"...the older books, the 1990's and earlier..." So, the books on my shelves that I bought new. Yep, I've hit crone age. I do enjoy your videos, and take away new info every time. Thank you!
Becca , Only if the library has Pagan/ Witchcraft books in their collection..the local library that's by where I live doesn't have Witchcraft books in their collection
If you like Psychic Witch, you should check out Inner Temple of Witchcraft, the book that inspired Mat Auryn and incidentally the book that introduced me to witchcraft, written by Christopher Penczak. It's an exercise based book like Psychic Witch. It also came out the same year that I began studying witchcraft and I am forever grateful for the foundation that it gave me. And yes, it's technically a "101 book", but even after twenty years I still go back to it in order to brush up on the basics of working with energy and I somehow learn something new every time I read it. It honestly amazes me how that book hasn't become a standard witchcraft 101 book suggestion.
I love Christopher Penczak but books. I have take the first 2 years of the temple of witchcraft course online with chirstopher. Which covers inner temple of witchcraft and outer temple of witchcraft both books are foundational.
As a fellow dyslexic, it is good to know that there are some easier flowing books. I love reading but losing my spot, headaches, and not getting immersed can really ruin the reading experience. Thank you ✨
I don't know what made me decide to start my journey in Witchcraft, but I feel like I was randomly awakened a few days ago and have already purchased 14 books since then and finished 2. I can't wait to add a few of these to my queue. Thank you so much! Love your channel.
Mine started with a catalyst. I was already into it..but to protect myself from toxic draining exes definitely made me call upon my power to banish them lmaoo I'm more into herbal witch craft..but now I'm more inspired to do protection work and banishing witch craft..I'm so motivated to become powerful and gain knowledge.
Im currently reading Scott Cunnigham’s “Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic”, it’s been very useful in better understanding working with crystals. I am following a Wiccan path, and this author is my favorite Wiccan author, but I’d argue it has some very useful info for all kinds of Witches✨🌙
Right in time, I just started learning about witchcraft, you are one of my fave "teacher" in this craft and I'm so happy you did this video. Last week I was doing research about the best books for beginners, but it's very difficult, because finding well writen complex books in my native language (which isn't english, obviously) isn't easy at all...
Both top books are great!! I read them last year & was impressed. Those of you interested in them, be aware that both (more so psychic witch) are full of exercises. This is great IMO, so you can apply what you're reading. Just FYI. Thanks Hearth! Next should be best academic books/ advanced books. I'm reading Entering Hekate's garden by Cyndi Brannen right now & it's full of info for botanicals related to her. Name, genus, parts used, general properties, spiritual properties, physiological properties, magickal properties, planetary correspondences, elemental correspondences, stones, zodiac sign, world & animal. Then there are workings & recipies. A bit of poetry & prayer in there as well. XX
I’m very grateful for this! Your book recommendations are the best, very detailed and in depth enough to get a feel for it. Not to mention I’m drawn to your style of practice as well. I’ve read a couple of ‘beginner modern witchcraft’ books previously and was left disappointed. So this is wonderful. I had a few of your recommendations already in my ‘to read’ pile, so i’m very excited! I also bought the crooked path just now , couldn’t resist!
The crooked path is my favorite book so far. I think I gained more from it than any other book I've read. Keldens take on traditional/ folk witchcraft is really good.
I just had Sorcerers Secrets in my hand, looking through it, in the store TODAY!! a book am planning on purchasing in the VERY NEAR FUTURE, I already have 3 of his books, and after flipping through The Sorcerer's Secrets, I liked it, but alas, I was there to pick up gifts for two members of my family, so I passed up purchasing till in the very near future.😀 I've had The Crooked Path since last year, and just fell in love with the author's writing. It's also nice to see a younger witch sharing beginning witch books that are not the water down versions of what been out the last 13 years. Awesome selections!!!!
