I REALLY appreciate Jason's explanation of safety and the crumple zone, particularly as an autistic physicist (who has made a down payment on this truck!), and a safety engineer who was the architect for the LCLS radiation safety system. Yes, I'm basically Sheldon Cooper. Concerning the interior, I have one request: PLEASE don't make everything on a touch panel! There's a reason why they don't do this on planes, and it's instant tactile accessibility. Deep options on the touch panel are awesome, but I want to be able to change cabin temperature, fan speed, and the radio station with a single touch, not navigating a menu. Also, consider user-assignable knobs/buttons, so various users might have access to controls that are important to them. Cheers, I'm looking forward to my truck!!! (and I'm going to put a shell on it, even if I have to customize my own - glad to see the aerodynamic analysis, you're great for being so transparent!).
I really like the Telo's looks. Unlike most modern cars that look like pieces of crumpled paper, the Telo seems to bring back the rugged beauty of a work truck - man's best friend.
Ya I really think they need to emphasize that better. Its a 5.5/8 ft box which is amazing on any truck but on this size is just awesome. They shouldnt say its a 5.5 ft box without always being clear it is kinda both sizes. A choice between seating and a full size box is very functional. With its awesome approach and departure angles the telo (especially if raised) could also be an offroad beast (marketing as pure urban is kinda silly).
I only got interested in this company through Drew. Found out about them through his channel. And seeing him as the head of the Media makes it even more accessible for me. Thank you for explaining with your great sense of humor.
I really like the fact that they've gotten rid of the massive hood/bonnet you see on most EVs these days - this is the kind of "reimagining of the car" I was expecting to see in the EV market. The driving position also means you don't need a front window to see through (aka Canoo) but your knees don't become the crumple zone (old VW Kombi). The design looks like it wouldn't take much to turn it into a 7-seater van with 3 rows of seats (2+2+3). Conversely, with that open front wheel arch, fitting it with offroad tyres might also be interesting. Looking forward to see their progress from afar here in Australia.
Well that was quick. Jump right in, get things done! One thing you seem to be getting used to is not talking about they, but we. Congratulations on your new perspective of TELO.
You kept the same vibe, with some extra flare I like it. I think some yt shorts that grab random peoples attention would be ideal for the most outreach possible. This truck is sick and more people need to know about it
I'm very excited to see what this company does because in a sense for a very general DIY family guy. This truck would really hit on all the needed points from what I've been seeing. Very excited for what's coming next!
Congrats ! best original and funny presentation of any product I have ever seen , keep it up ! recommend general info about the product like range , cost , times of deliveries etc. hope to see more videos and specs on the way .. , very exciting .
If Rivian made an R3T or Ford made an electric Maverick, I'd get that. I love the idea of the Telo, but I really don't like the look. 🤷🏻♂️ Hope others do and make Telo a success.
Telo + Aptera would be the only two EVs to meet all my needs and my families! It would be amazing if the two could become one company or Partners in the future!
love those technical videos. Please more of that. Also if you dont mind it would be nice to have SI-units (km, mm, Nm etc) on display for us non-americans. :)
This guy is great! I'm not even in the market for a truck, but looks like this would make a great little SUV. Looking forward to learning more about the efficiency.
Great video, you are going to do well for TELO, Love the little truck. I drive a Ram 2500 Diesel (to pull trailers) on a regular basis, and became interested in the TELO as a second vehicle when I am not pulling trailers. Look forward to getting a little truck for myself someday
The balancing act will be cost to capability. An initial model with 350 miles and those capabilities would be great but less range and power would still get the job done. Modern trucks (gas and EV) are just insanely expensive. Interested to know what their drag and weight expectations are because 350 miles with such a physically small pack is definitely impressive. With such a push for space efficiency / size I cant see Drew's much loved LFP in a Telo unless people can deal with 200 miles of range or even less.
Also after the crumple zone presentation, I now want this truck more than the cybertruck! Please bring this to Australia! 8ft bed in the footprint of a mini, yes please!!!
In a perfect world, I would like to know every detail about this before it shows up in my driveway and I put it in service. The crumple zone performance explanation showcased Jason’s skills and that was great. I thought it was hilarious when Drew reacted to the term “jerk”. Also good that Jason didn’t go into “jerk is the 3rd derivative of displacement” which absolutely wouldn’t help sell vehicles. Would be cool to have the other members of the team introduced and let them explain their contributions. The 3C battery king’s overview would be great. On the packaging front, interested to see what the flavor will be on the seats, dash, etc.. For those of us who are thrilled with simplicity and utility, we might be thinking in a way that doesn’t thrill an average consumer. The direction the team chooses will be interesting. On my end, really interested in the chassis and construction. Like to what extent the heavy gauge formed brackets are a mule thing to get parts in place/test vs. carried forward as the real deal to avoid stamping tooling etc.. Really looking forward to this!
