Kieth Carlock is amazing. Watched him play the Music Box on 12/17/23 with Steely Jazz. 3 hours and he closed with this solo. Played with Tom Scott, Skunkster, and other SD band members past. Wonderful wonderful wonderful
I saw them tonite and they sounded better than that because I was in the center back 100'. Glad I could see Fagen finally. Their rendition of "My old school" had everyone singing along.
Saw Steely Dan open for The Eagles and they were fantastic. I prepare myself to be disappointed by the sound of my favorites at their current age, I trust Henley to only tour if they're perfect, but I didn't expect SD to sound so good.
I think this is it for the Eagles. They were excellent but Walsh and their bass player are looking like geezers . Fagen was great and had some great back-up singers and a 9 piece band.
@@ElaineCampbell What? This was just days ago? I saw them in a magical evening concert under the stars on a perfect night at an outdoor auditorium just outside of Albuquerque New Mexico around 2003. Twenty plus years ago and they're still reelin' in the years!
@@kennethpeller7411 I guess it's just perspective. Is Styx Styx without Dennis DeYoung? Is Kansas Kansas without Steve Walsh? Is Journey Journey without Steve Perry? Is Foreigner Foreigner without Lou Gramm? Is Genesis Genesis without Peter Gabriel? Yeah, I listed lead singers instead of guitarists. My bad. I know there's diehards out there that think it's blasphemous that Donald would continue without Walter. But, as long as the music is still good then ok. I saw The Who without Keith & John and it was a great show too.
It's always been Fagan/Becker and a cast of musicians. Now it's just Fagan & Co. Interestingly, I heard recently DF never really liked performing live.
I'm sorry, I don't see Walter Becker up there on stage - Fagan can continue to play all he wants, but it's classless to call this Steely Dan. Also, tell Carlock to slow it down a touch...or maybe they're all just trying to get it over with and get back to the hotel.
@@chrissomerville2625 Gosh, thanks. But no. "Vibe" is what Jeff Porcaro has. Then Don decided he wanted a wind up monkey that kept perfect mechanical time. It started with Gaucho and Nightfly - and they got it with Keith - he's a machine, but what he doesn't have is vibe.
This sounds pretty close to the original 1972 studio version's tempo. In fact if you hear bootlegs from SD's 1974 Pretzel Logic tour (easily found on YT) , you'll hear the dual drummer live band, carried by both Jeff Porcaro and Jim Hodder play the tune at an utter breakneck tempo. This tempo is as close to 'Can't Buy A Thrill' as I've heard them do, as good a live version as it gets.

Also played with Sting, and John Mayer and Toto.
I worked all 4 concerts..Steely Dan was the nicest people ever…Everyone single person on stage…Had a lot of interactions with them all….
what did you do?
@@montysonfulStill letting the 'tumblin' tumbleweed roll by, waiting for her response! 💖 🤗 😍

Wow! First time hearing about Keith Carlock…great drummer…now I’m a new fan!!
Keith Carlock just stole the show.!!!
Indeed he did!!
I agree. He's Jim Hodder, Jeff Porcaro, and Bernard Purdie rolled up into one.
I saw them tonite and they sounded better than that because I was in the center back 100'. Glad I could see Fagen finally. Their rendition of "My old school" had everyone singing along.
Hellacious guitarist! And of course, Keith!
I didn't have my own copy of Can't Buy A Thrill until I bought my own stereo at 16 in 1975, but it instantly made it onto my top favorite 10 bands!
Killer drum solo!
John Harrington is a monster.
John Herington is too! 💖 🤗 ☮️🎶🎸💖
@@royhinkley402 Thanks Roy 👑, got there in the end 🔚 💖(wonderful guitar 🎸 🎶 and very devoted to the 'Dan') 💖 🤗 🎶

Thats very simple..they are far better than the Eagles The fact they are supporting them is a joke but also a tribute to their modesty.
That is a matter of opinion. Fagen is a jazz guy and Henley is a rock guy.@@kwsfilms618
@@kwsfilms618Don Henley bossing everyone still, then! 🤗

Sounds great!! Awesome band!! Takes me back... You know..when talent was TALENT!

Keith CARLOCK on the DRUMS!!!!!
Is this after walter passed?
What do you get with a relentless desire for sound and song composition perfection? Steely Dan.
Keith is a M O N S T E R
Thanks for posting. Were supposed to go to see SD but had to cancel. Great for 50+ years!
March 4th in Orlando. Thanks for the Preview I'll get to see.
Remember this from my high school days.

Keith Carlock...beast...
Even in the lower key it still sounds good
What a band...
Drummer's on fire!
Nice, thanks for sharing
Who is the other guitarist next to Herrington?
Adam Rogers. Fantastic NY based guitarist.
@@braytunesother recent good guitar 🎸 from NY 🗽 was Drew Zing 🎻🗽🎶⚡☮️💖
Sounds good🙌
Still the best.
Who is on stage here?
Did they play Do It Again ?
Who is the 2nd guitar player? I love Jon Herrington playing so inventive and original while true to the swing of SD
Adam rogers. Insanely great jazz player.
Elaine, were you at this concert? How long ago was it, and where was it? Thanks!😊
Jan 20, 2024 in Phoenix, AZ (Footprint center, where the Phoenix Suns play)

Yes it is without Walter Becker it's still great

Grats to Adam Rogers for that prestigeous gig, I didn't know he is in. Donald didn't and will ever fail to pick the right people for the band.
Just noticed him myself. Would love to see this lineup live. Herington tore that solo up. Obviously keith! Insane drum solo.
🎸🔥

Are you gathering up the cheese? Have you had enough of mine?
Are you gatherin' up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
Brilliant but find the variation to the backing vocals annoying
Not without Walter it isn't.
We have here in the Netherlands a SD tribute band called "The Royal Dutch Scam". Way much better than the original, go check it out!
Not sure why they call it "steely dan" anymore. It's basically Donald Fagan and band.
It's not about the band members, it's about the music.
It's about the huge value of the brand...
It's always been Fagan/Becker and a cast of musicians. Now it's just Fagan & Co. Interestingly, I heard recently DF never really liked performing live.

This is the closer and often is deliberately counted in a few clicks faster. Lotsa bands do it bud. It’s called vibe.

@BadExample65 The wind-up monkey that kept perfect mechanical time was called Wendel.
Obviously Fagen respects Becker's role and vital contributions to this legacy music more than you.
Maybe the vocalists can't hear their monitors. Out of tune vocals don't meet the Dan's highest standards.
I hate drum solos