I can't thank you enough for this video. I took copious notes. I have a couple of these books. I recently saw The Crooked Path as a new release at our local library and fell absolutely in love with it. It sparked so much inspiration and read so well. The organization of the book was wonderful for me. I purchased it this week so I'm thrilled you recommended it so highly. I'm a solitary practitioner, just increasing my dedicated commitment to the craft after decades of teaching various divination techniques. Being solitary, I don't have a Coven or High Priestess to turn to and ask questions. So I'm looking forward to following your channel for guidance as I to continue to grow on my personal journey of self development. Thank you for offering your intelligent wisdom in this space. I'm now your new and grateful student.
off topic but could you do video on a way to do no waste witchcraft, as a way to take better care of nature. Like I make wire work/ woven jewelry so I save small pieces of copper wire and the odd gemstone bead to use in my spell craft. I also make wall hangings (modern dream catchers, witch bells, sun catchers and other stuff) so I save small length of fibers lace and string, not to mention saving small glass jars, I am almost 60 years old and have only been practicing for a few years. I love your channel.
So glad you finally read Psychic Witch! I knew you'd like it because as soon as I read it I thought, this is exactly what Hearth keeps talking about 🤣 Crooked Path, and Sorcerer's Secrets are both amazing as well. Modern Magick is on my wishlist and now seeing the size of it, I want it even more 🤣
I was so lost about wich books to buy next. As a beginner in the craft, I feel like now a days there's a lot of books coming out about witchcraft but not necessarily all of them are good or have the specific things I'm looking for. And honestly, I don't care if the book looks pretty or not, I want good content. lol So your video really helped me a lot, as always! Thank you so much!
It's great to see a fellow Brit and the younger generation engaging in the Art of Arts. When I first started out some 19 years ago the number of younger folk was quite low. Keep up the hard work🙏
Well worth the effort on your part. When I started out there was no Amazon, nor You tube. I had to travel into London to the Atlantis book shop (historical in itself) and Mysteries which was a large shop with mainly books. Now alas it is no more. There is a tiny little hut on a back street called Mysteries but it doesn’t carry much, just a few crystals and precious little else. Amazon has killed the book shop. I would have been a better practitioner much sooner if I had all this at my fingertips when I was young. I very much agree that energy work is woefully missing from most books. Much of what I know I instinctively found myself, stumbled upon years later than I should or occasionally was guided to. The wasted years I could have progressed much more in, if all this had been available. I have some of the books you recommended already. Modern Magic, D.M.K got me into the ceremonial stuff. Very well organised and set out making the whole subject much more accessible to the new reader. Sadly now deceased DMK died of pancreatic cancer same as my father. The only thing I would add as a recommendation would be to add to that book would be a reading of Israel Regardie to complement and tweet some of DMK’s techniques. Regardie is neither an easy nor accessible read but well worth the effort for someone who is studying the practices and not just reading them. Regardie offers some real gems but you have to dig for them and know what you are looking for. practicing DMK gives you that knowledge to refine your practice by reading Regardie in my personal experience. However, many I am sure that many just stick with the big book. I am also reading your recommendations because you are very similar to my approach and are hitting on stuff I wish I had read when I started but these books hadn’t been written then. Filling in the gaps and rounding out my somewhat idiosyncratic magical experience. I think you have done an excellent job and there will be loads of better practitioners around in the future because of your efforts. Many thanks to you.
Not sure if you'll even see this but I just have to say that I am absolutely loving listening to you. I watched your video in how to know if a source on witchcraft is a good one since I am really feeling pulled toward the path and have for some time on and off. I don't like long videos. But you are so easy to listen to that it's a true pleasure. Having watched only 2 of your videos I can honestly say I am a huge fan and am so excited to watch more content! I'm a big bookie and I never have enough books so this was just so satisfying and thrilling to watch!! 🖤💜💫
Finished Crooked Path and Psychic Witch recently. Both are great. I want to go back over them a little slower but I'm on a book feast right now. Almost finished Scottish Witchcraft which has really drawn me in.
As someone who also has dislexia, I really appreciate your perspective on the Crooked Path and I’m excited to read it. You also have a wealth of information and perspectives that are crucial for baby witches to become well rounded. Thank you ❤
Great video! The Crooked Path and Psychic Witch were two of my favorite books of 2019/2020! I started my path in the 90’s and I don’t remember any books available on traditional witchcraft so I’ve really enjoyed The Crooked Path. Psychic Witch is the book I wish I’d had back then when I was a new witch.
