5 Things Magicians Should Be More Chill About | 5x5 With Craig Petty
Welcome back to Magic TV. It is a Monday and it's 9pm which means it's time for a 5 x 5.
The concept of this video is simple. Craig talks about five different subjects. He gives himself five minutes to talk about each topic. When the timer hits zero Craig moves onto another topic. 5 x 5 is always quick and snappy and you never know what you are going to get.
In this week's 5 x 5 Craig covers 5 things magicians often stress way too much about, Craig included. But Craig is zen af now, inner peace has found him (he made a rant 3 days ago), and its time to chill out on some of these 'issues'.

The flashing videos (not of Ry, he is a kid and very good for his age) really annoys me. Probably cause the thing I most strive in magic is technique mastery, not the most profitable choice for sure 😂

I actually do think internet magic is downgrading the quality of magicians, and If I use your wrestling analogy there are loads of Indy wrestlers that just don't know how to put on a proper show, even half the guys on AEW don't really know what they are doing, there are wrestlers that think wrestling is do every move you can think off until your time runs out, and likewise there are people in magic that don't know when they are being over flashy or don't know how to properly routine their sets because they've learned from rouge sources or are self-taught and straight up won't listen to people that know how the business should be presented.
There's one guy on Tik Tok/TH-cam, and I won't name him, who has a bucket ton of followers, but his fundamentals are awful and his set creation is just so out of whack that he is doing himself and the magic community a disservice in the long term. For me a magician that doesn't know that you shouldn't do 3-4 force card and reveal in impossible location tricks in a row, is as bad as a wrestler that doesn't understand that a mid-card wrestler shouldn't be having 30 minute back and forth matches with a main eventer.

Leave it to Craig to have a video where he spends 5min talking about 5 topics, and have it run almost an hour 😂

That’s because he says / repeats the same thing several diffent ways and sentences 😮

I'm with your on this Craig, I have loved everything you have put out and have a lot of what you have created the same with a lot of other creators BUT I only get what fits my performance and persona, as far as exposure and accidental flashing happens, I've heard it said that "magicians are guarding an empty vault" I've never had issues at any of my shows and get standing ovations and have gotten told after "I've seen that trick before but the way you did it, it was amazing" so I don't run when I'm not being chased.

The exposure both intentional or accidental is one of the things that chips away at people having any respect for magic or magicians. A lot of it is about seems to be about chasing the almighty dollar I suppose.Darwin Ortiz said magic shops prevent many of us ever becoming great performers and Eugene Burger said ''Wait a month'' before you show anyone your latest piece.Does not the craft of magic deserve that?

Hi Craig - yeah right - if people would just relax… but then there’s their ego, and that don’t allows them to take the stick out of their a… 😂 but insulting Ryland - that’s so low.
Makes you feel sorry for some human beings…😢

Hi Craig! I came up with another question. In a time with so many magic products/current books, would you still recommend people examine older material, such as older magic books/old DVDs over current resources? Also, what products would you recommend?

Go back to old Linking Rings from almost 100 years ago. People back then were bitching about exposure on the back of Camel cigarettes. So I laugh when people complain about TH-cam videos. Nothing has changed.

The only thing that rubs me wrong about you is when you said in one of your videos that you 'don't believe in tutorials'. Your three card trick was so good I actually went throught the trouble of learning it, and I appreciate the hints you gave, but a full tutorial would have been much, much better.

We just have to accustom ourselves to the idea that people can now find out how the trick is done if they want, and many of them will. But we can still provide the magic moment when they see the trick performed.

it saddens me to listen to a man having to back his son up on youtube because of the kid getting hate for doing something he is passionate about.. if my child were ever to receive hateful comments from grown men in the community then they had better make sure they stay behind that keyboard

Exactly, they should take a look in the fcking mirror. How in your right mind can you go off to a boy doing what hes enjoying.

Not watched the video yet, but my number 1 answer to this would be your double lift, no matter what technique you use it's probably more than good enough to fool lay people stop worrying about being undetectable to magicians

I disagree with that one, some people turn two cards like a wood block, even tho layman doesn't necessary know exactly what's going on, they def feel the suspect move, and that kills part of the wonder

Agree with Leo… it’s about looking natural. Even a lay person knows when something doesn’t look right.

I have mixed thoughts on exposure what I find most of the time is so many people saying how they see the exposure videos and think magic is bullsh*t but then they meet me and see what I do their believe is could revamped. I guess exposure in a way gives me the ability to stand out and actually be a good magician ❤

Other than children, no one believes magic is real. But you can be amazed. And a good effect performed well, can seem like real magic. I still love watching magic. In fact, there's just so much out there, I struggle to organize my practice and rehearsal time well. I keep wanting to learn something new every day.

Max Maven released a book called "The Protocols of The Elders Of Magic", which is quotes from magicians saying that magic is dead for the last 100 years, or whatever it was.
