Northerlion... you need to actually deploy your prisoners to the jobs you want them to do(from the deployment and jobs)... you seem to have forgotten that. Also you need a security room in order to activate your confidential informants(and you need to wait until they get to the security room in order to become fully active). Finally every morning you can check your prisoners with high sleep need. High sleep need after night= not having slept= having dug a tunnel. Oh and you could've sold those logs easier by clicking on the objects tab and then sell object...
Since this is backlog I know you may have already figured this out, but you really gotta stop building large pipes under the cells. That's how so many prisoners escaped so easily last time, cause you have a huge number of them running right underneath them.
*TIP OF THE DAY:* Doing a shakedown during sleep time does have the chance to discover tunnels IF the guards catch the prisoners in the process of digging. However, apon hearing the shakedown commotion, tunneling prisoners will be alerted to the noise and quickly rush back to their cells to hide the tunnel. Consider using the "search cell block" function at night instead. Doing this doesn't seem to alert the tunneling prisoners like a full shakedown does. A good place to start would be the cell block with the highest "sleep" need, for reasons mentioned in yesterday's tip.. but you'll need to separate your cell blocks in order to select a smaller area.
Couple of tips: 1) Using confidential informants properly: Wait until they reach security once you activate them. Once they are in security they will till you were all the contraband they know of is hidden, where the tunnels are and who is a target. This can only be seen on the CI screen whilst they are in there. The reputations they reveal do last after they have left though. 2) The door servo: Put a door servo on a door that guards need to open (eg the road gates, front gate), and connect it to a door control unit in security in the same way as CCTV. This will solve a big problem you seem to have with prison flow.
*Bonus Tip* - License Plates are the least valuable workshop product, and won't even be produced if you have lumber available. Sheet metal is only purchased in the absence of logs in your workshop. Also there is a *"SELL OBJECT"* button in the objects list, for easier selling of logs. You can literally click and drag across them to sell. There's one for dismantling objects as well.
you can also put up an exports area and your workers can and will automatically put the logs and products in the area and the trucks that come will come to "buy" it..
NerdCoreJm Yea, but if he has a workshop, which he does, then the logs will never be placed in exports, because he has saws for refining them into planks. Also, planks will never be placed in exports either while there are carpenter's tables placed, because they can be turned into beds.
NL do shakedowns at night when they are sleeping because you might discover them digging tunnels. That's how a couple escaped from the episode before. Also you have large pipes going through a couple of cells, do the large piping in the pathways/halls.
I have not played prison architect but I have played other prison simulator/ tycoon games. If you can, it would probably be effective to search a different small group of cells each night. Small scale shakedowns for different wings of the prison. You can often catch people at night digging tunnles. It helps limit how mad the prison is overall because you only hurt the sleep of a few prisoners. Another just general observation I base this on is whenever you have an escape by many people via tunnel they complain about sleep in the days before. Love the series so far. Thanks for all the great entertainment.
It was perfect. You were talking about the dirt and then we both started singing walking on sunshine together unprompted in unison. Great minds and such.
Get that metal detector in. Plus, you want your max sec to get drug treatment/behavior therapy. Make sure to get remote door access when you get your sec room. So you can repurpose your regular guards working doors to unassigned.
Wait, why do you have large pipes going through some cells? WTF? That makes it 100 times easier for the prisoners to tunnle out THOURHG the pipes... You should never have large pipes go through the cells, have them under the hallway or somthing and have small pipes going to the cells! That will make it harder for the prisoners to tunnle!!!
One tip at a time: You can let in normal sec and max sec at the same time. If you have openings in both you can fill your cells by letting both come in at the same time. If it's 14 prisoners, you can have 14 max, 14 normal, or, if you allow both at the same time, 7 of each (approx.). You can let in more prisoners.
It seems that a lot of actions are bound by gating. Perhaps NL should try to sub-divide the prison with doors so actions like stationing and searching blocks don't get too large.
NL, if you keep your prisoners suppressed all the time its good if you want them not to kill each other, however you should note that not only they work less effective, they move slower in general and also they are less likely to be interested in different programs, and when they are learning in one of the programs they are more likely to not pass. Just for you to keep that in mind, its a two sided coin to keep armed guards in those crowded spots.
