      I've had this exact spec since August. I agree with almost everything you guys said. Climbs amazing, cornering is stellar. 2.4/2.5 tires are definitely the way to go. 30% sag is too much for this bike's linear rear end. It behaves better and gets more playful around 25-27% without losing any noticable downhill traction. Upside: It's absolutely glued to the ground. Downside: It's absolutely glued to the ground, haha.. Could be a little more playful, and I do find it a bit difficult to hop, but only if you're not going flat out. It suffers a little at slower speed, like jibbing around the parking lot, or doing extra credit on more pedally sections of trail. With that said, I'm totally confident following any 29er's lines on this bike, which is saying a lot. Heels down, and smash! :)

    I have had mine for almost 2 months now and there is not much more I can say than what you guys already said. This is the ONE bike to own if you can only own one bike. It seems to Roll over stuff better than my Nomad3, but when it gets fast and chunky, the N3 mutes the trail more and feels more composed. The N3 is a decent climber as long as you are seated and have a smooth pedal stroke. However, through the slow and rough sections where standing and hammering is needed, the N3 Bobbed more than Newhart. I had my N3 for 3 years, and it has served me so well, that I thought I would never get rid of it, but then now that I have ridden the B3 so much, I am not riding the N3 at all, so I sold it. Like you guys said, the B3 is NO 29er, I also Demo'd a Ibis Ripmo for a good 5 hours (which I also plan on buying), and I think the Ripmo is better through the faster, straighter, and rockier sections, but the B3 is better in the tight stuff and the B3 jumps better. For all around trail duty, slight advantage to the Ripmo. For Park Duty, the B3 wins easily.

    I think there's a rumor that a 29er is always better. After riding them for 4 years... I'm questioning it. Not many ews or dh titles won on 29ers either. 🤔

    • @philmean5603
      @philmean5603 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a sales push. The industry and the mags have to generate hype over something. If you don't have anything decidedly better to offer, use the politician's strategy of making something up and hoping people will believe it's true by repeating it over and over. If 29ers were really so much better/faster as often stated, they would dominate the podium at DH and EWS races. So far, at least at the professional level, evidence for the superiority of 29ers is severely lacking. If one were scientifically-minded, one might think that maybe it's time to think up another reason to push you to buy something new?

    • @pinkbike
      @pinkbike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      EWS we agree on, but DH? Amaury Pierron? Loris Vegier?

    • @philmean5603
      @philmean5603 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are great riders, and did well this season. However to demonstrate the superiority of 29ers, you would have to assert that if you had put them on 27.5 this season it would have greatly changed the results. You putting your money down? I would bet that Amuray would have been top 3 regardless of wheelsize (and bike brand, but that's another argument). He had a remarkable year.
      The 29er certainly didn't help Gwin come back from a horrible season despite his asserted preference for 29ers, at least on his trail bikes.

      Its because its well known that the industry is shoving it down the neck.
      Is it really a surprise? Weather it is or isnt. Its know accepted outside of racing people dont like the gyro muted ride. Thats why you see all these responses. And i agree with them. Its not that they are bad. Its just part of the evolution. Look it was tried now for many years. People are now basically in open revolt. This is something you have to accept. Because when they were being pushed everyone was told the same thing. Its new you have to accept it. So....the verdict is in. Not everyone is a strava maniac. Is it a shocker bikers want to have fun? And now we speak with our money. Bottom line the industry gambled and lost. And all the corp fanboys and you know who they are now eat crow and are embarrased.

      mjs1231 Couldnt agree more. What I have now is supposedly obsolete? Please I love my bikes and until the paint chips off or the frame breaks theyre not going anywhere. As a matter of fact my 650b enduro bike is getting a new fork delivered next week. Ive been reading and watching vids on this topic for months now and have to say, if I cant make my mind up and it perplexes me to this extent then its BS. I go on epics, and dh type courses alike and my bike does it all in a way more fun manner. I have several friends with bigger wheeled bikes as well. Theyre nice but I can still get away and drop them when I decide. And I’m sure there are faster guys than me on 29ers. But am I going to drop my 2018 650b bikes for this craze? Nope. Im with the revolt. Ive had it. The bike industry will see my money again not in a frame but just parts. And BTW eagle drive trains are garbage. Gimme a shimano 1x11 xt any day and ill be faster and smoother. My eagle was always in need of a tune. The 1x11 NX tranny is better thats on my HT and it hasnt skipped a beat. Bottom line dont believe the hype. If you have a 26 or 27.5 ride the balls off of it. Your smile will be ear to ear. And most tests between the two sizes from good riders are only seconds apart either way in favor of different wheels in different terrain. Its you thats the difference.

    Great bike , rides smooth th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing .

    I never really got Levy's hatred of climb switches. Of course we can appreciate a bike that climbs well without one, but at the end of the day it's literally a "go faster" switch... If it's there, why would you not use it?
    Similarly if you're designing a bike and whatever combination of suspension characteristics, frame geometry etc. you want don't easily lend themselves to pedal-friendly suspension, why would you not consider just putting a shock with a climb switch on and keeping all those characteristics you want?
    I don't want to sound like an asshole because I liked the video and I like Mike Levy, it's just a little detail that always irked me :)

      Often it comes down to terrain. Around here we have a lot of technical climbing, so it's nice to have suspension that stays active enough to hold traction, but that doesn't feel sluggish under power. In places like Moab or Riva del Garda a climb switch makes more sense for sure.