This was so much fun to watch!! I’ve always wanted to see a company’s BTS of their spaces and how they have everything set up. This is gonna be a great series to watch the evolution of. I can already tell…o (ok, I’ll leave now)
I have been following TELO and is similar to Aptera except within the truck space. I love it and great job Drew with your content! This is definitely unique, efficient and has a lot to offer. Best of luck to you and TELO in hopefully getting this to production for consumers.
My guess is the bandwidth for a lot of folks is wearing thin as a lot of these startups have been delayed in terms of coming to market. Let's hope you all can move faster than some of those others but as someone who has been waiting for a Kei truck offering this one is up on my list. Onward.
I would love to see ideas/thoughts on the dash, seats, and interior philosophy. Reparability and off-the-shelf parts was talked about before. I would like to see more on how this consideration is going into the design of the vehicle. I haven't put a reservation in yet, since I can't commit to a car payment until I know WHEN this will come out. I realize sooner is better, but take your time and make an amazing product. I'll work on my budget when you can confirm a date.
Now that Drew is on the case, I'm into Telo. Seems like a great truck option, and what a lot of people want - a small truck! If they keep it simple, hopefully can get the price around 40k? Affordability is king. Repairability and replacement costs are also mega important. Keep it open-source and easy for 3rd party shops to repair, have good customer service, these would go a long way with public sentiment.
Interesting explaination of the crash zone, but what about side impacts on the wheel for example? It seems like the wheel is just a few inches from your legs/knees in this car
That is a nice small truck with a future if it can do real truck things and be affordable for the average person. I hope that it will have a tow capacity of at least 5000 pounds.
@@TELOtrucks WOW, that would be awesome! That is about what a Nissan Frontier can tow. I was planning on purchasing a new Frontier at the end of the year but definitely prefer a BEV. I'm also working on a solar system that would be able to power my home and have the capacity to change an electric vehicle. If you can produce a reliable vehicle and have a price point that is competitive with a Nissan Frontier then I believe you will be very successful. When do you believe the vehicle will actually be produced?
One more thing, if possible please construct the vehicle so that anyone with moderate mechanical/electrical skill can service/repair their own vehicle. Today's vehicles are full of proprietary information, tools, procedures and ECT that even factory trained technicians fail to properly diagnose, repair and service the vehicles.
Yo Drew, You need a Telo shirt, you’re on the Team now. On that, you have until the Fall to put out some kick-ass hoodies for the fans. Some of us live in the woods in cold places. I want Jason’s marker board sketch signed and memorialized on the back. Don’t be bashful, margin it up to support the cause! And yes we need that model for our desks.
I'm curious about the exposed front wheels. I know the door openings (pass through vents) help but you can clearly see lots of "dirty" turbulence at 7:59. There's not much you can change with rearview mirrors, the back of the cab, and the tailgate but the front wheels should be easy to fix - wheel pants, maybe? Also, I'm about 98% sold on the looks of the vehicle but (like Rivian) I'm not a fan of the headlights (I like them much more than the Rivian lights) and bigger, flush-mounted, headlights could/would be a nice upgrade. BTW, instant subscriber. Looking forward to mush more content!
Yes, it seems to me that a big improvement in aerodynamic efficiency can be had by working on some type of deflector in front of/over the front wheels.
One small comment for the design team. Down the road accessories will be a thing. If you do your own BedSlide in aluminum for the cap version, you could make it removable vs. the bolt-ins most people get now. It would be a useful step up for some. When you get to the cap details, I will be interested in how you’re doing the attachment. On my Sahara Unlimited, I can pull of the rear, it being a common Jeep thing to “go Safari” and what not. But then when you “go commercial” like my STX, you tend to just leave a cap (I have an ARE) on there. If you have a removable bedslide and cap provision, it would get you extra points on the utility side…
Glad you spirit has arrived at Telo Trucks. They are currently my 2nd choice after the Canoo Pickup. But one never knows if Canoo will be around in two years.
This is great! Little updates like this help keep people excited and involved! The updates from Aptera are a great example and it looks like y'all are doing the same which is amazing!
The messaging on the crash safety might benefit from some tweaking. To me it ended up feeling like, “here’s how we do the minimum to comply with the safety rules” vs “this is why our vehicle will keep you safe.”
Agreed. Tucking the crumple into the truck without entering the cabin was definitely unclear. Perhaps they have channels meant to absorb the material but it was not well defined. Also important to realize that meeting the minimum legal requirement for safety isnt a great sales pitch; probably good to have Drew understand the content privately and decide on the message and understand potential reactions a bit more in advance.
