    For the longest time I had a fear of these guys and how they might suck me in if I’m not careful. That’s not the case though, fortunately.
    First of all, these aren’t drains. They’re chambers used to make the waves. A portion of these chambers are filled with air, pushing the water out due to the increasing air pressure to form waves. Pressure then equalizes by taking water back in, and then the process is repeated.
    Yes, they do suck water in, but the suction isn’t even noticeable given the size of the openings. I’ve swam next to them and I didn’t feel a thing other than a slight back and forth motion. Nothing to worry about :)

    Question-I have been in one large wave pool that had multiple floor drains, and then more recently two different wave pools (California and Alabama) that had no floor drains. Do these chambers at the back create enough circulation to also provide complete filtration on their own?

    • @ThePoolChannel
      @ThePoolChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the wave chambers do not filter the water. I didn't see any main drains in this pool, so I'm guessing there may be a couple of main drains in the chambers in the alcove. Although I don't understand why they would design the plumbing that way. It would likely cause stress on the filtration pump while the wave machine runs.

    I had a bad dream about being pinned to the grates with big propellers behind them. Now I am Claustrophobic because of that. I used to also be able to go down 20 or 30 feet in lakes but now I can't because I fear being pulled down. I always thought there were propellers behind those grates but I watched this video and now I know they're aren't. Still this video scares the sh*t out of me

      no propellers, just a chamber, with 2 pipe openings, that blows in air.

    • @mrunixman1579
      @mrunixman1579 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thing I didn't dream about BJ Penn's wave machine accident because it probley would be very graphic with the OCD that I have. A pneumatic wave machine does not have anything mechanical inside the chambers as it uses pressurised air to force the water down from the top of the chambers. They are just empty voids which have a pipe or 2.

      there's nothing in there really, it's a chamber, and there's 2 pipe openings (about 8inch pipes) 1 blows air in, other is for the air to escape when the wave fills up the chamber ready for the next burst of air from the blower.

    • @mrunixman1579
      @mrunixman1579 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I am not at all scared of them either regardless of having severe anxiety (Not caused by wave machines). I have been in front of a running wave machine in 1 of the older pools back many years ago. However as result of the illness self reflection did make me think it was not a good idea to get near to the caissons while in operation as I have previously hung on to the grate with it running before.
