I am Proud of my band for stepping up the live performances that will lead us into the new year with real recordings, and with the help of the info you keep adding in this channel. Thanks, Joe
FC670 is the famous Fair Child 670 with constant attack/release, you can read manual and find out how many ms it is for every position. This is a great comp for your type of music.
I just wish they made a way to make your own bundle and purchase that way where you could get what you want but still have a bundle price. Cool to see what you are using it on.
I know this is the Idiots guide, which is why i find it kinda funny when he pulled up the pulltech-ish one and didn't know what the controls actually do. I love when the only thing that matters when using a tool is how it sounds instead of what it does. good Job man!
The FC 670 is an emulation of a Fairchild 670 to my knowledge. The Tube P1B is an emulation of a Pultec CL 1B. Both of this compressors are iconic ones in the industry.
That song is now the de-facto Presonus theme isn't it? Joe, I Was wondering what the advantage was to using a fat channel compared to just a stack of individual Gate / Compressor / EQ / Limiter? Is there something else a fat channel add to a mix? Thanks
I love using the waves version with the midside mode for mastering. I ussually have the meters just barely moving bit the circutry emulation and sound of the unit do somthing unique and just having in that mode working slightly helps with a wider, yet still tight stereo image.
Do you know if you should use the fat channel (gate, comp, eq) in the recording phase for tracks ? I have had pretty good success with this approach because different instruments have good presets but now I am learning about mixing and there is quite a bit of cleaning and boosting volume in certain frequencies. thanks
Joe, you have a great channel! Now, about the key filters on the compressors, it looks to me that this behave like a band pass filter more than a high pass filter, especially when you listen to the key filter. Is my statement true?
Not worth the money if only using as plugins in your Daw. Get Waves or sumn...But I can see how It could be SUPER WORTH IT when used in conjunction with a StudioLive Mixer on Channels before signal hits your Daw. Most Definetly.
I asked another engineer if setting vu meter before recording vocals so there will be no clipping for a better vocal recording. I would love to hear how you would do this if possible. And I love the way you say I don't care hahaha.
Hey Joe thanks for all the presonus tips. In watching this video I'm wondering, what is the advantage / reason why someone would reach for one of these plug in 3-4 band EQs rather than simply using the stock parametric fat channel EQ on the Studiolive 32 iii mixer. Do the plug in EQs just sound different? Benefits? Same question goes for the compressors rather than the stock compressor.
Im not an expert. But I would say that some eqs sound different. But I havent got the chance to prove that, I only know that the TDR Nova sound different from the Pro-Q in Studio One Artist. But also, its good to not have the visual aid sometimes, it forces you to listen. Also, they look cool...
This is really good information and I'm glad presonus offers this but I would not pay what their asking for it. I would invest that into waves or UAD. I feel like the direct modeling/ analog, tube, transistor modeling, and ability to add the analog noise allow you to push them harder and emulate the sounds that you would expect from the original pieces which helps me achieve the hybrid sound I want. Having used the fat channel and heard these new options I feel like your money would be better spent on waves or UAD as I think you will get more versatility and better sounds overall. Stock plugins are good and have their place. I use alot of presonus' stock plug ins in my mixes but I don't feel like these add ons are a good investment for anyone looking into getting new plugins
Hey Joe thanks for the description of the plugins got a question , why all compressors and EQ why don't they have any other simple effects like a chorus o a flanger a phaser or tremolo and others like some other consoles just curious are they not that useful unless you're playing live?
would be cool if they had a Rent-To-Own plan. Many many companies are going this route because plugins are very very very expensive these days. You got really really lucky to get that plugins package for free. I would love to get it, but its a bit too rich for my blood right now. :/
On the contrary. Plugins are a lot more affordable now than they used to be. And the quality of the free/cheap ones has really stepped up. An alternative to the Presonus bundle would be the IK T-Racks 5 MAX bundle which is really good and if you catch it on a sale it's also very cheap.
I thought the plug in collection that came with the series iii Mixers showed on the desk touch screen?? Anyone have a video explains how to set this up? Working on the DAW fine...not on desk screen..Thanks
Yeah, you should definitely learn the products you’re trying to promote. Wtf? Most of your videos are just you saying you basically don’t know how to use the stuff you’re showing, and getting names wrong. In one video, you were looking for a threshold knob on the 1176 emulation! One person had a question about using outboard gear with the Studiolive and your reply was “sure, a mixer is a mixer”. Again, wtf dude? Not every mixer is the same, especially when the series three studiolive doesn’t have inserts jacks on any track like the older studiolive consoles, so you have to try to route through one of the other outputs and back in somehow. You ARE “totally dropping the ball” and making excuses for yourself the entire video. The whole aaah, it doesn’t really matter approach is not very professional when you’re representing a company that’s giving you free shit, so you will at least try to learn it and get people hyped. I can tell you’ve mixed yourself as well, because you’re a little too interested in your own voice rather than the overall mix, so the snare sample is buried behind the half assed vocal. Someone like Drew Brashler is killing it with a less than desirable product like the X32, while you’re trying to fake it till you make it with some of the best products on earth. Giant fail!
I am Proud of my band for stepping up the live performances that will lead us into the new year with real recordings, and with the help of the info you keep adding in this channel. Thanks, Joe
I just so happened to open this last night and I love it. I’m gonna get some addons for it as well

I’m about to use these for Pro Tools!
This Fat Channel XT concept make me want to move Studio One

That song is awesome 💥💯
This API-550 GUI is the ugliest UI that I found on a plugin. But still, nice work here, I like your way to pick plugins.
Great Video, can you use this with the mixer by itself for live?
Not sure if you’ve figured this out by now, but I use these on my StudioLive 16r for church services. They translate to Capture and then to StudioOne
TH-cam channel Dr. Mix does a demo on Fairchild compressor. It is definitely worth checking out.

Man you should try the comp 160 on kick and snare channel. It sounds bombastic.
Hey Joe, how come when I open my fat channel, the modules open horizontally, not vertically like that 🤔? By the way, the RC500 is awesome!

If I could afford studio 1 I would use it. It looks pretty cool. Reaper it is for me, though I love reaper and all the videos they have to help you.
Studio one prime is free
Do you use the FAT channel for mastering as well?
Is there a way to control the Fat Channel with hardware like ATOM or FADERPORT V2?

You should try Airwindows plugins , I think they will surprise Your for the positive side in very different ways.
The everest is modelled after summit audio i guess 😅

Joe....everybody loves PreSonus and You
Helios and the 670 are used on everything.

I believe that there is a rent to own
Do you need to have a SL mixer for these to work in S1?
No
They look like nice copies
I thought the plug in collection that came with the series iii Mixers showed on the desk touch screen?? Anyone have a video explains how to set this up? Working on the DAW fine...not on desk screen..Thanks
These should be individual plugins too
Hey Joe, Where can I get the desk like yours?
Was $499...now $149!

I love Studio One but damn Presonus GUI looks ugly and dated. Take notes from Logic, Ableton or UAD Luna
I love the GUI personally, but I'm biased. 😊
If you don't care don't expect us to care about your review. Try a different profession.
joe cant make up his mind if he's a funny guy or just a smart ass,,,
Can these be used as individual plugins and not part of that rack system?