@@hedleypepper1838we all heard that. The question is from the front of the truck to the occupant is so small I don’t know where or how it’s going to crumple without taking out my legs.
Drew some questions for you: What is the bed payload capacity, will it have NACS charting compatiblity, can it tow, how much can it tow, can I reserve it in Australia or is it US right hand drive only? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
3:26 It does push back underneath but the transmission is also part of crumple zone. The whole transmission bell will get crushed. Minivans are good example of vehicles that have shorter noses yet they have good crumple zone. Most of them have transversely mounted engines meaning that there's space in front and behind the engine. Plus the exhaust and intake manifolds will crush making even more space in my opinion.
You had me at “Telo there” ❤! Great jokes aside, I just heard about Telos after your “announcement” on your Tailosive channel. I usually watch your Aptera coverage. I am now very interested in Telo Trucks after discovering how cool and incredibly effective these are at addressing micro mobility/safety concerns (a la Kei trucks). How can I invest? I want in. Thanks for being more awareness to these trucks Drew! I came here from your channel just to subscribe :) looking forward to hearing more from you on Telo 😊
Found this channel yesterday. Really eager to follow your journey! I think you could bring lots of engagement to your channel if you start answering comments under videos about the Hilux Champ and 4 door suzuki chimney. Comments under those videos are all about wanting small trucks for the western markets.
With that folding midgate, this could be the ultimate EV overland rig. Originally I thought it would be the R1T, but this thing could be even better. I hope they make a "camp mode" for HVAC, and make the bed standard enough where camper companies like GFC could easily develop something for it for the ultimate overland/camping rig. Please also consider traction aids (ie lockers, or similar to A-Trac via brakes).
I hope future plans include developing a ERV that people can live in, spacious enough to be comfortable and not feel cramped and affordable in comparison to trying to buy a house at current prices
Apologies to Telo for not including that in my response, as I know the reason. It’s going to become a signature thing over time, which is good. Like the 3 tail light elements on. Mustang. But people are going to call it “The Band Aid”.
I feel very lucky that I found you guys so early in the process. (Obviously you’ve been working for a while but you know what I mean lol) Anyway, thanks for making this truck. Ive been looking for something exactly like this and can guarantee that you have a future costumer!
Drew you’re crushing it. And the whole amped up style of your editing is actually a refreshing departure from you just sitting and giving us the talking head perspective. Now let’s get you some better jeans and stop wearing black (your coloring and that contrast not a good visual match) as a Tesla model 3 owner I’m trying to get my roommate to buy one of these. He’s a surfer and I think this would be a perfect for him. Safety is a great start. What about more visual real world comparisons to other vehicle sizes? Any plans for solar? And a HUGE shout out to Jason for his big smile amazing mind and the focus on building something with true utility and value vs the next tank.
@@Pankratnazar-m1n Ah my bad. Yes, it looks that way because the roll cage model doesn't accurately depict the curvature on the roof line. It pokes up a bit more beyond the cage.
@@Pankratnazar-m1n The test mule is just a powertrain development tool. The actual truck exterior is very similar and overall dimensionally identical to the looks-like buck seen in the background.
Great to see this company moving forward; just wish it was faster! This product is desperately needed in the US market. One thing I think they need to add to their marketing is that the small footprint is not just beneficial in dense cities, but also for maneuvering tight trails in the woods. This will make a great lifestyle vehicle for the “less is more” crowd. Think millennials living in tiny homes.
Drew, y'all will have to come up with a "explain it to me like I'm 5" version of this crumple zone explanation coz not just truck folks, everyone will question the integrity of the lacking long front end. The engineer in me is convinced!!
I'd like to see you guys do a comparison, once a finished prototype is done, against the competition. I think that would be an interesting video itself.
I've been in the market for an electric truck for a while now, but there hasn't been a single one made that really grabs my attention. I placed my reservation for a Telo the very first day I heard about them, and I'm super excited to eventually own one. One of the things that I heard mentioned, was that Telo was aiming to have the same offroad capability of a Toyota Tacoma. Obviously you're a ways off from the production chassis and suspension set up, but I would love to see an off road test of this vehicle to see exactly what it's capable of. I would really love a vehicle that I would be comfortable taking on some trails, nothing crazy like the Rubicon, but some of the off road trails up in Humboldt would be a great place to show off what this thing can do.
Ad slide doors as they will be practical during parking, and self close and opening feature (as your own choice make as a standard or for extra charge)
I currently drive a Model 3. The top vehicles contending to replace it are the Aptera and the R3X. If Telo gets closer to actual production, I'll add it to my short list for sure.
