Running On Empty Festival 2022 Highlights

Running on Empty Festival celebrates the 40th anniversary of the film 'Running on Empty' in Cobar NSW, one of the key locations where the film was made. Featuring cast and crew interviews with director John Clarke and lead actor Terry Serio, plus more, the highlights reel showcases the weekend of film fans and classic cars. Running on Empty is a cult favourite of Australian cinema and the festival in Cobar attracts visitors from across the country.

I would do this trip again in a heartbeat. So many awesome memories. Made mates from all over Australia. Met up with some people I met at other Events - Rob (Rebel Stunts Aust) Mad Max 40th Anni. Yuri ( Oz Studios) Weekend With Hooks Festival). John DeBruin & his crew deadset bloody legends. And huge Thnx to John Clark ( director) & Terry Serio ( Mike, Pissoff, Polic) for so many great stories. And have Paul a pair of glass3s the same as Rebel wore in movie.Take a bow Cobar.👍👍👍 We need a Part 2.

Wow, I've loved this movie ever since I first saw it at the drive-ins in '82, and I'm now 62. Until recently I never realised there where actually others that appreciated ROE. Max Cullen was really turning it on and it came through the screen that he seem to enjoy himself portraying his character. Lot of the filming locations were around my old stomping ground of the eastern suburbs of Sydney particularly round and about the La Perouse area. I recognise perhaps San Souci, some filming done out at Kurnell and the second drag race filmed out at Homebush. Funny to hear the last race being at Kemps Creek when Kemps Creek had nothing to do with the movie. Hopefully one day someone will stump up the money to rebuild a full replica of Rebel's petrol station and house.....c'mon Cobar council, how about it?

And caught up again with John recently on our trip back from the Hardtop Anniversary at Mildura. Did a photo shoot at the Museum & Cobar sign. We had a XB Fairmont, Goss, XA GT, Cobra & Landau. All Hardtops. John DeBruin is a dead set bloody LEGEND. We will be back.
