  • Just built a road on our family property with my John Deere 650 bulldozer in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. This video was shot during the most beautiful time of year - Fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The bulldozer is a 1997 John Deere 650G with the forestry package. The winch which was included with forestry package has been a necessity for working in the mountainous terrain.

Some good dozer operators in west Virginia that can build logging roads in the mountains. I really injoy watching logging roads being built and 5he smell of the fresh dirt being turned.

Great job , those smaller dozers are great for steep slope work around trees. That's what my dad started me out on. At eight years old . I love doing that kind of work. Keeps you focused on doing the job right and safe!

When I worked for the state forestry in GA I ran a dozer exactly like that. Late 90s JD 650. Absolutely my favorite machine

That little dozer is doing a great job, good operator not overloading the machine. Thumbs up.

Was a logger in Washington for ten years running 17As D7s and jd 650s. They were great dozers and could go anywhere and get in any situation. Build lots of road just like you are doing. Lots of rock and ran into big huge solid rock too. Sometimes had to abandon and go lower a bit and use more dirt. And the decisions of going above a tree or below a tree depending on what your road was for etc. My boss had four jd650s and had to build new C-frames for all of them Because we would just the Hell our of them breaking rock. That and the small radiators made the older dozers tough to keep cool on the hit summer heat climbing steep hill's and skidding wood. Those were the only flaws we ever had were the :c-!frames and the overheating. Fun to run though. We had a guy stand one up on the winch one time. Going up a go back trail with a new guy in an area where it got real steep and crested on a big boulder were you had to idle and creep teetering on the rock until it got up high enough then it would fall forward and then you could go. Well the new guy tried to jump off and knocked the operators foot off the deccelerator and it stood the dozer straight up on the winch. Our winches had towers on them. Had to get another dozer to push it back on the tracks. Many stories like that. Was quite the experience to be in the woods logging building roads and skidding trees and running equipment. Wish I was still their. Well you have fun and be carefull. All it takes is one little mistake on that steep ground and you could get really hurt. Almost lost mine a time or two.

I love the mountains and grew up in the east coast in areas like that. Virginia and West Virginia.
