I played this game on PS3 at a mate's place when I was a kid. Absolutely loved it. The nostalgia makes me wanna play it again, but paying 30AUD for a game that came out 15 years ago is kinda wild.
gotta be cheap on ebay or something. or if you have a PC, there has to be a game crack somewhere. that's how I played it as a kid, I didn't have any money lol
If you happen to have a console from the era the game first released, you can probably find it for pretty cheap from anywhere that sells games second hand! EBay has it for around $8 USD-ish, and I’d imagine it probably wouldn’t be much different for a store like GameStop.
Heck yeah, this was one of my all time favorites. I still go back and mess around with it every other year or so to this day. Edit: I wish Ray used his Devastator more.
Prototype def hit that Spiderman 2 the movie game nostalgia, being set in NYC and all. Definitely felt like what a Venom game couldve been, basically closest to be a Carnage game.
The studio that made this also made the Hulk game based on the Ang Lee movie and Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Sega at the time owned the rites to Hulk so Radical Entertainment made this instead, hence why so many mechanics seem borrowed from the Hulk UD game.
SR4 was just a bad game in general imo. While The Third had great moments like "I need a Hero" and the "Power" jump off the heli. It really dropped the ball after it stopped being a story about gang warfare.
remember when Yahztee of Zero Punctuation said that he liked both games equally and the devs of prototype and Infamous should draw the other game's protagonist in lingerie to determine the winner? AND THEY BOTH DID IT
Lmao in elementary school one year in my year book my friend wrote “I got infamous before you did” so next time I saw him I said “I got prototype before you did”
Getting both Prototype games to run on modern day PCs is a freaking nightmare. Spent hours trying to fix various problems in both games and had to give up entirely before I tore out my hair!
Haven't watched the full vod yet. I just saw Ray get the first hint though, and if he wants a cool achievement guide from 2009, there was this useful group called achievement hunter that put out some videos on how to find all of them.
I'm glad you played this as I was on the fence of buying the port for a long time. The reviews said that it was really bad but it looks fine to me, sure it would be nice to have a higher resolution and frame rate but at least it looks smooth enough and plays okay. Definitely picking it up when the Bundle is on offer again.
Hunters were brutal. Won't lie I kinda liked having this epic chase through the city while occasionally looking back only to see them quickly catch up 😂
Holy fucking shit I forgot how amazing that intro cutscene looked, and how badass it was. I also realized a Venom game would be VERY similar to Prototype.
I remember spending a lot of time in this game trying to master movement lol, if I remember right you can air dash right before hitting the ground to keep top speed or something
So, I looked up the PC port of this game, and there's no wonder Ray was having trouble; it's a terrible port with locked in specs and options that allow almost no customization by default. Case in point: the sound. The reason the sound was low and muffled for Ray on PC is because the port is locked to a 5.1 surround sound mix that the game won't/can't downmix to stereo, so unless your PC has a full 5.1 surround setup, you'll be missing most of the audio. EXCEPT in cutscenes, because for some reason, those are in stereo only.
Prototype is such a fun game! The abilities and open world is great! The closest game to this is Infamous and Sunset Overdrive. Two amazing games. I hope we get another game like these soon! Plus, Alex's abilities always reminded me of Venom.
I finally tried this game and sadly I wasn't big on it, I enjoyed it first but the gameplay was so annoying I hated it, but it's fun when it's not trying to spam you left and right lol, maybe Ray's run will make me rethink
Ray you just gave me whiplash with Scepter. Use to play that game when I first got a 360, was still real young and didn't know how game mechanics worked lol
I watched for 10 minutes at work lunch. Picking back up after work. I had to put my drink down because of Ray w things like "This actually happened in new york city" and the pizza cutter story.
one of the few games I will say deserves a remaster. then fix the 2nd game so it does not feel like a downgrade. mainly the cutscenes being black and white
Wow perfect timing! I was going to buy this during the steam winter sale but the reviews said the PC port was busted. Now I can watch stream dad play it yay!
I remember playing prototype 2 about a year ago, the only problem is that the game didnt know how to run with more than 4 cores so I had to tell steam not to run with most of my cores to launch
I loved this game back in the day and wanted to play 2. When i got an Xbox one, i heard of the "Biohazard bundle" with Prototype 1 & 2, but heard that was worse than the original. I later started PC gaming, bought Prototype 2, but it seemed to bug at an early mission and i refunded it. I gave up at that point and just watched the cutscenes on TH-cam. Numerous reviews on steam currently state issues with getting to game to run and not crash. And Ray (plus other commenters here) shared their experience with the PC port of this game. The series might've done better overall if the games were made, ya know, well.
1:24 "You probably don't care" Actually, Ray, i was gonna get this game on PC until you mentioned the Audio was fucked. Loved this game back in the day but never finished it. Guess i'll get it on Xbox :) 3:46:04 CAN FUCKING CONFIRM
I know it'll probably never happen, but I'd LOVE to see ray play either FF7 or FF10. I know he won't because of the length, but it would be such a good time.
