I want to make a video compilation of all the amazing jokes that Dusty casually makes that get completely swept under the rug. It's literally once an episode. He's gotta be the best free agent signing in podcast history. O.J might not be a killer, but Dusty totally slays!

Last week, I was staying in a hotel with my family. We went to the lobby for breakfast and low and behold, next to the waffle iron was two dispensers, one for batter and the other for syrup.
I was working with my wife to keep the kids under control and get the waffles made. With all the distractions, I nearly poured the syrup right in there. Had it not been for the story about Bates, we would have had a catastrophe. You're saving lives, gentlemen. This truly is an educational podcast

When I was little, my dad told me that Horse Flies bend their knees and snap them quickly to thump you. Never using an ounce of critical thinking, I believed it up until more recently than I'd like to admit. Luckily I don't think I ever voiced this belief in a conversation about horse flies, but one day I was walking at a summer camp and saw one land on my shoulder. I stopped in my tracks and looked at him for a good 10 seconds before I finally processed the fact that they bite; they don't thump.

Nate got the correct answer the wrong way. At some point he said it would take 5000 ants to cover your shoe and in reality that number is more like 100. Some math and facts:
A generic ant is 1/8 of an inch tall, which is 0.3 centimeters.
The average human is 66 inches tall, which is 167.6 centimeters.
So if you divide the size of a human in centimeters by the size of an ant in centimeters, a human is roughly 558.666667 the size of an average black ant.
Account for surface area and maybe multiply that number by 2-3 heck even 10 and it's still only a few thousand ants at most to cover an entire human body.
Additionally, one of the most painful bites a human can experience is a bullet ant. It can cause nerve damage at the site of the bite.
Finally, like Aaron mentioned, some people have allergies to ants. Apprx 30 people a year die in the US alone from fire ants (the existing dumb version).
The ants would absolutely destroy us and it's laughably one-sided. The only hope would be as Dusty and Aaron described in that maybe the ants would turn against themselves. But honestly I think that would just eliminate the weaker ants and with their reproductive cycles we'd just be facing an upgraded army of super ants in a matter of a month. So still RIP human race.

The discussion about celebrity golf and Nate's past joke regarding being the "celebrity" for celebrity golf reminded me of something I encountered this summer. My husband's name is Nolan Ryan. This past summer my mom had booked a Motel in a small town in Montana for my husband and me because we were attending my brother's wedding. I was calling to check about check in times, office hours, etc. since it was a mom and pop type place. When I called the front desk, a very friendly man probably in his 50s-60s answered the phone. He asked me the name the reservation was made under and I said probably my husband, "Nolan Ryan". There was a very long pause on the phone, before I could let the man get his hopes up any longer I finally stated "Not that Nolan Ryan". He was completely deflated, but he tried to cover it up by saying, "well maybe someday". And all I could say was, 'yeah, he (meaning my husband) gets that a lot'.

I did some math. Ants weigh on average 1 to 5 mg meaning it would take 27,215,520 ants (3mg) on average to make up the weight of an average human (180lbs). That's far more than 2.5 million, but ants can also coordinate at some pretty sophisticated levels. Combine the human intelligence, ants' innate ability to coordinate, and the fact that they can already lift up to 20 times their own body weight you're looking at a mass that can lift up to 3,600lbs per human equivalent. So the question becomes: Can 735 million human sized ant masses, that can lift 3,600lbs each, defeat 8 billion humans, the most elite of whom can lift 1,200lbs? Assuming an average human can carry their own weight we can carry a total of around 1.4 trillion pounds whereas ants can carry a total of 2.6 trillion pounds. Plus, they all bite and some of them are venomous. Ants win.

the ants vs humans conversation epitomizes what this podcast is all about. a couple of thoughts to add to the discussion - humans using powerful vacuums which lead to some type of furnace to incinerate the ants?? also, ants are so lightweight that they float on water.. giving them the option to create body bridges to reach us wherever we try to hide.

Hey, Blood Blister- couple of things.
Can you please clear this up for everyone. When Dusty said “Your wife is a Ho.” I don’t think he was talking about his step mom. I think he was trying to say that his father is implying that about HIS wife when he makes comments about “You don’t know what happens when you aren’t here.” Am I right, Dust Flap?
Also- throw back to dinosaurs…. My son told me that wings are made from hollow bones that usually break down before they can fossilize. For this reason, some researchers suggest that ALL dinosaurs had feathers and wings (aka- Dragons)

Hello folks, I’m a huge fan of the podcast and have been with you guys since episode 3 came up in my feed many moons ago. I heard you guys mention Pluto and Goofy and it reminded me of this:
Goofy - wears clothes, walks on two legs, talks, drives a car and lives in his own house
Pluto- lives tied up behind Mickey’s house, eats from a bowl with his name on it and barks
However they are both dogs and appear to even be the same breed.

I understand what Aaron means about the ant lifespan. Let's say this war goes on beyond the average lifespan of an ant. Who would go to fight a war knowing before they ever left that the absolute best case scenario is they die a week later. And that's not even considering the fact that the ants would have morals and ethics now and may feel differently about sending their children off to war.

You have to take the ant debate to its worst case scenario. 3 or 4 bites from Bullet ants would cause incapacitating pain and the ability to fight back would be out of the equation. Even with Fire ants, enough bites would have a high chance of inducing a histamine reaction to the venom possibly leading to asphyxiation and death. I’ve thought about this a lot and I’m not even sure why.

There's a lot of deadly insects in this episode, but you don't touch on the ancient Persian method of punishment called "The Boats."
The person being punished would be trapped between two boats with their arms and legs exposed in a swamp. They were force-fed milk and honey daily until they were eaten by bugs. Sometimes the bugs would even nest inside them. It's worth looking up.
    I'll go proofread this now.

A coordinated sneak attack on food resources and electrical systems would give the ants a huge overnight advantage…

Poor country kids had to use whatever they had to entertain themselves.
We flew June bugs on a string and lit full ticks up with matches to watch them explode when their blood boiled.
    Fun times.

I gotta wonder if half the people writing letters in to the show, are making up names to hear Nate try to pronounce them?!! Lol! 😂

Like Nate I had a hard time getting into Ozark as well and actually stopped after the first season I did not go back for several years.
Another one was Better Call Saul. I did the same thing trying to watch the first season but could not get into it it came back a few years later and watch them all.

If Nate did get to hang with Jason Bateman & Will Arnett in Pebble Beach, maybe he finagled a spot on their podcast Smartless?! (My second favorite pod- after Nateland, of course!)