Hey NL! Dogs can find tunnels, and when they do they place a little flag down. You should put some on patrol around the cells so you can spot tunnels and find out where they're coming from
you need to assign people to jobs.. i think thats under "deployment." that way you an have "free" cooks, janitors, craftmans, etc. the number of people working is depending on the size of the storage for janitors, kitchen for cooks, and workshop for craftsman. and to stop a lot of the prisons from stealing and hiding stuff put up metal detectors with a guard or K9 on patrol next to it in high traffic areas. itll have them take away a lot of the tunneling apparatus' (ie spoons, shanks, etc.). for me i have a major corridor 3-4 spaces wide that leads to every part of the prison and that way all the prisons HAVE to pass at least one set of metal detectors. i love this game and have been playing it off and on for a a solid 18 months or so. still learning but wanted to pass some knowledge on to you too.
i wonder when hes going to realize he hasnt assigned any prisoners to the workshop kitchen or janitors closet so they dont do any of the work. THIS IS MEANT FOR YOU NL!!!!!
For the love of money STOP SELLING THE LOGS. You have saws, they'll use them to make planks (since they don't PLEASE check if you even have anyone assigned to work in the workshop, my guess would be no). Logs and planks sell for 50 each, but 1 log is turned into 4 planks which makes each log worth 200. They can also be stacked to 20-stacks, which of course sell for 1000. Obviously planks can be turned into furniture, as you know, but it is relatively hard to train prisoners to be capable of doing that (as you've noticed in the previous prison).
Anyone else who plays the game, have you noticed that low-risk prisoners pay off more then MAX prisoners? (more qualified users for workshop and bonus money from no incidences over X days).
You need to replace those large pipes with small ones that go through the cells that is why prisoners can dig tunnels and escape so easily. Also i posted on the last episode you need to do shakedowns at night time. to catch prisoners digging tunnels you need to catch them in the act which they dig at night time. Dogs can also find tunnels. when they walk over a tunnel they put a yellow flag and you need to dismantle the toilet you think is the start of the tunnel
Hey, NL! If a guard walks into a prison cell while the prisoner is digging, they catch them. Hey, patrols! Also, I keep dog patrols constantly walking between my fence and cells. I have had 0 prisoners dig out in my entire playthrough.
I haven't watch the entire episode. But their is a button in objects that allows you to sell object and just mouse and left click and drag and sell them at a much faster rate. But wait for them to be cut. You get twice the amount of money.
NL, replace the large pipes in the prisoners' cells with small pipes~! All the guys who escaped last ep happened to have large pipes below their toilets. Coincidence? Nope. :3
Anybody want to start a pool on how long it will take him to realize he needs to assign some inmates to work in the workshop? I got $5 on 3 more episodes (unless someone tells him first).
NL almost always looks at the comments its just that he records in batches. So he might record 5 episodes in a row which means he can't respond to comments in videos until he records a new batch of episodes.
You're missing a metal detector in the canteen. I'm just saying because the prisoners would go to the door that's missing the metal detector as to not get caught. :3
NL: You made these lovely block of 20 cells so why do you keep cloning 2 at a time when you're going to make a full block of 20 anyway? :o Sometimes I wonder how your brain works haha
DeLePlays Yes max size is 12x12 which gives you 2 rows of four cells, but sometimes it's still easier to clone single row depending on how you position your cells (I like blocks of 20 divided into 4 smaller clusters of 5, so for me it is easier to do it with single row than fiddle with 4+1 or sth.)
Ser Jan Ham Of Bloodstone Possibly, I've never tested it, but it would likely be a slow profit since I'd imagine you don't get much more money per group of logs per tree than what the trees themselves cost. It's usually better to have prisoners refine them into planks at least. There's also the matter of employee pay. If you don't get too many more workmen and gardeners, then it might be profitable.
Please take out the Lockup time in the regime and put work time in. You really need to look at the regime better and more often. Also your deployment with jobs and by the way, prisoners are walking outside at the entrance because it's not set for "staff only"
Idle: non suspicious information gathering that raises coverage % En route: Snitch is on his way to security (raises suspicion) Active: CI shares gathered info with security, you can see prisoners marked for death/beats and contrabands the prisoners knows about (if he has 100% coverage he will even rat out himself). Nl just wanted you to know this is the first thing I look for on my newsfeed.
For me is isaac remix!
its usually the second thing i watch

There is already a tool that lets you sell objects easily. It's in the tab 'Objects'. Classic NL right there. :D
"Saged his parents"
He forced them to become older second by second!!
Gotta love that sound glitch that makes that tape measure noise every time NL moves his mouse.
Okay I was wondering wtf that was.

Hello NL
Let's see what you did wrong today shall we?
it's my favorite part of the day.
Made a crappy ass prison
"Bad security, bad health. Okay that sucks.. but we're making money."
It was perfect. You were talking about the dirt and then we both started singing walking on sunshine together unprompted in unison. Great minds and such.
