100% Facts. we need a man of steel trilogy or more. whether in or out the synderverse is of no consequence. this movie had the superman of our generation AND the best Zod and Kryptonian army
Zod is one of my favorite movie villians,he only wants to rebuild his long destroyed planet, but,at the cost of earth ( huge plot hole,Zod had our entire solar system to chose a planet from ) OOPS. LOL.
This is one of the reasons why this movie is so good: you can understand Zod's motivations and frustrations, he is fighting to protect HIS people, hence the movie's conflict is all the more interesting and complex because of that. It's not as simple as "good vs bad". Its a clash of heroes, a clash of titans, and a clash of ideals (freedom vs planned society).
I will honour the man you once were, Zod. Not this monster you've become. This actually shows that Jor-El and Zod were friends which makes it so much more tragic
Whats more tragic is that Jor became the monster and Zod was the saving force of Krypton. Jor whiped out Krypton with Superman. Otherwise, Earth would be Krypton 2.

I love how the starting sequence of the song sort of 'mimics' a part of superman's theme--kind of like expressing they are two different but similar people
Yeah I did wanna evoke the feeling that Zod is Superman gone wrong, that they were born from many similar elements, on a far away planet, yet zod is the monstrous side of the coin that is Krypton.
The music that starts at 8:18 is beautiful not gonna lie. Hans delves into the emotional aspect of the character as you feel what he feels. He does this for his people.
2:20 to 3:33 is one of the, if not *the* best piece of music from Man of Steel. Truly beautiful and fitting for Zod. I remember when I heard that the first time in the MoS trailer back in 2013, still gives me the chills everytime I watch it. Thanks for uploading.
Every time I listen to this, I have to listen to 8:16 to the end twice cause that is my favorite part of the song. The music makes you feel nothing but sympathy for Zod. My only wish was that it could've been a little longer.
Yeah, cause of the nature of the piece I saw no descent way to stretch it sorry. But yeah Zod definitely, pretty much literally embodies the tragedy of his people, trapped in the massive design flaw of omitting choice in one's destiny.. Man of Steel was brilliant.
@106767988740599159842 It really is. What's sad is that I'm the only person in my family that loved the film. My sister hated it cause she felt the action was too long and unnecessary (guess she liked watching Superman do nothing but lift things and getting his ass kicked by Kevin Spacey in Superman Returns), and my parents thought the action was too intense and didn't like that Superman kills. I guess they're still expecting a Christopher Reeves Superman film. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Reeves-Donner films, but in my opinion this was the Superman film I had been waiting for. The action sequences made me nostalgic cause it reminded me of the animated series that I loved watching as a kid (and DBZ, maybe Snyder and Nolan will give us the Dragonball film we deserve). Also, I was really impressed with Russell Crowe's portrayal of Jor El and Michael Shannon's portrayal of Zod. I'm really looking forward to the next film.
wcw2793 I'm totally with you on Man of Steel (my family loves it along with me, but I do feel like most people seem to hate it), but I'm quite concerned about the next movie. I was hoping for Superman to have a kind of trilogy of his own (I know, I know, we already see way too many sequels and whatnot, but this is the Superman I've been waiting to see) before introducing him to the other superheroes, or at least the first two are before that. The second movie I was hoping would introduce a proper Lex Luthor, the charismatic businessman as opposed to the genius mad scientist. He's obviously Superman's most elemental enemy, and their conflict is the most interesting aspect of Superman, that he must defeat him with kindness rather than his boundless strength. The Donner films explore this to some extent, but it misses a very important element: Lex Luthor must have a sway on the public, and it's a large part of the reason why Superman can't just break him with brute force. But instead of that movie, we're getting what seems like it's going to be a bloated mess that won't resonate with audiences. So now we're introducing Batman suddenly into Superman's world, and ostensibly he will initially be the antagonist (since it's called Batman vs Superman) but I highly doubt they'll remain enemies the entire movie. The problem is that, if the true antagonist turns out to be Lex Luthor, an interesting problem arises in that, suprisingly enough, he's really too much like Bruce Wayne/Batman. Maybe the parallels will be made intentional, but I feel it takes away from his and Superman's elemental struggle. And then Wonder Woman is also involved, somehow. It sounds a bit like too much for one movie, and only just after this version of Superman has been introduced. And the problem is, audiences don't like this Superman. Sure, we do, but we're the exception. I was really hoping they would be able to really turn around people's opinion on this Superman with a Lex Luthor movie where he does what he's meant to do -- protect people, and not kill -- before getting him involved with the other superheroes. With this much going on, much of it just completely out of nowhere, including its own internal reboot of Batman, introducing the first big-budget film version of Wonder Woman, and who knows what villains of Batman's and Superman's may be involved, it sounds like it's just going to be a mess of a movie, and I don't think Snyder's up to the task. I don't have high hopes for it. I mean, I hope I'm wrong and I'm blown away when I finally see it, but what I'm seeing so far concerns me. On a completely different subject, I also agree that Zack Snyder should totally do a DBZ movie.
I agree with what you're saying about the sequel, but who knows maybe the film will be called "World's Finest" (as it should be, just my opinion). Also, I'm really hoping that we not only get a great Lex Luthor, but Brainiac as well. Brainiac is one of those villains that I would definitely like to see be adapted onto the big screen.
The last part of this music really sums up Zod: a man of honour, blinded by his single-minded devotion to his purpose. A tragic figure. Do not rejoice at his death, mourn that a great man has fallen. Kal-El recognized this and that is why his scream (after killing Zod) was so chilling and real. He's not really a villain, just a kryptonian whose ideals encountered unfavourable circumstances; a patriot of extreme proportions, a victim of a society lost in its conceit and short-sightedness. May we learn the lessons to be learnt from the character of General Zod!
So a Demi-God by design as presented upon the planet Earth, bent upon a world engineering of the very designs of the planet (which we all know the Earth would reject anyways) all humanity lives forever upon-ought imagine Zod as flawed by destiny (chance) or design (causation). Unquestionably, as the General mentioned, he was born to be the ultimate stickler for the existence of Krypton and Kryptonians by Genetic Engineering-forevermore 😁😄
The best villain I've seen In superhero movies… By far, Michael Shannon (Zod) did an excellent work! And what to say about Hans Zimmer with this masterpiece of a track (as the whole soundtrack of the movie).. And to Zack Snyder for doing a brilliant movie man… I mean, in my opinion this movie was perfect. For real… The fighting scenes are the closest look to Dragon Ball in real life we have ever seen in cinemas. It's mind-blowing. Peace!

