I'm in central California just above Bakersfield and end of last summer three houses just two doors away burned down and we were evacuated. Right after that the Borel fire completely burned down our neighboring town and was right on the edge of our town, Lake Isabella. We were almost evacuated. People who couldn't move all of their pets said they will stay with them and die in their house if they have to because they won't leave their animals alone. So I bought 20 pet carriers at $40 each at Walmart and passed them out to all my neighbors. I'm old, retired, very healthy and skinny so I can live on peanut butter and jelly. Pets come first. No one needed them but I told them to hang on to them because we are surrounded by three mountains that catch fire every summer.

Look. Firefighters have an Incident Management Team that puts a plan in place. This is put together with all the intelligence that's available to them. This is a war. It's faught by priority. Lives, property, and Firefighter safety. In that order. If you see them appear to just drive by and ignore an area, please understand that means there's somewhere else that's likely MUCH worse than what you are seeing. Keep that in mind before you say "oh no, they're ignoring this". We battle HELL one bite at a time.

Speaking of mayors, her opponent for office Rick Caruso in his live interview tonight with KNX 'spilled the beans' BIG TIME -- there's no water available to the Pacific Palisades fire hydrants !!! He explained / complained that the reservoir(s) that supplies the water was at a low level and hadn't been resupplied with water. He said, more or less, and as I'll paraphrase, 'how stupid can one get?'
The inexcusable SNAFU / fiasco affected him personally -- his daughter's beautiful home in the Palisades is a total loss. He asked the KNX reporters that when Mayor Bass returns to the city to please inquire WHY and WHO'S responsible for the hydrants being EMPTY.
"_Ben4810," NO ONE has / had a crystal ball that on January 7, 2025 there'd be a inferno of historical levels in L.A. -- including Karen Bass. So 'lighten up,' / 'get real.'

You may expect this to expand to 4000 to 5000 square miles. Imagine the speed of 80 miles per hour winds feel like?
Well, add fires to some buildings and you get the ability of fire spread pretty much subdivision by subdivision in tens of minutes.
Wow! The reporter sort of sounds like he was not prepared to experience this. But I would think that your reporters might want to be wearing fire suits themselves and be ready to leave. Maybe they want to set up an observation site about three or four miles farther North? The rate of spread is pretty rapid and the Fire Departments can't support the efforts to contain this.
Well, this is what Dresden, Germany felt like. Or Tokyo, Japan too. Both are sort of man made disasters separated by about 80 years in time.

In answer to questions of how these fires start, look to PG&E. I see you are having power outages. Gee high winds and trees and brush not kept clear of powerlines that break or short out is more than likely. That is what happened here in Butte county 6 years ago starting one of the worst and deadliest , the CAMP fire that burned the city of Paradise to the ground and killed over 80 or more people. I was working a nursing home in Chico when we got notified that they were evacuating a nursing home, a retirement home the cities hospital. They were inquiring how many of the half dozen care homes and the main hospital had extra beds. The nursing home up there was evacuating out the front door as the fire was b urning the back part. About a quarter of our own staff lived in Paradise and surrounding areas. They were put up in the local hotels nearby. The smoke was so bad that it completely blocked out the sun.