Thanks for (re?)making this!! I am such a studier, I've accumulated so many books in just over a year ... I've def been disappointed by fancy, well-starred, Insta-trendy witch books, so I learned quickly to ONLY buy witchy books recommended by witches I respect - you are #1 on that list!
Brilliant list! I have a bad habit of continually reading beginner books, without transitioning forward. However, there's a comfort in familiarity. I'm definitely ready to push myself beyond what I'm comfortable with. I did just order The Crooked Path a few months ago, and it's been sitting on my bookcase. I'm excited to pull it out and give it a read. I think it would be fun for you to do a list of books for those of us that have moved past entry level, and are comfortably tucked into our journeys. I've been so busy teaching others entry level information, I would like to have a better grasp on moving forward.
I appreciate you so much Hearth! The fact that you go through so much work to make sure we get good, concise and useful information is just amazing! I'm so happy I found you on this platform!
Just found your channel. Really enjoy the beginner videos. Been wanting to read about witchcraft but didn't know where to start. Have a whole list of books to read/listen to. Thanks!
Modern Magick is a great intro to actual Ceremonial Practice, much as Crooked Path is to Trad Witchcraft. Psychic Witch I think is the middle ground from where u can go either way.
Thanks for all your research! I appreciate your hard work and recommendations. I'll probably go for your two main recommendations not being into too much ceremony. I'm interested in history, but for now, just want to consolidate my own practice ( or I'll get overwhelmed 😄). Thanks ❤ Love & Light xx
SiSTAR, your knowledge base is truly incredible !!! My mom gave me a love for books, and my curiosity of everything brings me to wonderful, Magickal places through them. I can’t wait to pick up Psychic Witch and The Crooked Path, and Maybe Modern Magick. Thanks for all you you’ve done for this video. Wow, what a lot of points to remember. I’m so thankful for your gifts and for teaching us how you do your craft. Blessings and much love 💕
I have been binge watching your videos for 3 days now! I love your knowledge and might want to become a witch now. I’ve always had a weird sense of connection with the earth and something else I couldn’t put a name on. When I was younger my grandma thought I was a witch bc I would talk to the ceiling in my room and claimed that they were people that wanted to share things with me or ancestors. I would also make so many potions outside and give them to the sun. Not sure if that was an every kid thing but anyways🤣 I really enjoy ur videos and I am now reconnecting with my younger self/creative mind that I have lost touch with bc of how u have to behave in society growing up. Thank you SOO MUCH for ur videos they help us a lot!❤️❤️
A good resource for second hand books is world of books for witches based in the UK. I bought all of mine from there. Saves money and planet. (Plus they have that awesome old book smell).
Thank you for this well-researched and sensible book list! I appreciate your diligence and explanations of what you liked and didn’t like and, importantly, WHY. Looks like I have a few books to add to my pile!
I happily have already purchased "A Crooked Path" but haven't started it yet. I look forward to reading it and I thought I heard Kelden is writing a second book. Guess I should try Besom, Stang & Sword also.
You're pronouncing Paul Huson's name correctly. Paul is practically my neighbor and he's still going strong. "Mastering Witchcraft" was the first book on the Craft I ever read. I also recommend his books on Tarot (he has designed his own deck as well) and magical herbalism. If you find any of his older books, GUARD THEM WITH YOUR LIFE. They are obscenely expensive for the average witch. But also be grateful the knowledge is still there in affordable reprints. It's interesting to read in Russell's books where he states the Church's attitude toward witchcraft changed after the first millennium when they abandoned Platonist philosophy (which recognized good witches) to Aristotelian (which did not). Hence, the witch craze. You have made excellent choices in your recommendations of books. Keep the great videos coming!
The recommendation books at each chapter is worth the book alone although I love the book to. It's helped me alot giving me a great in depth how to do crystal ball divination love it
Another good book for Ceremonial Magick is The Magician's Workbook by Donald Tyson. Very good. I would say a practionioner would benefit from reading it along with Kraig's Modern Magick.