Personal thanks to everybody who's liked and shared my mix! Not just because it's humbling to have had a small hand in people's enjoyment of Zimmer's music, but also because specifically this film, in my opinion, hasn't been received as good as I think was (is) warranted. So it's great to see people sharing in my love for this specific work of Zimmer, adding to a cultural momentum that in my opinion this score deserves. It's conscious approach to minimalism, to very soulful direct transitions from emotion and ideals into music, and to the brilliant sound design is, as far as it stands currently, under appreciated I feel. So thanks guys!
This movie was great. Other people who are complaining don't realize that the last super man was so horrible. Zimmer's music gave this movie it's back bone. Other than that, I enjoyed this movie very much at the theater and I ususally re-watch the scene with ZOD swearing that he will find Kal-Al.
shiz777 Exactly. Villains can do just about anything, and san easily pull the rug out from under you. Many heroes are simply there to prevent the writers from backing themselves into corners with all that epicness. :3
In our time of rising populism and authoritarian figures, Zod is an incredibly relevant character that echoes from the roots of Western Greco-Roman-Euro-American culture. Plato's Republic envisioned a utopian society where classes were strictly defined and special guardians were molded from birth to protect the sovereignty and security of the state. Krypton is therefore a version of that on a planetary scale, reminiscent of the Sarkar game and the four castes of society: Workers, Warriors, Intellectuals, and Entrepreneurs. While Plato and Jor-el believed in the ascendancy of philosopher kings, in the enlightened and reasoned guiding the republic imperiously towards Truth, Zod had a different vision for society. Jor-el wished for society to be reformed through contemplation and higher scientific principles; Zod saw only that society could be redeemed by authority and order. Both revolted against the suffocating shortsightedness and arbitrary legalities of the bureaucrats, politicians, lawyers, and industry, in steadily marching their civilization towards ruin and extinction. What differed was the means by which they chose to act: Jor-El through Reason, Science, and Philosophy; Zod through Might, Authority, and Militancy. In the end, it was fated to come down to both of them. Just as Socrates debated Glaucon, Jor-el bitterly opposed Zod's vision for a new Krypton and so did his son. In the end, it always comes down to a choice between the dove and the hawk, the word and the sword, and the water and the fire. While I know what side I will ultimately come down on, I still admire and sympathize with Zod. You can argue with his methods and means, but not his dedication and willingness to sacrifice himself to redeem a sundered home, a lost people, and the vision of a glorious civilization reborn.
@Not Alfie If you are bred from birth to be something, and you achieve your purpose, then you indeed live in a Utopia, because for you all that matters is your purpose.

