Purchased a 2017 SLR new and owned it until last year, we usually swap out a bike and car to the garage stable each year and really enjoyed ours (the wife and adult kids liked it and borrowed a good bit during nice months). For us it wasn't a motorcycle replacement (we still had 6 of those at the time), it was just a fun vehicle to cruise around in. It's not as quick as our Corvette, closer to our Miata but not as car-like, just all around fun to cruise in. It feels like some sort of side-by-side/go-cart type of vehicle. Whatever you ride/drive... ride safe and have fun.
Nice man. We always love hearing stories from proven buyer's. Man, you have a lot of equipment. Nice job! Yep, I agree. It's all good whatever you drive/ride/fly/ski, etc. We are inclusive just like you. Thanks for leaving the nice comment and we will see you on the road. Cheers.
Hi Bugs, I'm not sure if you missed or ignored the point about describing the feeling and differences, along with some additional context. Maybe that was because you were focused on the money aspect instead of the actual conversation. In any case, you and I must have different definitions of "rich." Still, ride safe and have fun. 😊
@@slolane yeah, I suppose I saw you listing a massive amount of vehicles in your garage and it came out like you were just flexing. But people do live in different tax brackets, and your experience with this vehicle does contribute to the conversation
Im willing to bet my life on the fact that 95% of the negative comments here are by the people that have never driven it. Dont be a sheep, rent one and try it for yourself. I have driven many sports cars and own a few at the moment, including the slingshot, and this thing is literally the most fun thing ive ever driven. I have the 2016 SLR and on a twisty road, you just become one with it. Its not a bike, its a car with 3 wheels thats very capable in the twisties. Given the fact that it only has 3 wheels, it doesnt have to conform with the safety regulations thus keeping the weight to 1750lbs. With an intake, im at around 180hp and only 1750lbs, do the math. This thing moves. Ive heard people say its as fast as a Miata..? I've ripped many g35's and mustang GT's in this thing. In the canyons 30mph-80mph, this thing is extremely capable, it eats up tight turns and switchbacks like nothing. Ive seen to many youtube reviews of people complaining about how much you actually feel in the vehicle and how they get hot in the sun or you get to much wind in your hair. Get outta here with that..
I've owned 3 Hayabusa's and currently own a 2021 Slingshot SL. I don't agree with your review at all, but it's just that, your review! The slingshot is much safer to drive than a motorcycle and just as fun. By the way, my motorcycles didn't have airbags either! lol
So its not safe, its headlights suck, its not as fast or stable as a real motorcycle, it doesn't have a roof like a real car, it costs as much (or more) than a real car, no heater or heated seats and it doesn't even get better MPG than most cars... I genuinely don't see the point of this thing. Why does it exist?
3-wheeled vehicles don't make sense to me. It mixes the worst aspects of cars with the worst aspects of motorcycles. I'm trying to think of one redeeming positive thing to say about them, but I got nothing. I always appreciate the honest take from Adam.
Greetings, these can be easily modified and they are super fun. I have a 2015 with a turbo, race suspension, race seats, sticky track tires. 300 HP, very fast and handles great have done a couple of track days with it.
I own a slightshot sl 2023 and i absolutely love it i turn my 70s 80s music on and just cruise along the beaches here in stuart fl there isn't no motorcycle license needed or a helmet only if you choose to wear a helmet
The helmet applicability in California is still debated. Registered as a motorcycle but no M1 license endorsement needed. CA law indicates helmets required if not "fully enclosed". But enclosed refers to crash protection and whether passengers can fall off, not weather protection.
In Richmond Virginia there is a group of folks who customize them. Make them look really nice. I like them for the fact my wife may ride with me and won’t on a bike. But…it’s a car as you said haha
