  • Like seizures, tremors are involuntary rhythmic muscle movements that look like shaking, shivering, or trembling. They can be rapid or slow, involve the whole body or just one part, and vary in intensity from mild to incapacitating. Tremors in dogs have many possible causes and can mean very different things.

ikr - what a wonderful world we live in ... i literally just took my charlie in for a well visit and walked out with a clean bill of health ... gave him his simparica and he had woke up the following day as if he was stuck in the "aura" phase of a seizure. everyone that came over asked "what's up with charlie?" beacuse he is ready to play fetch as soon as anyone visits. a day later i am googling why it looks as if my dogs eyes are rolling into the back of his head and reading all these articles about different conditions and he starts having a seizure right then and there. i have cbd oil coming in tomorrow. i can't afford all of them tests.
this was the first well visit that they didn't exam him in the room with me, they took him into the back. of course my mind starts thinking of everything possible like "omg did they drop him on his head?" it may sound silly but he has never had that look in his eyes after a seizure and a seizure never lasted as long as this one did. i can only pray that the cbd does wonders for him, like the dogs in all of the wonderful testimonials i read.
please send positive and healing vibes and thoughts to my little man.
i was just told how healthy he was for his age (july 3rd. he will turn 12) ❤
less than 24 hours later ....

@jasong6967 I understand what you mean. I worked at a specialty hospital that I had to bring my own pet to and the cost, even with the discount, was still soo high.
Speaking from experience, I strongly recommend acquiring pet insurance. There are so many to chose from. Progressive, trupanion, Nationwide, Embrace, you name it!
Having insurance will help cut those costs down tremendously and will save you money in the long run. I’m not just saying that either, I’ve seen it with so many of my clients.
Having a pet is like having a little human. The veterinary industry is catching up. So do us pet parents. 🙏🏼

Thank you so much +Southeast Veterinary Neurology. You don't know how much your videos mean a lot to us who live overseas with no specialist in the country. We are located in the Philippines and our doctors here have limited time explaining our dogs' test results. My 16 and half Japanese Spitz mix male intact dog (never been bred) had his second seizure this year, this one took two hours continued seizure (he was responsive to my voice and very aware while he was having a seizure, teeth clenching, front limb paddling) until we reached the nearest emergency vet. After watching this, I think what my dog had was a tremor rather than a seizure.
We had just been to our regular vet a few hours before the tremor/seizure happened. Our regular vet says he has low phosporous is the cause of his "seizure", and this was due to the ceistine stones (not blocked), and his platelet was borderline low also. All other blood and imaging tests came back normal (no head tumor showing in the xray, heart normal size, only mild arthritis on his left hind). The ER vet injected a strong sedative for the seizure which he responded well. We went home and the next day he was fine. But on the third day, he showed signs of vestibular disease (nystagmus, falling over, left head tilt and left head lameness and left paw knuckling).
My question is, how is a tremor/seizure and signs of vestibular disease related? Can a dog have with a normal blood test results (except for the phosporous) have an inner ear infection?
The ER vet thinks our regular vet might have been looking at the wrong direction (too much focus on the stones) despite the monthly follow up checkups we proactively do. I'm at loss I don't know how to proceed. He is walking again now with a head tilt but othewise normal and back in his happy self. Please help me, Doc. Thank you for your time.

RSO helped our dog when she was a pup. It would just happen out of anywhere, she was miserable. I gave her half a rice grain serving of RSO - it started happening less. She WANTED the medicine. It took 2-3 different times before we can say it finally stopped. She hasn't had them again since she was a puppy (5 years ago). Everyone in the family was shocked she was healed ❤

I think this happened to my dog just about 3 minutes ago. I was sitting on my bed, and my dog was just chewing on his toy when he randomly came up to me. I thought he wanted me to play with him, but then I looked at him more, and he was shaking. I thought "Oh, it's happening again" so I ran to my parents and put him on the floor and he was shaking, staying SUPER close to the ground, and walking like a drunk. He kept trying to crawl into my lap so I could hug him, but he was having a hard time doing that. I picked him up lightly, and he was *very* tense. This is the third time it's happened, and it's very worrying.

She walks on her back legs now. We bought a ramp for her to get up on the couch (got it at the thrift store) and doggy steps for the bed. She probably can never jump again and she does have bladder control problems. We work around that well though since we have hard floor and we've put up washable rugs for her to stand on and not slip. We use puppy pads under the sheets on the bed and on the couch, then blankets tucked into the couch to hid the pads.

