Hi from Ireland.Very enjoyable video.I have the same side cases on my Vstrom 650xt and I am very happy with them.I think the reason that you have to turn the key after closing the lid is to prevent the keys from accidently being left inside the box....happened me with a top box years ago🥲, had to cut the hinges, luckly I was near home..
I just got back from the first camping overnighter with them. I swear they actually help stabilise the bike at speed. Adds a bit of weight/bulk at standstill. Packed heaps inside too! Very happy with them.
Great video . Covered a lot of info. . we did a trip around the UK Scotland,Isle of Man Wales and Ireland in2019 ,before covid. On the 2012 Vstrom 650 with givi paniers . 33 ltr with half opening top. Two up. Sadly they leak a bit but everything was in dry bags
Looking great, the best panniers to get. I notice on my strom when it is loaded it sinks a bit . I was at the servo and I thought the stand was down but it didn't lock all the way and I ended up pinned to a Bowser lol.
Haha yeah, the stand unlocks real easy on the strom hey.... I trust the DRZ's stand way more! I wound the pretension to almost max - not sure if that's correct for the weight? The front seemed a bit light/unstable at standard tension (guessing it was halfway).
Great review. I’ve just ordered a Vstrom 650 XT. I added the hard cases in my order (Black ones too sorry 😃) After watching your vid , I’m rapped I got them now.
It definitely made a difference. But a crosswind, is a crosswind still. But noticeable difference in a head-on wind for sure. They're a pretty common upgrade - I did do a vid on it separate too th-cam.com/video/1J8jP7KYVH4/w-d-xo.html
Nice, the silver ones might keep a bit of heat away. my back panier racks are in for powdercoating as we speak, i got front Givi crash bars and cant complain, good quality. awesome video Jase 👍✊
I was pretty impressed with Givi's delivery time, and they had stock ready to go. Everyone I asked had good things to say about the brand. Crash bars might be next!
Nice video! I have a 2020 V-Strom650 XT Adventure. So it already has 37L metal boxes on each side. I will probably add a 50-60L tail box so I can fit my 4X full-faced helmet and lock it because if I lost my helmet on a trip, it would not be easy to find a replacement.
After being stuffed around with the Shad set, these were available and I think from memory were the next step up in price. It was a fair outlay for me already, especially when I'll probably only use them a few times a year. Good luck with your decision.
Nice one Mate. Bike looks awesome. I have the Shad SH 23 panniers and SH34 combination. I found that as long as I have the contents balanced on both panniers.. there was no issues. Is your 650 a LAMS version of full powered? I noticed that you exhaust looks abit different from my standard exhaust. Keep up the good work!
I reckon I would've been happy enough with the SH23, but not to be. A mate has them on her Vulcan and loves them. It's registered as non-LAMS, so assume it's full powered. As far as I know, exhaust is standard. The Givi frame has a tip attachment to blow exhaust away from side case - maybe that's what looks different.
@@AdvExOz I don't think it would be much to be honest. I've heard maybe a bit in the higher revs only. It wasn't a priority of mine - I only found out when I transferred the rego. Full licence so didn't matter.
Hi there. The panniers look great and I'm thinking of getting some for my V strom. Can you tell me are they wider overall when fitted than the width of the handlebars. I do a lot of filteing here in the UK. Cheers
@@rally_ok_ar no idea mate, already had the storage box on there. From memory any box on top should be fine, but I sold the Vstrom a long time ago, so just making stuff up really 🙃
I wish that I had bought panniers like that instead of the out opening ones that I bought. I was wondering how your camera gear handles being in the topbox? I find that anything I put in the topbox cops a lot of vibration.👍👍
I haven't really thought about the vibrations in the top box. Coming from dirt bikes, any road riding seems smooth as - except the bloody crosswinds! So far, so good but will consider it now.
Mate, I've hardly used them (only a couple of trips). Not the pannier's or the bike's fault - just not enough time and crappy weather. Panniers are great, no regrets.

Sounds good mate. The Shad 34 secured my road helmet without any probs.
Enjoyable watch
Cheers mate. Bit of pannier Love Island in there! Haha
Thanks for the review! Is there any reason you choosed this instead of the Dolomiti? I am a little undecided between Alaska and Dolomiti.

@@AdvHQ yea, I think it's probably the tip that makes it look different. Mine is a LAMS, always wondered how much different it would be between the 2

Hi mate, just measured for you - they're a bit wider at 970mm and bars with hand guards at 930mm.
@@AdvHQ Thanks for the info. Really helpful. Cheers
Can the 56l Alaskan work on top? Or will u not be able to open panniers?