Tons of great information. Thank you! Of course, I had to subscribe just based on the outtakes alone -- and before taking into account all the good, solid information in the first 48 minutes!
I just got the the Modern Magick book and I wa am so surprised to see this on your list but happy to see it there as well as the crooked path. Love your videos you give great advice and a lot of information and research into what you are discussing
I loved this video so gosh darn much and written down Almost ALL of the books you mentioned. I will most definitely be getting them, if and or when I Can. Thankyou Lovely young Lady!
Hearth, I just want to thank you for your generosity with your wisdom. As of Imbolc, I've been practicing for a year and you are by far my favorite TH-cam witch because of your lengthy and thorough videos. I feel like I've been enrolled in a course and you are the professor. Thank you again. ❤😊
Thank you incredibly much for this post, now you never have to read so many newbies books 😉 I enjoy your posts a lot, your are truly a beautiful person ✨ Love you 🤩 Nothing is wrong with you definitely, you can do this 😁
This is LITERALLY what I have been looking for! ☺️ I’ve read all my books I have and have been yearning to find new ones that I can continue to read and learn new things from because I love books. So thank you! This was amazing 🖤
Thanks for all the research and time you put into this video, Hearth! I've been looking for more witchcraft books that aren't basic or Wicca based. I'm adding Modern Magic and The Crooked Path to my wishlist!
You are absolutely my favorite witch!!! I love you’re way of explaining, your guidance, style and attitude!! LOL!!! 😂😂😂 If you ever decide to do an online Witch School coven somewhere along your journey, I’m signing up to be your apprentice! 😁😁😁
OMG this is exactly what I've been waiting for! 😱 Thank you so much for sharing these books with us! I've been wanting some of these but just wasn't sure which ones were for me. 🤔🤷♀️ I just put The Crooked Path, Psychic Witch, Besom Stang and Sword, and The Sorcerer's Secrets in my Amazon cart! 🙋♀️ I absolutely love your videos and your style of teaching! 🤩💜💯❗
I love this and have ordered some of these! For Ceremonial Magic, particularly high magic and bibliophiles, I'd go look at the Foolish Fish channel. He looks at lots of esoteric books and principles. I feel like ceremonial magic is quite a specific and different path. Maybe not for beginners (always) but a lovely humble approach.
I've just finished reading it and it's brilliant! Really covers all the basics. I've been curious about witchcraft for a while but have only just started learning about it last year. A lot of the energy aspects I was already familiar with from having mediumistic abilities. I did read it cover to cover first. I'm now going through the book again to do the exercices. 10/10
Love this list! I'm currently reading/ working through Raymond Buckland's Big Blue Book. But Psychic Witch is definitely on my tbr pile and now I'll add The Crooked Path too
I'm not sure how I feel about witchcraft as something that I would practice, but I do love to learn about it. I really appreciate the recommendations. I'm always hesitant to buy witchcraft books in the bookstore because a lot of them seem to focus on spells and crystals, and I want to read something more about the practice in general than specific little things.
I just got the Crooked Path. I guess I made a good choice for my first book and intro to witchcraft. Maybe I'll check out Besom, Stang, and Sword in the future because I'm in North America
Today I bought 'A sea witches Companion'. Which is one of your recommendations if that is my interest or what draws me, it drew me. And also the little book of moon magic by Sarah Bartlet.
It is so funny. I am considering buying psychic witch after I am done with my current witchcraft book for some time now and lately it is everywhere. I am also thinking about starting a recommendation system for books in my BOS to keep track of the books I am interested in and why.
Great video!! I have The Crooked Path. My recent purchases are Magick Book IV by Aleister Crowley, Quareia, all three hardcover volumes by Josephine McCarthy, Gems From the Equinox (Instructions by Aleister Crowley), selected by Israel Regardie, The Red Book, both large size and Reader's edition, by Carl Jung, and Luciferian Witchcraft, by Michael Ford.
"...the older books, the 1990's and earlier..." So, the books on my shelves that I bought new. Yep, I've hit crone age. I do enjoy your videos, and take away new info every time. Thank you!
