Thanks a bunch for this. You are absolutely correct on the direction of the windlass, either way should work easily/well. It seems to me that something is funky with this particular one, it should not be folding on itself or twisting up so easily. Some twisting of the plate is expected, but nothing like we see here, no collapsing in on itself, and no twisting of the hook and loop should be occurring.
I am working to replicate this issue to find how to fix it. After watching this a few times, I think maybe pulling the strap a in a diagonal manner (not parallel to the strap) may be the cause. But even if so, I would agree with you that it should function well outside of perfect conditions, as the moment in which you need a TQ is the opposite of that. Dirty, bloody, panicked and rushed, the tool needs to work every time.
We recommend a certain way of staging it, the way they come, and have a video on how to do it on our website/youtube, after having tested many different methods ourselves. Its a bit of the inverse of how you have it staged, and yes, the windlass belongs on the side, not inside. Also, occasionally the carabiner clip needs a little manual help to lock. Another tip, some people find it easier to only grab one end of the windlass when doing one handed applications.
Your feedback will absolutely help me improve the design, I have some ideas that I am testing now. Much appreciated. I sent you an email prior to seeing this, but please let me know if you have any more thoughts, find any other issues, specific cause of this issue, etc. Thank you.

You’re very welcome and thank you for the reply and for looking into the issue. I highly respect your polite and considerate response and I’m sure we both truly want lives to be saved

I tried replicating the issues you show. I was unable to do so. Worked fine.
With that said, my understanding is this TQ is not a replacement for CAT or SOFTT, nor is it TCCC certified. Snakestaff does not market it as such, nor do they market it for harsh field use where a TQ would get full of mud.
My take on the Snakestaff TQ (and why I carry it now over my previous flat packed SOFTT-W) is it's designed for typical Civilian EDC carry in a non-harsh urban/suburban environment. Having a smaller form factor simply makes it easier to carry concealed.

I’m glad that’s the case in your experience. However, they are marketing it to replace other tourniquets because you said yourself it’s designed to be carried. That means it has replaced other options in your daily life where you would bet your life on this product. It makes no difference to me whether anyone buys one or not since I’m not paid by Tac med, North American Rescue, or Snakestaff. All I can say is I have taught thousands of people to use tourniquets and the one time I presented this in class it failed. And the times I have tested it on myself it was inconsistent, therefore I will not bet my life or my families lives when I already carry other options.

@@shieldbeareroffaith I'm not sure that's entirely true that it's replacing other TQs. More often than not my TQ is what I choose to leave in my car instead of taking it into places because since I personally have never needed it I give myself the false security that "I'll have time to run to my car" when I do know that might not always be the case. The Snakestaff TQ should ideally encourage people who currently don't carry a TQ everywhere to do so. I'll still have a CAT in my backpack, and another in my car. But now I just have an expedient option that I'll never be able to tell myself "this is too big to carry." But I do agree with not betting your families life on it. That's why I still have my CATs on hand.

I am so glad I found your video. I was going to purchase this earlier today but was having second thoughts about the practical application. I train with the SOF and CAT mainly and they work great. The thing I like about this TQ is the form factor and how I can just put it in my pocket. Hopefully they improve and make better iterations on this TQ.

brother thank you for making this video! I've been wondering about that TQ for a while now and I've wanted to ask in the live chats but I keep missing them. I'll be sticking with the CAT.

Looks like you might as well pull the initial torque until that buckle turns completely sideways, if it's ever going to have a chance of staying tight. At that point, it's no longer an inch wide. The carabiner C-Clip seems like a gimmick that just gets in the way... For all the hassle, I might as well try to self apply a SWAT-T 😆. Thanks for the review Twitch. I'll stick with my SOF-T's & CAT-T's!

Twitch, have you ever thought about designing your own TQ? Are there teeth were the strap comes out? If not maybe that is why the strap is sliding to one side. Just some thoughts I had. Thanks for taking more of your time to show us what’s wrong with this TQ.

My pleasure. I thought about it one time but there are a lot of patents and quality products already out there. I do wish Tac med would make their C clamp larger on the SOFT T

I really like the idea of this product however I will be sticking with CATs for EDC. I'm sure there will be a gen2 with the problems fixed but as of now there's just too many things that have to be done a certain way for this to work. I do love how the designer is in the comments and actively working on a fix but I think this should have been squared away before releasing it.