Ryan, i know its just a little thing, but please, can you read the damn CEO letter in your to-do list?
Any wagers on how long it takes NL to realize that he doesn't have any prisoners assigned to work in the workshop?
Untill he reads the comments, so 2-3 episodes.
Entih 15 more episodes at least.
Angamoth If he ever read comments he would know not to use that much electricity and big water pipes.
I'll be honest, I didn't notice either o-o..
But I mainly play it in the background rather than watching the whole way through
Over 9000

The bottom door of your medium security canteen doesn't appear to have a metal detector.
NL - "something something that is an actual smart thing to worry about BUT that should be okay for now."
Nl you can click materials, sell object and just drag over all the logs to sell them instead of clicking them one by one.
My bad it's on the objects tab not materials
NL, if you keep your prisoners suppressed all the time its good if you want them not to kill each other, however you should note that not only they work less effective, they move slower in general and also they are less likely to be interested in different programs, and when they are learning in one of the programs they are more likely to not pass. I think he knows, but he rather have it like that cuz of losing money by riots
Hey NL! Dogs can find tunnels, and when they do they place a little flag down. You should put some on patrol around the cells so you can spot tunnels and find out where they're coming from
Also, there's already a click and drag tool for selling logs. I think it's under objects, right at the end.
The LCD Soundsystem joke is gold
2:57 kate "whooo" in the background - "uh... we just had a drug overdose" kek
"And then we'll just get our clone-tool up in there"
Shouldn't read that out of context...

I simply love, when u read polish names :D Im from poland, i know its one of the hardest languages but still, its hillarious
you need to assign people to jobs.. i think thats under "deployment." that way you an have "free" cooks, janitors, craftmans, etc. the number of people working is depending on the size of the storage for janitors, kitchen for cooks, and workshop for craftsman.

It read "sagged his PANTS", not his parents!
There's a sell objects option under the objects tab that makes it easier to sell multiple things like logs.
i wonder when hes going to realize he hasnt assigned any prisoners to the workshop kitchen or janitors closet so they dont do any of the work. THIS IS MEANT FOR YOU NL!!!!!
Trees cost $100, and each log (lol) sells for $50.
More importantly, do you have prisoners assigned to work in the workshop?
Trees Cost 100, Logs $50 Each, and break down in a lot of 3... $150... Did I miss something?
Sells a bunch of logs, workmen immediately replaced them. I laughed
I love this series is so funny!
I think the prison is doing really well Ryab, but something are a little cramped.
Well? Have you ever palyed the game even? XajakXx
+George Carpelan Oh, man! I want to 'palyed' the game!
Please do a lot of episodes I am enjoying the videos!
For the love of money STOP SELLING THE LOGS. For god sakes, Ryab, READ THE CEO'S LETTER.
Dogs can smell tunnels when they walk over them. They put a flag down where they sense the tunnel. So put dog patrols around your prison.
NL, it costs $100 to buy a tree and the logs sell for $150 each. So it's a good investment, though it's pretty long term to see major profits.
You are over doing the electric cable!!!
You need to replace those large pipes with small ones that go through the cells that is why prisoners can dig tunnels and escape so easily.
Also i posted on the last episode you need to do shakedowns at night time. to catch prisoners digging tunnels you need to catch them in the act which they dig at night time. 18:46 Relieving himself on Disney's Splash Mountain? Lol
Nl, you can get custom prisoners if you go to options/extras. YOu can imprison yourself, cause you are in the game!
Hi Kate!!! I hear you in the background every so often. Your neighbors must think you guys are nuts! haha
Hey, NL!
If a guard walks into a prison cell while the prisoner is digging, they catch them. Hey, patrols! Also, I keep dog patrols constantly walking between my fence and cells. I have had 0 prisoners dig out in my entire playthrough.
Also, if you search cell blocks while the prisoners are elsewhere, they won't get pissy.
I haven't watch the entire episode. But their is a button in objects that allows you to sell object and just mouse and left click and drag and sell them at a much faster rate. But wait for them to be cut. You get twice the amount of money.
Nobodies in the workshop during worktime.
NL, replace the large pipes in the prisoners' cells with small pipes~! All the guys who escaped last ep happened to have large pipes below their toilets. Coincidence? Nope. :3
"Your job is whatever the *FUCK* I say it is."
oh, ryab
take me
Use your clone tool to put down lots of lights outside.
You've missed a metal detector in your canteen
Another giant pipe right through the cells. Ahh gotta love it.
you should make a security room and make the common room bigger. also try to use your informants more too.
there is a sell objects button makes things allot easier to see multiple objects
Apparently $140 000 for 4 hours of work is "not bad".
