Hello YT community! Thank you for the kind comments on this video. Partnering with Dan has been a treat, and we're anxious to see what projects he tackles next. We're excited to have him use parts from Ricambi America - and show everyone that indeed a normal guy (or gal!) can wrench on their own supercar.
I'm still pinching myself that y'all had seen my videos before we spoke. :) Thanks again for this opportunity and I'm sure we can help remove the fear of working on Ferraris a little more with every video... And have a lot of fun!
Ricambi America, Inc. thanks for supporting Dan's channel..I'm from new Zealand and have been with his channel since the start..he does a great job entertaining and informing ,and deserves your support cheers 😀😎😀
I could watch these ferrari maintenance vids all day, congrats on the sponsorship, well deserved. That went much easier than i anticipated . That press tool looked superb, you would have struggled without it that's for sure. 👍👍
Great video as usual! I remember you all talking about the renovations to your house, and it looks phenomenal, beautiful house especially that kitchen. Ricambi, SPONSOR THIS CHANNEL!
Thanks so much for these vids. Recently bought a 01 360 spider and I’d really like to do a lot of these repairs myself but to be honest, it frightening to me. This is giving me some confidence.
This is fantastic news! I buy parts from Ricambi and find your channel to be a great resource for learning about my car. Looking forward to future DIY videos! What a perfect match! Congratulations!
I like your videos because you take away the fear and dread that car companies especially super car companies like you to feel to stop you doing your own routine maintenance on your car, well done Dan 👍
Well deserved sponsorship! You are the ideal spokesperson for Ricambi (In my mind at least). Thanks to your videos, less and less people think that they always have to pay the Ferrari dealer tax!
Hey Dan, great to see your partnership with Ricambi. If they can give you some discount code, the viewers would be incentivized to use them and Ricambi would automatically know where their business came from. All the best!
It is totally awesome watching you do the repairs on your Ferrari. This has inspired me to work on my own cars. You should know that other than filling my car up with windshield wiper fluid and gas I had never mechanically done anything to any car. Well this past month I purchased a few tools and did my first oil change. It was so much fun that I followed it up with doing the oil change on the 3 cars my kids drive. P.S. Thanks for inspiring me to use a torque wrench. I have noticed that you always mention the torque settings prior to you tightening something down. This drives home a really important point and that is, the parts of your car have been purposely designed with certain tolerances and we should respect that. I wish more youtubers would mention torque settings instead of "Hand tight".
That's awesome! And I'm so glad you found working on cars enjoyable. I don't know why but I always find it very satisfying to just wrench on the car. I'm not always the greatest mechanic but I certainly am willing to give anything a shot. 😁
You have a very beautiful car I think it's great watching your videos because you are working on it yourself instead of paying a lot of money to have a Ferrari dealership to do it I look forward on watch more videos
Congrats on the Ricambi partnership Dan! I've been watching your vids for a year now and have been looking at F430's for a few months. Checking for those loose taillights/mirrors, Sticky buttons, and everything else you've taught me, is quite helpful. Hope to get my 430 soon!
Congrats on the sponsorship! Not yet at a job replacement, but getting one step closer every day! Maybe they will sponsor the purchase of a 458?(; Also, in the last couple videos I have seen you using breaker bars. One of my favorite purchases I recommend is a breaker bar ratchet adapter. They are way cheaper than a ratcheting breaker bar and work great!
Man seeing you work on your ferrari makes me want to do my own work on my 650 Gran Sport, I'm mechanically capable just hate scraping my knuckles:) good video..
Good one, Dan. I started watching your vids for the DIY on the 430 and this did not disappoint. Keep it up. Thanks for taking the time to film it. I know it can be a pain to do the work and film at the same time.
Great video and congrats on the sponsorship! Definitely well deserved. And while I can't justify buying parts for a car I don't own yet, I did reach out for Ricambi merch. Shirt on the way and hat for sure when they're back in stock.
Awesome video. It looks so easy and makes me want to do mine. I need to check the history and see which ones were replaced and whether it was with Hill Engineering parts or crappy Ferrari ones. Looks like the removal tool isn't really needed - but just my luck they'l be stuck like a rat in a drainpipe and I'll need it if I don't buy one.
The oven was not necessary, the tool you got (good job getting the proper tool for that!) will make it a breeze. I used the BMW tool kid on the e36 M3 suspension. All 16 bushings. WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. It knocked them out like it was nobodies business. I am surprised they did not come new with boots already attached...that was rather cheap of them :/ Edit: HOLY COW. I just watched more of the video and realized they are not press fit in but held by glue. Yikes. LOL I guess it works so it works, I am amazed its not press fit back in. You did a great job. Clean work and methodical. Drink a beer, you earned it!
