- Just the basics! Why freezer paper is the perfect medium for foundation piecing and how to successfully use this technique. This video is intended to be used in conjunction with the variety of design classes that I offer.

I'm glad I found your video. I didn't think I would find what I was looking for. I'm a newbie, and it scared me. But here you are. Showing me exactly what I was looking for. I've strip quilted using scrap printer paper, and then I heard about using freezer paper, but everyone had their patterns printed right on the paper but didn't sew the fabric onto the paper. And thank you for the for-warning about not touching the waxie side of the freezer paper with the iron. I agree. I hare cleaning my iron. You also made a good point about buying a cheaper iron. I've seen those fancy ones that elevate so that they don't sit flat on the ironing mat when not in use and I was considering buying one. Guess I don't really need to if that's all I want it for. I did buy a tiny iron so I don't have to drag my big ironing board out to iron on (more room to buy and place fabric) and when I try to use the steam on it it just spits water out all over my fabric, and like you I hate that. I also liked your idea of using smaller stitches when sewing. Looks like it makes ripping the paper off much easier. I have a few pieces of paper left on the backs of my fabrics that I wasn't able to rip off completely. No biggie.
So, is it really easier using freezer paper when ripping it off the back of the fabrics. It sortof looks like it. Guess I'll find out when I try it.
So, again, thank you very very much for your video. It confirmed what I thought and figured I could do, I really just needed confirmation.
How fun to see you do this. I can actually see you and hear your voice again. I took a class that you taught. It was at the Overbrook Quilting Shop in Kansas. You taught us how to dye fabric with Procion dyes. The class was a gift I gave myself for my 40th birthday. I am now 72! It is wonderful to know that you are still teaching people the arts of quilting. Thank you for being you!
Thanks Lee for reaching out! So glad to heard that this class changed your life! That also happened to me back in 1980 when I took my first quilting class. We are nearly the same age - I am 71!
I have a vintage iron that stays on always. No steam. I love it. Plug into a light so when the light is off I know the iron is off..

I like that you didn't use huge pieces of fabric & have a lot of waste! I did want to know why you sewed through the paper? I thought the purpose of using freezer paper was to not tear the paper pattern off & waste it.
She did not tear the paper - it just makes more copies and you can see easily where to fold. You can ignore that step
That's a different technique. Here she's just using the waxy side to hold the fabric in place as she cuts and sews (as every once in a while the fabric may flip if you're not careful and get cut or stitched into the wrong place. 💖🌞🌵😷
0:50 to keep your paper from shifting under the needle, carefully stack the paper shiny side to dull side. If you place shiny side to shiny side, you'll have a hard time getting them apart after ironing them together with a dry iron. Do a quick swipe with the iron as you're just tacking it to each other. If you're nervous about getting the papers apart, just press on the outside of pattern and it will still hold your paper from shifting well enough as you mark it with the needle pricks. 💖🌞🌵😷