NL you keep forgetting you have to assign prisoners to labor in the shop
you need a security room to activate your ci...cut your staffroom in half and make other half a security room
You should do a shakedown every day
Please assign prisoners to work in the workshop.
Beard focused intake, haha
There are so many logs in your workshop because your forestry is far far far too big
You can set the fast forward fps to 60 as well.
Anybody want to start a pool on how long it will take him to realize he needs to assign some inmates to work in the workshop? I got $5 on 3 more episodes (unless someone tells him first).
Well i bet he will know when the recordings on this same sit down ends
I am also sure he forgot to deploy people to workshop.
wait how many episodes have you done without looking at the comments?
NL almost always looks at the comments its just that he records in batches. So he might record 5 episodes in a row which means he can't respond to comments in videos until he records a new batch of episodes.
16 episodes if I had to guess, he gets worse the more he plays
FaBFaB66 Well he records like in batches of 5/6 but i think its going beter then prison 1 and 2
I loved it keep up the good work NL 😆😆😆😏😦😛
Hope kate feels better soon!
Who felt really bad when NL sold all the logs which could have translated to thousands of dollars.
Lay down concrete tiles because they make everyone faster.
Because fuck logic... lol
wheres long war? sorry if i missed a video saying he was done with it, i just really enjoyed it.
I never played this game but could it be that he expands way too fast without doing proper logistics and safety backups for the new inmates?
NL ya ding-dong, you need to assign prisoners to work in the workshop, just putting it there does nothing
You're missing a metal detector in the canteen. I'm just saying because the prisoners would go to the door that's missing the metal detector as to not get caught. :3
northernlion you do know that there is a sell object tool in the objects tab
NL: You made these lovely block of 20 cells so why do you keep cloning 2 at a time when you're going to make a full block of 20 anyway? :o Sometimes I wonder how your brain works haha
Mainly because the clone tool can't cover more than 10x10 or so, never checked, but max size is smallish.
Angamoth it can do 6 cells fully
DeLePlays Yes max size is 12x12 which gives you 2 rows of four cells, but sometimes it's still easier to clone single row depending on how you position your cells (I like blocks of 20 divided into 4 smaller clusters of 5, so for me it is easier to do it with single row than fiddle with 4+1 or sth.)
What if you were to make a prison, but without prisoners but just lumberjacks...
Then you would have a forestry that just sells logs every now and then and nothing interesting going on.
So... A canadian prison then?, ok i'm sorry i'll leave...
SamuraiMan316 Would you make profit though?
Ser Jan Ham Of Bloodstone
Possibly, I've never tested it, but it would likely be a slow profit since I'd imagine you don't get much more money per group of logs per tree than what the trees themselves cost. It's usually better to have prisoners refine them into planks at least.
There's also the matter of employee pay. If you don't get too many more workmen and gardeners, then it might be profitable.
SamuraiMan316 Yeah I think that in the end you might not make any money, would be a nice experiment though...
Please take out the Lockup time in the regime and put work time in. You really need to look at the regime better and more often. Also your deployment with jobs and by the way, prisoners are walking outside at the entrance because it's not set for "staff only"
There is a metal detector missing in the canteen
Good thing you pointed that out to him when this series is 7 months old and is over and done with.
"I think this is something they need to add in: a click-and-drag tool..." *sigh*
also biggest source is delivers put a dog in deliveries
You build a ridiculously large Forestry and then complain about all the logs...
I believe your prisoners need 3-hours to work in the workshop
Paving stone. That is all.
All of your prisoners are suppressed....
No one is assigned to the workshop
And another Polish! Cezary Wójcik, doesn't really seem threatening.
Did he assign any workers to the workshop or just start the program to teach them.
Why dont you build a perimeter wall?
When activating the snitches, what's the difference between 'activate' and 'idle'?
Idle: non suspicious information gathering that raises coverage %
En route: Snitch is on his way to security (raises suspicion)
Active: CI shares gathered info with security, you can see prisoners marked for death/beats and contrabands the prisoners knows about (if he has 100% coverage he will even rat out himself). Any searches while CI is in "active" mode raise his suspicion bar.
Snitches is a prisoner effect, like Ex Polices they are likely to be murdered by other prisoners.
Confident Informants are what Angamoth descibed however.
did you build a staff room, NL?. because I can't see one. why giggle on large pipes?
so here's a question:
is there any way to improve the success rates of your prisoners for passing various programs? Or do you occasionally just get boatloads of idiots? I have like 2 of 46 passed kitchen, for example.
sneeki breeki
There is a click and drag tool NL you just click... And drag...