@@normalguysupercar If they are supposed to be pressed back in, I would be a little bit cautious. Good job... Personally, I would have ordered and done the control are bushings at the same time so I didn’t have to take that apart twice. But hey, you get another video to make on the bright side;)
Very good job, you make it look easy, don’t think my misses would be too happy using our oven, does it give out a smell? Paul Hills replacement parts are the best. 👍
Who's jack do you use and what model is it? i have been looking for a low profile jack thats quick and yours seems to go up and down quick so i thought i would ask. have you had it long? has it had any issues? Let me know when you have time,
Hey Dan, nice work! Just curious, why don’t you use wheel hangers to remove and reinstall your tires? I use them on my 02 Maserati Coupe and they work great!
Good vid! Would love to see the clutch job when it comes time. This is working as til a few days ago...I didn't know Ricambi existed. Given this partnership...would love to see a vid talking about a F1 pump failure (not on your car...but if it happens etc) and maybe dispel some of the myths or clarify it with regards to the costs to fix this type of thing...and what if anything Ricambi offers for this type of thing...cheers
Another Excellent DIY video Dan. Ricambi and you seem like a match made in heaven LOL. In future DIY videos when you post up the part or kit numbers could you add the current cost of the part or kit ? I realize over time the cost of the parts change but it will give even future watchers a close cost estimate of what this DIY would cost to complete. Maybe even give a rough time of how long it took to complete. I would have thought that repalcing the Ball Joints would be a job for a Indy but after watching this DIY video the Ball Joints are something that I would now tackel on my own. Thanks Dan...keep the DIY coming.
I think I can post an estimated cost. We discussed and didn't want to post prices because, as you mentioned, prices change and Ricambi didn't want people asking "Why is that not the same price as in the video?" But, I certainly can say this should cost between $X-Y and expect to take Z hours. I'll keep that in mind and try to add that in for future videos. Great suggestion. :) This video took about 4 hours, 45 minutes of which was just baking the parts. It always takes me a bit longer since I'm messing around with the camera and lights for the video. It would cost around $700
Hi, very nice! i will love to see the video on replacing the other busching. I will love also to have more information on the tools that you are using to extract them. I have an old 360 and when i drive it on an american road ( with a lot of holes) the car feels like almost without suspensions very noisy. What do i have to change, what bushes do i have replace? I think is a common problem to all Ferrari! I thank you very much Luca@@normalguysupercar
Dang 80 bucks for that little press tool. I guarantee I could do it with a couple of deep sockets, long bolt or threaded rod, some nuts and few fender washers. I pressed in the headset on the last bicycle I built using that method, instead of buying a $200 headset press. Worked perfectly. Those sorts of specialty tools if I can’t make something it would be nice if they would rent it out, since I likely wouldn’t need it again.
Sorry for all the questions. My ball joints just fell in too. Seems like too loose of a fit. With yours did you have any problems with the loose fit, or is that why we use Hysol epoxy to set them? Thank you.
Love Ricambi! You turned me on to them when I bought my car last summer, they have been stellar! Side note, do yourself a favor and get a quality set of c-clip pliers- those universal c-clip tools $uck! Great video, looking forward to more "tech tips"!
In the ferrari instructions it says to put grease inside of the dust boots with factory ball joints. I noticed you did not with these HE units. Do the HE units not require grease? About to install mine. Thanks!
I really like it. My only complaint is when you kneel down it kinda hurts your knee since it's not all smooth like the concrete floor. But other than that, I'd recommend it.
Great job! Can you correctly use extensions with torque wrenches? Someone told me the torquing would be off?! I tried that one time and broke off a bolt. 😳
as long the torque wrench is used, with or without extension, is 1000x better than ugga duggas or hand torque. You'll be surprised how easy it is to over torque even big bolts because we tend to look for the biggest pipe and crank it down but something like 30nm already puts tons of clamping pressure
Dan. Do not forget to do wheel aligment as you changed suspension parts, every time you work in suspension or steering components you should do a wheel aligment. By the way that was very good job there, hope the sparghetti was ok haha. PS: how old is your dog?! Its a nice dog
If the alignment was correct when the joints were ok, then new joints will not alter geometry since the tolerances on the centre line of the joint are such that no centre distance has been altered.
Hey really need your help, my car was just purchased and the dealer has told me the ball joints were easy to push out and I should replace the entire control arms and put new bushings in those, but when I watched your vid my bushings slid in tighter than yours so do you think it’s necessary to actually replace all the arms for 7500?
If I every get a F430 I’ll know how to do it. Thank heavens nothing went wrong. Would a shop put those in an oven? Why would they use the other type of ball joints?
@@normalguysupercar doesn't appear that way, still have to log in after adding to cart and there is a coupon code entry area. don't gotta lie to kick it bro
@@normalguysupercar metal to metal is never good where ever it is, even as small smear of lube will extend the life of these parts even stainless steel parts need lube, I would try copper grease if no dust can get stuck to the grease the parts will last longer and be quieter. just because its not in the manual doesn't mean it not worth a try, Ferrari have no reason to get them to last maybe that why it's not mentioned
I believe I read it can be cured over time without the oven but it takes over 24 hours and it needs to be in a warm environment... But what fun is that?
