Especially enemies- if enemies weren't blobs and maybe theives/ bandits, or even goblins/trolls i can guarantee there would be more people trying it out
This is my favorite jrpg of all time , when I first bought it back in 2005 I was one of those suckers who did it for the demo of ffxii, the ironic thing is that now I love the dragon quests games a lot more than I do the final fantasy games . This game is an absolute masterpiece in every way shape and form. Everyone should play this game lol
Bought this game today. When I my 2DS xl in the mail either tomorrow or Wednesday this will be the first game I play. I can not be more excited :D :D :D
Awesome review again...I think that the alchemy pot changes and no random encounters make it much more suitable for portable play. I also prefer Jessica's original voice actress, perhaps she is now too old to reprise her role.
I know this comment is old, but GOD her original VA was so much better. really the only other thing that bothered me in the remake was the boring menu system. the original DQ 8 had such an awesomly designed menu and every item had a unique sprite that was seen in the inventory. These sprites are still in the game as they are shown when you, say, get an item out of a treasure chest, so I don't understand why they stripped down the menu and inventory so much despite the assets still being in the game. it made the game so much more charming.
Dude I just purchased this game a couple of minutes ago for $ 36.36 Dollars, your video made me decide to get it, have seen that the prices at eBay starts at 44 buck plus shipping, guess it gonna became more rare and expensive since the 3DS time is ending.
I loved this about 15 years ago when it came out (the original version). I don't have a DS or a Nintendo console, so I'm stuck with mobile versions and DQVIII on PS2 and DQXI on PS4... which isn't exactly bad ;-)
This was the first DQ game I've played and I love it. Except I hate it when in fights where enemies flee and you won't get the full exp. from that fight.
I loved the game on PS2 and bought this version last summer on impulse but barely played it due to my general dislike for handheld gaming. I'll be first in line to buy this if it ever becomes a PS2-on-PS4 title.
Well, now we know. It never happened lol (never became a PS2-on-PS4 title). But for Dragon Quest's 35th anniversary next year, a multitude of announcements will be made. So anything's possible! Zenithian Trilogy remaster for Switch/PS4? Maybe! Dragon Quest IX remaster? Could be! Offline version of Dragon Quest X? Possible! Dragon Quest VIII ported/remastered for Switch/PS4? Unlikely imo, but sure, it could happen.
@@bigrathole I still like VIII more, but I fully admit that this is in large part due to nostalgia reasons. Trying to be as objective as I can, I would say XI is the better game.
@@TheMike0088 thanks for taking the time to come back to an internet rando on this haha. XI has made me a new convert of the series. Just started digging into VIII and so far so good.
Never player It that much on the original PS2, since, perhaps because of my disk reader, the tranaitions between menus was so laggy... Tried it a cuple of times on emulator, but them my pc got fucked up and i Just abandoned since i lost my save file. Finally, i can enjoy It flawlessly on my 3DS. Greatest rpg i've played since Witcher 3.
Look at em nowadays! I just bought a cartridge for 100. The other DS releases are around there, except for DQV which is reaalll expensive. ... I'm probably still gonna complete my collection of the DS Dragon Quests regardless
I luv ever dragon quest game I wonder if this games going to be downloadable or for sale digitally on the switch in the Nintendo switch cause I love playing it on my tablet n PlayStation stystems
Is no random encounters really a good thing in this game? It was a flat out awful thing in the DQ7 remake. Enemies would spawn on the map *right* in front of you, *just* after you had finished a previous battle. The game was relentless with this, making for an encounter rate that was just as bad as Skies of Arcadia's.
It's significantly improved here. In 7, there were a lot of areas where you couldn't really get away, here you can bypass the whole game without fighting. Doing so will put you at a huge disadvantage though.
Randomness would have been preferred! There was none to be found. For the record, I don't want to be able to "get away," I just want to be able to exit out of one battle without another popping up immediately. Glad to hear 8 is better.
michaeloffgrid Random Encounters are the same except the enemy is invisible. They still have a hit box moving around that triggers a battle when you touch them
Took me 49 hours to beat this. Did not enjoy it as much as 7 or 8 on the ps2. Was way too underpowered because of the no random encounters. I think games that were originally created with random encounters don't work as well without them.
The problem with dq 8 is that it's so easy to avoid the encounters. In 7, it was next to impossible. Took me almost 80 hours to beat 7 and it went by way quicker then 8 for some reason.
could of taken a visit to slime hill and grinded for like an hour. Still works better than not being able to walk for 5 seconds without getting into a battle
there is no reason on this earth you should have been underpowered because battles happen twice as fast and you can hunt for metal slimes so much faster.
I want to be a lot meaner about this, but I decided to erase that comment and just say that next time you should not include a massive fucking spoiler in the form of you showing off that you can beat one of the most important bosses of the game and then not even cutting the damn video before the following dialogue began.
Just a suggestion, make ur review shorter & maybe talk a bit faster. And that whole battle @ end are kinda turn-off to me. I rather watch let’s play streams for such things. Just learn only to highlight features that’s to the point with reviewing stuff.
Dragon Quest is such an underrated series.
Yes, it most certainly is :(
It's only underrated because they choose to make their characters look dumb af.
Especially enemies- if enemies weren't blobs and maybe theives/ bandits, or even goblins/trolls i can guarantee there would be more people trying it out
It's my favorite. I own them all except for the 1st.
Only in the west

I hope you enjoy! Welcome to the DQ family.
I’m 30-some hours into dq8 on ps2 and just bought a copy of the 3ds version because I couldn’t imagine not wanting to replay this game on a handheld 🥳
I had so much fun with this game. It really is a great one.
Awesome review again...I think that the alchemy pot changes and no random encounters make it much more suitable for portable play. I also prefer Jessica's original voice actress, perhaps she is now too old to reprise her role.
I believe she retired.

That's a staple of the series, in particular with the Metal Slimes ;)

That would be great if they did that. The 3DS version is excellent thought, just FYI.

as of now, this is my 3rd favorite game and my favorite turn-based RPG. Curious to see wheter DQ XI will take that place once we get the localization.
I'm curious to see that as well ;)
revisting your ancient comment to see how it places now that XI is well and truly out

VIII is an absolute classic. This remastered version is top notch.
I really wish this game isn't so expensive used. I cannot find anything under 40 bucks on ebay
Worth the money

Great video once again. Fuck that daily DLC though. All these cool items that I wasn't able to get because I didn't play early enough?

I never had that issue in either games.

I guess thats why i never saw it as a problem in 7, as a little bit of randomness is a really good thing to have.
Randomness would have been preferred! There was none to be found.

You beat those trials! Bravo!
What the fuck dude, why would you put the end fucking scene in your review? Like really?
oh my god did i power level in this game. Hade omniheal before i faced Dhoulmagus
LOL!

7 just is a longer game too.

For me it has the opposite effect. Since i can see the encounters i actuallu want to fight the monsters because i can leave at any point.
The super secret, super hard bonus boss really isn't that hard. Just spam Snooze. He's surprisingly vulnerable to it.
Seriously dude, it's a good video and all but put some kind of warning please.
I was utterly shhhhhhhhhocked

Ah when i saw the free open roam i was happy. But the battles are turn based.. Wish it was hack and slash
IMO it’s the worst in the series, it’s hard to get into compared to other games in the series.
