Interesting Fact: In an August 2011 interview with Songfacts, lead singer Jon Foreman explained the inspiration for "Stars":
"I'm always looking to find order within the chaos. And sometimes when my life gets fairly chaotic, I'll take a walk outside. And in this one particular instance, I remember I'd driven off into the desert and was looking up at the stars. I had a pretty good view away from the city lights out in the high desert, and I remember thinking about the order and the perfection of galaxies of planets in orbit and traveling around space and thinking how chaotic the wars and divorces and riots on our planet must look from outer space. So that's where the song began."
In another interview, Foreman said that "Stars" is about perspective, a song about stepping back in the midst of chaos and looking at the stars; the idea of anti-entropy, implying there must be something keeping the world together. "The first verse looks at things from Descartes perspective, pinning the center of the universe on the individual. 'Maybe I've been the problem,' maybe I'm overcast, falling apart, etc... The second verse talks about our world from the perspective of the stars looking down on earth from the eternal dance of gravity and motion."

I'm from Bangladesh and I used to listen to this all the time when I was in 3rd/4th grade without understand anything they're saying except "stars." I didn't had the permission to use the internet so searching for the lyrics was not an option for me back then. My goal was to learn the whole lyrics when I grow up.

You don't have to be religious. It's all about our own personal and spiritual relationship with the Father God through Jesus Christ. The minute you repent of your sins and put your faith in Christ you will receive Holy Spirit and a change of heart and oh man.. it's the greatest feelings you could possibly have to be loved and saved by the Creator :)

hands down, switchfoot is the best christian rock band around. their lyrics resonate to many people and their sound is hard to beat. watched the fading west video, and you get a sense of how these guys really are. they go to places and music concerts(death metal concerts) to reach out to people. that's just amazing! switchfoot come to walla walla, washington!

The 1st song I downloaded from the band he album version,nothing is sound, is more rocking intro ,which makes it one of the best Christian rock and rock opening songs I heard. This Switchfoot song, like other songs off of "Nothing Is Sound", is notably harder and heavier compared to those off of "The Beautiful Letdown". "Nothing Is Sound" was considered to be a post-grunge/hard rock album by some listeners. Their addition of one more guitarist could be a factor, as this is the first Switchfoot single to be recorded with Drew Shirley being their new member.