the people who decided to label this as an "autocycle" or simply anything other than a _car_ are downright idiots. It has two wheels for steering with a flat profile and a steering wheel. It does not tip over when not moving. You initiate a turn by turning the control _towards_ the orientation of the turn. The nikken and the (piaggio) mp3? Will tip over. Do not have a steering wheel. Yes, they do have two front _wheels_ and they do use them for steering, but they do not have a flat profile and they do lean with the vehicle. Last but not least, if you know how to drive cars but _not_ know how ride motorcycles, you know how to _drive_ a polaris. You do _not_ know how to ride a nikken or mp3. If you know how to ride motorcycles but _not_ know how to drive cars, you know how to ride a nikken/mp3, but you do not know how to drive the polaris.
these designations are more for legal stuff than consumer. they need to give it some word so they know what requirements to follow but they know the user is just going to call it a weird car
Honestly when it comes to the dry I can no longer physically ride a motorcycle (hopefully not for a long time) I'd think about picking one of these things up. Not a fan of cager sports cars. They seem like a blast in the canyons.
If half the price would sell twice as many. If you like unusual, exclusive type vehicles this is it. KTM, I believe makes a real experience one. The Ariel Atom is unique 4 wheel vehicle
I prefer Can-Am Spyders, specifically the F3-S, which I own. Handlebars and a motorcycle riding position. Iget thrown clear feel the same about potential accidents on my F3-S. It would be difficult to get thrown clear. Also there is nowhere to escape to, whereas on my MT-01, I can hit the tarmac right by the hedge/wall etc.
I have the 2024 SLR auto shift. The only thing I don’t like about it. The way it shifts even with the paddle shifter’s still don’t like it. Wish it shifted more like a regular car..
I think you could make a piratical one but I don't think this is one. Having one less wheel does reduce drag and having an extra wheel is a extra safety but this is not trying to be practical.
I never understood the appeal of this thing, at least the amount of appeal one must feel from this to justify laying out the money for one. By far the biggest downside is its inability to split lanes, which is a HUGE, ESSENTIAL benefit of riding a bike. Even an MP3 or the similar version from Yamaha -- don't know if they're still selling it -- can split lanes, but this thing absolutely cannot. You can't split lanes, it holds far less luggage than a car, it's exposed to inclement weather conditions, you're really conspicuous on this thing on the road without looking in the least bit cool, there's no top... I don't get it.
Most reviewers don't review these things for what they are. It's embarrassing listening to some dude whine about what it doesn't have...it's not a car and it's not a motorcycle. Start with that you goof.
It looks like a lot of fun, but I wouldn't trade my bike for one. I've said this about the Fiat 500 and smart cars, if I wanted something that vulnerable I'd rather ride a motorcycle.
A Polaris Slingshot doesn't take the place of a motorcycle, but comparing it to a car does it a complete disservice. I own a 2021 Polaris Slingshot R and a 2023 Indian Pursuit, and I enjoy my bike and my Slingshot for different reasons.
Looks cool, but its strange how “sporty” it appears but you shouldnt drive it fast…or even at night lolol. I think id spend my money on a Miata and then use my left over money on a sport bike too 🤣

Nice car, but where the rear part
It really hasn't changed since 2014. Even the price has stayed consistent, only going up about 2500 or so since then.
to be fair thats how many of these things are. they are so uncommon that its not like most people see the same one all of the time, so why update?

Great review, Adam. This would be a cool vehicle to rent for the weekend.
yeah I think driving like once would be neat. something I always hear about 3 wheel stuff is it makes it impossible to doge potholes

do cabrios require a helmet?
convertibles?
so does it have turn signals or do u just not use them…
Motorcycle Magazine it's not a "glitch", the oil pump needs to prime before you start the Slingshot.
I can't say much me an my wife have a 2023 SL an its smooth an a great ride they knocked it out the park !
Question I am going to buy one next year my wife is 4'11" will she be able to drive it?
Part of the reason I ride is to split lanes.
this is for people who are pro at splitting lanes
Unusual pauses. In the middle. Of sentences. Reminds me. Of. William Shatner.

Nice looking from the front, ugly from the rear….looks like a rolling sofa from behind.

Always thought the slingshot looked weird from behind. Like the back of a small couch.
Hey dude, FYI - it's pretty easy to see where you probably live in these videos. May want to start the video from a parking lot or something.
Uhhhm. Not a motorcycle. Don’t care what politicians call it.
