    I'm sure somebody has already pointed this out but there is no need to manually mask the transparent parts out. You can bake normal map with diffusion set to minimum, then take that normal map to photoshop and make black and white alpha out of it. Then use that texture for transparency.

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's a good way to do it. Alternatively you can also bake an ID map and use that as well for masking.

    question: why when I bake the textures in Substance it doesnt show the high poly effect to the low poly?

    you high poly version for leaves was only a couple polys large than your low poly.. surely just using the high poly would be less taxing than have an opacity mask?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the platform it will be used, but yeah not using alpha for this would be fine as well.

    Question: I created the smart material for stylized texture using your other tutorial. In that you create edge highlights for the wall. I was wondering how can you make two different coloured edge highlights for the same mesh? SO in this case, green highlights for the leaves and brown for the palm trunk?
    I am a new subscriber, love what you do, makes me really excited about creating stuff like this XD

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could use masking for that and use two separate layers with the different colors applied on each.

  • @aishamohammed7700
    @aishamohammed7700 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it possible to export the model back into Maya with the colors, texture painting and stuff intact?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have to export the textures, create a material in Maya and assign the textures to it. The model itself you will already have in Maya since that's where it was exported from in the beginning.

    Question: when you’re adjusting UV’s in the Editor, does your Maya ever crash unexpectedly? B/c mine does all the time.

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in rare occasions, but that's usually if there is something weird going on with the model( ngons, non manifold geo, etc). So it's good to check if there is something odd going on with the geo, also recommend deleting history as well. But short answer is yes.

  • @peterrandall6761

    Im a little new to uv unwrapping in substance, so for the objects that were the same (leaves, tree trunk parts) did you overlap the uvs? Also, im using blender but for the most part everything should be the same

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, same objects have overlapping uvs, but before importing to Painter I usually offset the overlapping uvs by 1 in the uv editor; this is because sometimes Painter won't bake if you have overlapping uvs