Don't forget to support your local library if you can ✨❤️🤓
💜💜💜
my town is christian XD there are no books in witchcraft. closest thing to spirituality is bibles
I've been going to the library lately but dont like the 👀s, at my book titles. But it's free!
There are Christian witches too. (Also, inter-library loan exists, at least in the US!)
Becca , Only if the library has Pagan/ Witchcraft books in their collection..the local library that's by where I live doesn't have Witchcraft books in their collection

I would love to take a class from her! She’s so knowledgeable and so easy to understand.
I'd like that, too! It would have to be online because I live in the United States and she's in England.
very much yes
Oh yes. Me too! So would love it.

I watch alot of videos getting to understand other people's opinions but your videos are much more educational and I so far enjoy your videos the most
Brilliant list!
❤
Thanks for all your research! I appreciate your hard work and recommendations. I'll probably go for your two main recommendations not being into too much ceremony. I'm interested in history, but for now, just want to consolidate my own practice ( or I'll get overwhelmed 😄). Thanks ❤ Love & Light xx
37:04 I also very much prefer older (pre Silver Ravenwolf, although I do have one of hers) books. Early 90’s and before.
Don't mind me, just rewatching another great video of yours. Thank you hearth witch!!
❤
The Crooked Path is such an amazing book! The 10/10 is well deserved. 🖤
❤
You're my favourite witch TH-camr I learn a lot from you ❤
I have been binge watching your videos for 3 days now!
BEING A PRACTISING WITCH ! MY GREETINGS UNTO YOU HEARTWITCH ! BLESSED BE !
Thank you ♎ I can't wait to start ordering my books
I have been giving the Crooked Path as a gift lately for those looking to take up the craft
❤
Just ordered The Crooked Path. It is one of the books I recently looked at and wish listed but now with your review I have ordered.
The recommendation books at each chapter is worth the book alone although I love the book to. It's helped me alot giving me a great in depth how to do crystal ball divination love it
Just picked up The Crooked Path and I’m so excited! Thank you for these recommendations ❤
The blooper reel at the end is so entertaining! 😍
One book I really liked was Spellcrafting book from the same author who wrote the favorite Green Witch book.
Your video was very helpful because you explained and summarized the most important points in each book in a short and concise way!
Thank you very much, I’m reading psychic witch now
Thank you incredibly much for this post, now you never have to read so many newbies books 😉 I enjoy your posts a lot, your are truly a beautiful person ✨ Love you 🤩 Nothing is wrong with you definitely, you can do this 😁
*furiously writing notes* thanks for the recs!!
Just brought the crooked path, yep really love it.
This is LITERALLY what I have been looking for! ☺️ I’ve read all my books I have and have been yearning to find new ones that I can continue to read and learn new things from because I love books. So thank you! This was amazing 🖤
I just purchased the crooked path, love it.
Your information is SO HELPFUL! I LOVE your videos. Thank you!!!
Read The Heathen A Viking Grimoire of Norse Sorcery. I've never read it, but it sounds fantastic.
I have Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn I love it. Got it from watching this TH-cam video.
Yes!!! I Absolutely LOVE used books📚 ❤🤗
I'm actually reading psychic witch at the moment.
Same!!!
I have it, and like Hearth, I really like how energy is the main focus, which is exactly how I work and how I experience energy.
I loved that book! 💜
What do you think about this book?
Best book on sigil magick.i love sigils because they are easy to use and very effective
Love this list!
I'm currently reading/ working through Raymond Buckland's Big Blue Book.
But Psychic Witch is definitely on my tbr pile and now I'll add The Crooked Path too
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to find a majority of the ones that interested me on Amazon.
I always recommend Gemma Gary, Rachel patterson and Kate west for easy looking at English witchcraft. Great summary
Also love professor huttons books
I just started the craft and I currently and reading Psychic Witch and I’m loving it.
I'm not sure how I feel about witchcraft as something that I would practice, but I do love to learn about it. I really appreciate the recommendations. I'm always hesitant to buy witchcraft books in the bookstore because a lot of them seem to focus on spells and crystals, and I want to read something more about the practice in general than specific little things.
lol I think the outro was as much fun as the whole video!!! Love you so much! :D
