The C2 is incredible considering how cheap these are. I think it just compares to the rest, it's just a little different, like all of them are.
    Good comparison, thanks! 👍🏻

the beringer mic is surprisingly good given its price

In my opinion the Oktava wins - well ablanced sound. C2 and NT5 are a bit too harsh, P170 sounds like a dynamic microfone, the ovid sounds a bit "slow" in terms of transient response.

Yes I agree. I liked the Ovid but I couldn't find any for sale. It was a useful video though as without it, I may have bought the AKGs; but they were poor in comparison. A big thumbs up for the Behringers at that price!

Hey Ondra, you legend! I was looking for some review on the Ovid and there you are! I know I'm a bit late to this party, but anyway, good stuff.
For its price, I'd say the Ovid sounds surprisingly good. Not my favourite in this test at all, but seen as it is a cheap gooseneck clip on that I can sub in for my DPA 4099 on messy, beer soaked gigs, it's a winner.
My ratings as for the actual comparison:
    Guitar - Oktava, hands down.
Mandolin - Rode NT5, closely followed by the Oktava.
Fiddle - Rode NT5. Very crisp and clear sound. Although, I also really like the warmer tone of the Oktava.
It is difficult to point out a clear overall winner here. The Rode NT5 and the Oktava are both superb mics. However, I didn't like the NT5 on guitar at all. For mandolin and fiddle the NT5 has a slight edge, but you wouldn't go wrong with the Oktava.
I must also say that I'm very impressed by the Behringer C2 considering the price tag. So if you're on a tight budget, that would be a great option.
    Great playing, as always!

Hi Mikael! Long time no see, missing the great jam session with you and your crew :-( The mic quality of the Ovid is OK (well, it's great for the price) but the shock mount is not very good. Expect some handling noise (the hammer-ons can be heard as booms) when you use a long gooseneck. I'm happy with it on mandolin - short gooseneck, mic very close to the instrument - but I didn't figure out how to use it on guitar.

I'm so torn between the Oktava and Rode because, while the Rode had more high-end detail, I couldn't tell how much that brightness was sweetening the actual tone of the guitar. I tend to prefer a more "vintage" style sound, but that's the type of thing you might be able to compensate for with just a little EQing on the NT5, but sometimes there's a brittle character that lingers even after you EQ.
It's interesting how close the P170 sounded to the Oktava, but it really lacked the high end detail of the other mics. Surprisingly, I think they all could probably make for a thoroughly competent recording once you finish mixing.
    Very cool demo.

The Oktava MK-012 has available hyper cardioid capsules for film audio, so it's the winner for me. The omni capsule for them is also quite neutral. The NT5 omni capsule has a HUGE high frequency boost.

The Rode is too shrill. The p170 to dull on the high end

Thanks for your video demo. For me the best one was the most expensive one i.e. Rode NT5, followed by Oktava Mk..... and ending with the cheaper one Behringer C2.

I am hardly searching for someone with similar results :D Yeap, NT5 also sounds best to me (interested mainly in acoustic guitar) ;) .... and those C2 mikes are just good for the price, but otherwise....

The Oktava is not as good as I had hoped - the frequency response sounds uneven. The NT5 is clearly better. But I'm surprised at how good the Behringer is, considering the price.

the real question is, wich one sounds more natural to you? you are the only one that has that feedback. There is people saying this one is more balanced or the other. You really can't tell if you don't know the original source. Assuming the NT5 is the better mic, to me the closest one to that sound is the akg p170.

Hi, no effects were used so my guess is that my instruments might have more lows or the proximity effect plays its role here. Thanks for watching. C2s rock :)

The NT5 sounded more accurate to my ears. Some will see it as to harsh or bright, but that's just simply because its resolving more detail. I'd rather have the resolution and then smooth things in post edit than a Mic that's already mushed the detail.
These instruments are bright naturally with sharp transients.

  •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Ahoj Ondro, poctivě jsem vše poslechl, budu si ale asi muset dát sluchátka abych postřehl nějaký podstatný rozdíl. Vyšel tobě z toho nějaký vítěz a doporučení? Nechci být Hujer, ale Ti Kytaristi, Mandolinisti a Houslisti v testu jsou lepší jak ty mikrofóny.
Ale vážně Ondro: Může ten test zveřejnit na svém hudebním blogu?

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Strongly disagree :D :D :D :D ...... Seems we are listening to a different video :D NT5 one of the best, but I am (not disappointed.... for this price it is really a good toy) not fun of these C2.... they are totally loosing low freqs and are harsh in the high freqs.....
there is no room and no body..... all these things are not recoverable in SW however the NT5 can be easily tamed with EQ as it has the information :)