Just recently replayed this game on PC. Super fun, but some late game stuff can get kinda annoying. The challenges are balanced for what you have available when they unlock. I got gold on everything before moving on to the next story mission, but it's also fine to just wait and do them later. I think the _real_ issue with getting all the achievements is the stupid "collect every little thing in this fucking map" achievements. I don't even care enough to do those with a guide.
Dude I remember my stupid ass trying to do a bunch of these stealth sections without the stealth consume. I was super a super dumb 18 year old who still hadn't figured out how to read and just skipped so many of this games tutorials. Needless to say this game took me months to finish 😅
Man this game was my favorite one back in the day. I had to borrow a friend's 360 in order to play it. And then it red-ringed...and I had to help buy him a new one as though it was my fault, so that wasn't as cool.
I feel a little silly for dismissing this game when it came out. Young me thought it was trying to be like inFamous (which doesn’t make sense because I think Prototype was released a couple months before inFamous?) and didn’t even look at it. I feel like I’d still prefer inFamous but Prototype seems like a bit of edgy, early 2000’s fun that I can maybe appreciate more at 23 than I would being 9.
Time to catch up on the large amount I missed. And I much prefer the first Prototype, the second one just had worse writing and they simplified the combat way too much.
I know a lot of people loved this game, but I always hated it. The difficulty was incredibly inconsistent and a lot of its design was frustrating. Eventually it starts to feel as though you can't even traverse the city without getting sniped by some random tank two blocks away.
Even when Prototype 2 came out, people dogged on it for relegating Mercer to a comic book and bringing in a no-name protagonist, on top of worse combat.
One of my favorite games of the 360 era! Thanks for playing this game Roy!
Challenge Finder Roy!!!!!!
Prototype forever cemented my love for shifting body parts and weaponry like venom esq movements. Just that liquid mass of a body. Game goes hard
Proto and Infamous are underrated series', imo. Wish we'd get a new one of each.
I played this game on PS3 at a mate's place when I was a kid. Absolutely loved it. The nostalgia makes me wanna play it again, but paying 30AUD for a game that came out 15 years ago is kinda wild.
Awesome and thanks for making me and (likely) Ray feel old now lol
gotta be cheap on ebay or something. or if you have a PC, there has to be a game crack somewhere. that's how I played it as a kid, I didn't have any money lol
Should have bought it during Steam's winter sale for 5 bucks
If you happen to have a console from the era the game first released, you can probably find it for pretty cheap from anywhere that sells games second hand! EBay has it for around $8 USD-ish, and I’d imagine it probably wouldn’t be much different for a store like GameStop.
@@TrojanGamer10 At least I'm older than chibi.
These two games were great fun. Shame they never made a third.
A true classic of late-00s edge. Lot of fond memories here!
I forgot how good the Web of Intrigue vids were. They actually got me interested into the story.
I LOVED Prototype 1! Glad to see you're finally playing it! P2 is great too, loved that playthrough!
28:31 It was not edited out LOL
Gael this thumbnail is fucking FIRE, amazing job as always
Heck yeah, this was one of my all time favorites. I still go back and mess around with it every other year or so to this day.
Edit: I wish Ray used his Devastator more.
I can't believe Ray went around hugging people during the Covid outbreak smh doesn't he know how dangerous it is
Prototype def hit that Spiderman 2 the movie game nostalgia, being set in NYC and all. Definitely felt like what a Venom game couldve been, basically closest to be a Carnage game.

3:00:15 the one npc witnessing act of monstrosity
Finally people realising that saints row 4 is a bad prototype game
SR4 was just a bad game in general imo. While The Third had great moments like "I need a Hero" and the "Power" jump off the heli. It really dropped the ball after it stopped being a story about gang warfare.
And prototype is a garbage version of infamous
@coltonallan I didn't mind SR4 but it really fell flat and then when they abandoned it, it sucked
@@MikeOxmaul-g3bno… that’s just not true
@@MikeOxmaul-g3bPrototype is way more fun imo. Infamous just looks better and has a better story.
This game is still a blast to play! Everyone remember the rivalry with inFAMOUS?
remember when Yahztee of Zero Punctuation said that he liked both games equally and the devs of prototype and Infamous should draw the other game's protagonist in lingerie to determine the winner?
AND THEY BOTH DID IT
Lmao in elementary school one year in my year book my friend wrote “I got infamous before you did” so next time I saw him I said “I got prototype before you did”
Got to love Ray's reaction to the completion points each time is funny
Godddd i love the [PROTOTYPE] games, they were my spiderman/sunset overdrive 😤 I'm glad he's liking it!! And the thumbnails a banger ofc
Watching Ray's playthroughs always make me feel so much better about me own performance 😅
Getting both Prototype games to run on modern day PCs is a freaking nightmare. Spent hours trying to fix various problems in both games and had to give up entirely before I tore out my hair!
This was the closest we ever got to a Carnage game.
I love seeing people play this game only because it was my childhood game
Haven't watched the full vod yet. I just saw Ray get the first hint though, and if he wants a cool achievement guide from 2009, there was this useful group called achievement hunter that put out some videos on how to find all of them.
Don't know a single thing about prototype, but i'm excited to see Ray enjoy this :)
Loved Hulk: Ultimate Destruction so prototype is certainly a successor. I'd love a hulk remake!