I tried to like your video when you were baking the control arms, drinking a beer, and making spaghetti, but I had already liked it when I saw the Ricambi sponsorship. So I unliked it, and liked it again.
We've already got the parts in a box (bit.ly/2BwWuXE) We're just waiting for Dan to find his mojo. An F430 clutch job isn't rocket surgery, but also not something to approach too casually. We know he can do it -- and more importantly, make a fun video too! (Seriously though, a few smaller projects ahead in line before the clutch.)
@@normalguysupercar I guess if you're stretching it without beating on it. I've seen on a lot of F430 forums that people are replacing them at super low mileage. I was in the market for an F430 but ended up going with a 964 instead.

Was wondering how do I know if my ball joint needs replacing? What are the signs? By the way this is an awesome video
Loose play in the front suspension.
You'll hear clunking, rattling, or popping from the suspension and when turning the steering wheel. And as mentioned it can start to feel loose.
I would like some fried Koni shocks and chocolate covered Brembo's to go please.
Would you like a 5w-40 milkshake as well?
Normal Guy Supercar nahh make it 0w-40! 😂
Just like Grandma used to make lol.
The secret ingredient is love. 😂
How do you like your ball joints? Medium rare? Medium?
Oh, rare for sure. This is Texas. Anything more than medium rare is a shootable offense.
Are you gonna show us the new PPF and paint job?
Yes, the paint is curing so they can't put on the PPF yet.
If I every get a F430 I’ll know how to do it. Thank heavens nothing went wrong. Would a shop put those in an oven? Why would they use the other type of ball joints?
I'm not sure if they would use the oem ones or the hill engineering ones... That's a good question.
establish a discount code with them so you can see some data of sales your bringing in...
We're discussing that. :)

COMMENTING TO HELP
Thank you! :)
NICE-UB-10
LOL! :)
What does the dealer charge for that service, you know?
Harbor Freight heat gun so good, just place it near your parts and it is effective! 👍
I'm not sure entirely but I would guess at least $1500-2000.
Normal Guy Supercar Wow! Nice job, looked like a pretty easy job too! (From what you showed on the vid anyway).
Okay, I'm ready to do this, but shouldn't I ALSO do the lower ball joint?! Need a new video Dan!?
Yes you can do the lower ball joint as well, and the rear ones too if you really want. I just wanted to show 1 set being changed.
That was more of a missed doubtfire impersonation lmfao excellent vid man!
I think the miss Doubfire was supposed to be a play on Julia Childs though...
Normal Guy Supercar interesting, I didn’t even know that lol 😆
Love Hobbes! My avatar may give you a clue why. :-)
Ah yes. Great comics. :)
Yeah, and for wheelhubs, wrap them in wet towels and put in microwave to stretch a little 😉
Haha!
aka snap ring
Yes
Damn I did 325 for 20 minutes now my parts are stuck to my "non stick" cookie sheet. Wish I watched this first.
LOL! Gotta get the temp right or you can burn them. ;)
why no grease? dry joints will wear way faster than lubed ones even a small amount of grease will be fine if it is between the seals.
The service manual didn't mention grease.
@@jayb2617 that's entirely a true possibility.
So I dug into the service manual again, and low and behold it DOES call to apply grease! I'm going to do a follow up video.
Dont drop that shit! - Meg
Lol yeah
Are you a real enthusiast if you haven't baked car parts before? I think not :)
LOL! I probably shouldn't admit that was my first time throwing car parts in the oven... Intentionally.
I always thought ball joints on cars had grease within the rubbers...hmmmm.
Yeah, Me too but I guess not?
Ball joints and spaghetti
They are the breakfast of champions.
Im sure if I stuck car parts in my oven I'd be in for hiding, im sure the glue cures its self without heat? Anyway its your oven
I believe I read it can be cured over time without the oven but it takes over 24 hours and it needs to be in a warm environment... But what fun is that?
Lol
I tried to like your video when you were baking the control arms, drinking a beer, and making spaghetti, but I had already liked it when I saw the Ricambi sponsorship.
So I unliked it, and liked it again.
Haha! Thank you! Too bad you can't give out double likes.
Good choice to not continue the Julia Child thing. Haha
Yeah... I'm not very good at impersonations.
Omg this man use heat gun to heat up aluminum. Smfh and If he had u use that hair dryer he would been heating that up for couple of years
That's what the manual calls for.
I will hands down unsubscribe if you don't do the dreaded clutch R&R on the F430 and make it a diy video
Ah man, that's a pretty serious threat. :) I'm thinking I will, I just need to learn more before I hose myself.
No, but seriously though, it would be cool to see since that is one of the jobs usually needed every 10-15k on these cars
@@xxhotelcrazyxx actually the clutch tends to last about 40k miles on the F430.
@@normalguysupercar I guess if you're stretching it without beating on it. I've seen on a lot of F430 forums that people are replacing them at super low mileage. I was in the market for an F430 but ended up going with a 964 instead.
Great job amigo, I like your tool collection
Thanks! :)