Good morning. I just stumbled upon this/your video. Realizing this means, or vlog, I own a Shar Pei. First issue being when I take her to a "vet" they have never seen one prior, and appear to lack knowledge, being honest two have even suggested it. She is app. 3.5 years old, and incredible dog, her intelligence is incredible. She has a seizure app. 2 years ago, in the middle of the night. I drove a distance to a emergency clinic where they viewed her and performed little to nothing. She was fine for app. 9 months and had another. It's reoccurred twice since. What I notice it begins with her holding her rear leg in the air, and it can be "either" leg, followed by tremors, or what I believed were seizures. So, in 2.5 years this event has happened 4, or maybe 5 times, beginning with her holding, limping with her leg in the air(again, can be either side/leg), then the tremors, usually one hour long. Afterwards she is fine, walks, runs, jumps, etc., like it never happened. Any "general" idea's??????

As of right now, there are no known causes or treatments. What I do to help my dog is I pet her and talk to her in a soft voice so she knows I'm there and it's okay. It calms her down some and she lays on me until it's over

I found out this week that my dog has limited kidney function and her liver is not doing well either. She's 7.5 years old German shepherd. For a few days now she is having tremors, the first day it was a 30 minute episode. As I am writing this, it has been hours of tremors on and off.
Am I poisoning her with her little liquid kidney helper medication? Or is this associated with her kidneys not working?
She also has been experiencing high fever 102f-105f (averaging 103+f). The pain injection they gave my dogs for bring the fever down does not work anymore it seems. And I have been told these injections are currently bad for her kidneys.

How can we tell the difference between if the dog is having tremors or seizure?

    • @SEVNeurology
      @SEVNeurology  ปีที่แล้ว

They are similar in that they are involuntary rhythmic movements of the body.
Seizures typically have a loss of consciousness or at least a change in level of consciousness. Seizures also often have autonomic signs (drooling, urination and/or defecation).
Some forms of tremors can be interrupted by talking to the pet or getting its attention. Pets typically can’t be distracted out of a seizure.

No, but of you start to notice any saliva or bodily fluids come out, then I would seek a vet immediately. My dog has had them for years now, and we've come to the conclusion that it's when she's really stressed and sometimes just too hot

All these tests... how about all the vaccinations ?
    Try CBD for doggies.
And don't spray pesticides around your lawn or gravel.

    • @SEVNeurology
      @SEVNeurology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The tests are to find a cause. Tests often give us the underlying reason - which is seldom pesticides. Currently, there is zero evidence to suggest CBD has any safety or efficacy.
We often meet dogs with treatable neurological disease that were “treated” with unproven recommendations such as CBD, only to delay an accurate diagnosis and early treatment. That’s our big concern with these sorts of recommendations.

Your vet did nothing to your damn dog, and if you suspect that, file a law suit. Don't come here worrying all these other people that are just concerned for their pets. My dog has had these tremors for years and she hasnt eaten the food you mentioned or been exposed to ticks at all. We live in Alaska, so there's no ticks cause it's too cold.

Survey of canine use and safety of isoxazoline parasiticides. V. Palmerieri et al
"The FDA is working with manufacturers of isoxazoline products to include new label information to highlight neurological events because these events have been seen consistently across the isoxazoline class of products"
"As pre‐approval IND studies were done in only a limited number of animals that did not show neurotoxic serious AE, it is not surprising that higher frequencies of such AE were noted once they were commercialized and given to much larger populations."

I worry that the diet we feed our dogs are an issue. If you take a Cheetah or Lion from the wild and put it in a zoo you feed it what it ate in the wild. Our dog foods sometimes don't do that. They are carnivores and have been for 100k years yet we want to feed them Broccoli and vegetables mixed with meat.
They would never do that with the zoo animals or they'd be charged with animal cruelty. Take a Cheetah fed meat in a cage and they still look lean even confined and sedentary.
My Yorkie had tremors yesterday and it's scary, I thought it might be a Hypoglycemic reaction so I gave him some milk and minutes later he was fine. Not absolutely sure what it was but he's 10 yo and yes he's like my son. I would protect him from danger at all costs.
This was a very informative video but did little to point us in the right direction to test if the cause is A B or C as a cause of the issue. I think like the population of obese Americans the diet is key. What we are told by AMA is killing the society as a whole and the "study" group is all around us. Look at the food you feed your puppy.