You either played Prototype or INFAMOUS back in the day. Both were so good
I'm glad you played this as I was on the fence of buying the port for a long time. The reviews said that it was really bad but it looks fine to me, sure it would be nice to have a higher resolution and frame rate but at least it looks smooth enough and plays okay.
Definitely picking it up when the Bundle is on offer again.
Steam port seems awful. My PC copy is one I bought from very long ago.
I remember raging so hard at the part with the hunters on hard mode, and then first trying it in the morning. They just gave me no chance to attack
Hunters were brutal. Won't lie I kinda liked having this epic chase through the city while occasionally looking back only to see them quickly catch up 😂
"If you're balding, just embrace it."
That's exactly what my husband did, he's been shaving his head for 13 years now.
Holy fucking shit I forgot how amazing that intro cutscene looked, and how badass it was.
I also realized a Venom game would be VERY similar to Prototype.
aye yooooo shout out to not getting monetized this vid, this game is bloody AS FUCK
One of my first streams I watched of Ray's was Prototype 2. I'm so excited for this playthrough (after waiting 9 years 😭)
This game is what i imagine playing as venom would be like
Someone once commented they could not not read the name as Pro tot type and that has haunted me since.
When Ray said "this is a 360-ass, PS3-ass game" I felt that.
Prototype 2 was my baby nexts to saints row 2, love the red zone trailer watching the hunters run pass to eat the soldiers.
I remember spending a lot of time in this game trying to master movement lol, if I remember right you can air dash right before hitting the ground to keep top speed or something

Was that troy Baker on the first like little flashback 😅
I love this game! Thank you for uploading, especially since this was a sub only day ❤
They removed the DC logo from the billboard outside the safehouse???
Idk why but whenever i think of this game i always think of the gamestop machinima ads that would play nonstop when this game was coming out
I'm like 30 minutes into this VOD, and I realize that this games story is set up like CoD Black Ops campaign.
This game reminds me of Grand Theft Auto 1 with the side quest markers and quest types. It also reminds me of Just Cause.
The story in this game has watchdog 1 vibes to me, and I haven’t realised that before
1:20:55 Edward Scissorhands is pushed to far and snaps.
Need to go back and finish these games
I finally tried this game and sadly I wasn't big on it, I enjoyed it first but the gameplay was so annoying I hated it, but it's fun when it's not trying to spam you left and right lol, maybe Ray's run will make me rethink
Another banger thumbnail
This series and the resistance series both deserve modern remakes
I played and finished [PROTOTYPE] in one day last year.❤❤❤❤❤❤ The game is just so cool.
Sooo you playing the second one? O.o I’d love to see you play it! :)
Giving you money just because I love Prototype. Here's to hoping you one day play MGS3. 🤑
Ray you just gave me whiplash with Scepter. Use to play that game when I first got a 360, was still real young and didn't know how game mechanics worked lol

he's gonna stream the rest later today, don't worry :)
he's finishing the rest later today :) so expect the upload tomorrow!
I rented this as a kid from blockbuster lol
How can this game be great if there's no fishing?
My favorite discount Infamous game
1:31:10 Surely I'm not the only who found it funny he used the APC's name seemly with out realizing it.
god I'm afraid that just by watching this VOD that I'll cut myself on all the EDGE
YES THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD
perfect stream to end my shift listening to/occasionally watching (they don’t care dw) it’s the perfect length
Ray is this how Covid started in New York City?
That's what he said during the opening cutscene.
1:24 "You probably don't care"
Actually, Ray, i was gonna get this game on PC until you mentioned the Audio was fucked. Loved this game back in the day but never finished it. Guess i'll get it on Xbox :)
3:46:04 CAN FUCKING CONFIRM
ray never played this game before? i feel like he made an achievement guide for this game a long time ago
If my senior citizen memory serves prototype achievement guides were either Geoff or maybe Jack? Pretty sure this game was before Ray's arrival at AH
I remember this game I had got it thinking well its something then as I played loved it
I know it'll probably never happen, but I'd LOVE to see ray play either FF7 or FF10. I know he won't because of the length, but it would be such a good time.
I want to make a comment about prototype and infamous being dropped a week apart and having the same story and mechanics.

6:33 ur already gonna be sus cuz you hit the sub goal for that XD
PEAK GAME HOLY SHIT
It’s funny to me that this is called Prototype, considering Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction is essentially Prototype’s prototype.
Yes!
Ray play gears with tina!
i believe he's gunna be playing it with andy cortez :)
I know a lot of people loved this game, but I always hated it. The difficulty was incredibly inconsistent and a lot of its design was frustrating. Eventually it starts to feel as though you can't even traverse the city without getting sniped by some random tank two blocks away.
Aw hell yeah
What real life story was he talking?
First
I love Prototype, but whoever told him 1 is better than 2 was maliciously lying I feel. Is that just because of the boss fights? Yeah, mostly.
Even when Prototype 2 came out, people dogged on it for relegating Mercer to a comic book and bringing in a no-name protagonist, on top of worse combat.