Silrian777 Can you do a mix for Flight- Man of Steel and extend it? There are a lot of tiny violin sounds the movie has that really make a difference... There's also Krypton's last Chance, where there's this amazing moving part which just doesn't seem to have the right soundtrack anywhere online.. Those would be epic
bitten_vigilante Well 1 Flight has quite a main presence in my superman suite. 2 I'm not sure if you mean adding specific instrumental layers, because I don't have access to any raw material or anything. Just what's released. And sadly not everything from within the film was released. A lot of the parts concerning Lois weren't on it sadly. So does my superman suite contain what you want...?
I was wondering if you have the violin layers that play in the movie during the flight scene... And if you could put that into an extended mix of only the Flight theme
Honestly what makes this so brilliant is that if you didn’t watch the movie and just listened to this soundtrack until the super orchestral ending you would think at the end Zod turned into a good guy but he didn’t. It adds a fantastic element of tragedy to his character that I love, he just wanted what’s best for his people. Arguably the best CBM ever 🙏
That sound, the same sound that haunts Batman's dreams, the giant planet destroyer sound, fits perfectly with this theme. (I'm talking about MOS and BVS.)

Supes = Hero of Earth
+Rishabh Raj Damn never thought of that...
Zod is crypton's hero, but earth's enemy, goes opposite way for Superman
+Andres Gaggero supes wasn't an enemy to krypton.
Querer um genocídio de um planeta para a sobrevivência de outro planeta não é atitude de herói
I will honour the man you once were, Zod. Not this monster you've become.
This actually shows that Jor-El and Zod were friends which makes it so much more tragic
The monster he actually became is what actually killed the superman.
Whats more tragic is that Jor became the monster and Zod was the saving force of Krypton. Jor whiped out Krypton with Superman. Otherwise, Earth would be Krypton 2.

Zod is not a villian, he's a tragic hero.

real hero
Absolute GigaChad!
The bad guys won WW2.
I wish people could be this understanding with humans. Not just film characters.
Geesh,TalE159,you make me want to follow Zod,with that explanation !!! LOL.
Yes, we could learn, that we always could choose otherwise.
Not a Villain. No. But a Fallen Hero who has lost everything
And met a tragic end.
Eh. Trying to turn a world that has nothing to do with his into his old world is kind of selfish and not really heroic

So thanks guys!

shiz777 Exactly.
Excellent post

If there were awards for comments, you would surely get one. Great job.