You guys are doing the Lord's work. America needs small EV pickups with brutal utilitarian design.
We just need small trucks in general

Concerning the interior, I have one request: PLEASE don't make everything on a touch panel! There's a reason why they don't do this on planes, and it's instant tactile accessibility. Deep options on the touch panel are awesome, but I want to be able to change cabin temperature, fan speed, and the radio station with a single touch, not navigating a menu. Also, consider user-assignable knobs/buttons, so various users might have access to controls that are important to them.

I think you could bring lots of engagement to your channel if you start answering comments under videos about the Hilux Champ and 4 door suzuki chimney. Comments under those videos are all about wanting small trucks for the western markets.
Super excited for your guys' work!
A great start!
I loved the deep dive into the technical nitty gritty. More of that please!
Nice work Drew and team! Excited to keep following along ✌
I hope future plans include developing a ERV that people can live in, spacious enough to be comfortable and not feel cramped and affordable in comparison to trying to buy a house at current prices
Hey Drew Congratulations ! Love the over all design except the indentation on the doors. Looks like a big dent
It’s funny but true.
I’ve shown images of this to friends/coworkers and virtually every one of them asks “What the hell happened to the door?”
@@bobhellman8676 immediately remained me of a big bandaid right between the doors. 😀
It has a functional advantage as an aerodynamic improvement. We can explain it more later
Apologies to Telo for not including that in my response, as I know the reason.
It’s going to become a signature thing over time, which is good. Like the 3 tail light elements on. Mustang.
But people are going to call it “The Band Aid”.
@4literv6 I found that both BANDAID and CURAD are available in my State if I need a vanity plate.
I feel very lucky that I found you guys so early in the process. (Obviously you’ve been working for a while but you know what I mean lol) Anyway, thanks for making this truck. Ive been looking for something exactly like this and can guarantee that you have a future costumer!
Love the raw and informative format, keep it up!
This is a great idea.
Telo team (incl. Drew!-):
Great work. Keep up the pace and good karma!
1:07 The Test Mule seems to be a bit higher than the demo version on the right. Will the end-product Telo be higher, too?
10 inches of ground clearance for the production model.
@@David_Telo Not the ground clearance, by saying "higher" I mean the roof line.
@@Pankratnazar-m1n Ah my bad. Yes, it looks that way because the roll cage model doesn't accurately depict the curvature on the roof line. It pokes up a bit more beyond the cage.
@@David_Telo So, if the mule serves as the basis for the real truck, the truck is likely be even taller than shown?
@@Pankratnazar-m1n The test mule is just a powertrain development tool. The actual truck exterior is very similar and overall dimensionally identical to the looks-like buck seen in the background.
Can’t wait to get mine.
Love this, good job Drew! Will you still be covering Aptera on Tailosive?
Hi Drew, concrats on the new Job! Great video! I just would consider using clip-on mics so the Audio would be consitent.
They’re on the way!
I wish it had solar. Even only 4-10 miles a day would be a big deal.
Great video Drew, can't wait to hear more about Telo!
I need to see these in action soon. Bring out Jerry rig everything, I think he'd be excited to see this thing.
Love the video! Love the truck! More updates will be amazing.
Don’t love the background music while people are talking/being interviewed 😅.
Would love to see a $30k option one day.. And would be really cool to see the big pill shape on the side go away
I really like this truck
Good luck.
Highly recommended some lavalier mics Drew but other than that I’m super excited!
Ordered a couple they are on the way
Wow this is very exciting! I hope your truck is much more cheap than Rivian. I would absolutely buy it.
Drew, y'all will have to come up with a "explain it to me like I'm 5" version of this crumple zone explanation coz not just truck folks, everyone will question the integrity of the lacking long front end.
The engineer in me is convinced!!
Agreed. We need to explain it better
Looks handy. I would be interested in a two seater model.
You had me at "Telo there." Rofl well played sir
That’s absolutely a big priority! We’ll document as soon as we can how well it does off road
Talk about the interior more and how it will look drew
Awesome I buy
Reserve at www.telotrucks.com
Ad slide doors as they will be practical during parking, and self close and opening feature (as your own choice make as a standard or for extra charge)
If the old shop was on E San Carlos, where is the new one?
this and an aptera would be the dream garage
I currently drive a Model 3. The top vehicles contending to replace it are the Aptera and the R3X. If Telo gets closer to actual production, I'll add it to my short list for sure.
towing! can't wait to hear it ANd what is the. Charge connector? It better be NACS (yes I’m a reservation holder)
Just checked discord.. yippee NACS
Yay Drew and Telo!
So, when exactly are they expecting to offer the truck for sale?
