This is apparently pretty good. There’s a couple versions of an explosive shot dead eye floating around that look good. I’m doing one of them now that I’ve gotten to endgame

Correct me if I am wrong...
From what I saw so far from your play style you are always close to mobs when you are rushing through the maps, correct?
But you choose the ascendancy with more damage for the grenades in the distance, didn't you? This 3,5 vs 7 metres thing. I think the shorter range option would have been the better choice for you. For distance comparison you might take a look at the range of extended solar orb - which is from my memory something like 3.2 metres. I believe you are much more often in this range.

It's about the distance traveled by the grenade not your personal proximity! And they travel at least 3.5m
