dodge on reaction) due to reset time in block is to crouch but then he can do his only mix up with is a mid uppercut. So it’s basically a free hit when spams that move, so he would turtle till he found an opening and then spam for the free hit.
