Keep up the pvp content. With how things are playing out you guys might be able to pave the way for a new pvp mhs2 community. With how open and competitive you guys are about monstie builds for pvp this is a great start for a dope group of people to flesh out the scene and draw more attention to this aspect of the game. Especially if monster hunter fans who are only used to the pure pve of each game could try something new. And mh fans are typically really nice and supportive about builds so its a win if more people are really trying with the pvp. Cheers.
long time pokemon fan here, but i am playing this game and now find it hard to go back to pokemon sword. the difference is jarring. maybe not when it comes to person vs person, but the game itself makes you question why pokemon did not do this or that when clearly it is possible

Have you seen Palworld recently? if so, i'd love to have a "Palworld: Monster hunter stories. Same graphic style as MHST, same crafting system as Palworld exploration could be either of the 2 games, quests like MHST etc... Also for the fighting style, they could have both turn based and regular style like monster hunter game. Honestly kinda sounds too good to ever exist^^'

Arachnophobia's text seems a bit bugged. What it says there, except the (UP 2) Power++ Rate++, is what it says by default. The genes do have that text change when you upgrade them. Or at least, the passive genes seem to have their texts change to reflect what the upgrades change. I have a Yian Kut-Ku with a 1 star medium health gene that says '(UP 1) Noticeably increases maximum health' instead of '(Default) Increases maximum HP somewhat'.
I believe I'm about to fight a Nergigante so this is very much appreciated. It helps to know what genes to watch out for before playing around with rite of channeling
An hour ago I just got my first Nergigante and I love this video! I'm not done with the story yet but I'm already thinking about good builds for PvP and PvE and this video is just really helpful. Thank you for this video.

So I found Panacea XL, and I've been using that instead. Feels way better, because it's not just paralysis. It can negate the debunks you get from calamity, and also blind, poison, etc. You can still get sealed, but that's it. Need to find one more but at +1 it activates quite a bit.

Huh! I discovered savage roar on Nerg on my own so it’s cool to see here. It feels like 90% of PvE monsters are immune to it though. It would be fine to me if status resistances were listed in the field notes, I keep having my status strategies shut down by the game arbitrarily saying “nope, lol” and I’m kinda getting tired of it.
Everyone else has probably already gathered this much and I'm just late to the party, but I've been running Panacea XL on my Nerg instead of Antipara, and I discovered that Panacea can trigger on *self-inflicted* effects, like the defense drop from Calamity Slash. I've had it on more than one occasion where the defense drop of CS doesn't trigger but the health boost does for basically free healing. It's at +1 currently, still missing the +2, and it triggers more frequently than you might expect (I've even had it trigger twice in a row at times).
not sure about this gene i'm going to suggest. But there is a gene that Nergigante can learn that is called Negate Aliment (XL), it is a Dragon Power type passive skill that negates all abnormal status effects. It's infrequent chance of activation is what makes me question about it, but if it rates up it might reach normal activation.
Im still fairly early in the game in the second area of the ice zone but man oh man once i get to high rank the depth to the genes you can customize with makes this so much more in depth and interesting than pokemon and you can just utterly annihilate the enemy
I've been using. Pump up - ×2 Dragon eater - ×2 Arachnophobia - ×2 Non element boost XL - ×2 self heal XL - ×2 salt in wound XL - ×2 Thousand blades - ×2 Calamity slash - ×2 Ruinous strike -×2 For my PVE build, he holds up pretty well with his healing and dishes out some hefty damage🤘
Another good healing option for nargigqnte in my opinion is mushroom power it fully restores his hp and if you + it up it adds a regen effect after it’s healed him
An alternative to the nergigante power move that you replaced with savage roar is rathalos' venom strike. Does the same damage, but has a medium chance to poison in return for costing 2 more kinship.
I just got my nerg done today and he's basically my go to monitor for everything lol, I also decided to go with anti thunder damage vs anti paralyze just to see how much dmg he would negate from thunder. It's a decent amount to say the least lol, but with divine I feel like anti paralyze is just too good to not use. He's so tanky and it's so fun to watch him wipe out whole teams lol
to be honest. i think capcom will just dont care about that really much and maybe just ignore it. the first game had PvP too but cant remember if they did balance updates. but also the first game selled not thaaaat much. so maybe cause more player will now put more pressure on them but i think most will not even care about that much pvp dont know. for me the PvP feels weird its often just a few round and its done. i think if the PvP would not be most of the time that either you getting one or two shotted or you are one or two shotting the enemy it would be much more fun... yeah the three live system is there but come on the Match is always over pretty soon unless both would be suuuuuuper defensive in playstyle
I made this build and did some test runs in PvE. It's currently my strongest monster that will carry me through endgame until I can get the remaining elders or deviants and finalize their builds. There's one thing I'm going to change for the PvE Nerg. Savage Roar rarely did anything for me other than act as a sonic bomb with a bit of damage against the occasional Diablos or other monsters that can hide underground. Knockdown never activated against other monsters. It's also an AoE move, so it can't combo with the hunter to prevent enemy attacks entirely and Nerg already has an AoE nuke with Calamity Slash and doesn't need a second one imo. So I removed Savage Roar. I want to use Ruinous Tackle instead for the ability to unleash a team attack with my hunter. I also removed Antishock Gene XL and replaced it with Panacea XL for a high resistance against any status effect and a chance to negate the defense debuff of Calamity Slash.
Arachnophobia was called Spider Assault in Stories 1 and only rolled on Shrouded Nercylla. Because it was a level-up ability you could not transfer the gene to any other monstie. That said, I used the HELL out of my Shrouded in 1. I did the same thing you did and built around it.
I don’t do pvp so I am working on a nergi build that uses all of the levels of might genes and most of the health boost genes to fill it up with non elem power genes as I will just use a different monstie if the enemy starts to use a different type of attack, so I can afford to run such a specific monstie.

I don't have self heal xl yet . I have the medium version still decent tho. I use pump up from deviljho and dancer to increase attack and defense and a speed boost at max health as well as thousand blades and health boost. Apart from that I kept his base genes.
I think Savage Roar might only activate the knock down effect on the smaller side monsters. Either that or those smaller monsters are easier to knock over and larger monsters are tougher - I’ve been trying to get a knock down on a large monster for ages and it hasn’t succeeded - could just be me though.
Dragon Eater is a power attack you get via Deviljho that has the Dragon element. Medium damage, but the monster heals back a percent of that damage. So if y'all don't have enough healing, heal for 20 kinship. 👀

Medium damage to all and leaves a cyclone damaging the enemies every turn 🤔 it costs 30 but keeps damaging once its been cast once? Just an idea but it could be good right? Or even thousand blades 🤔 high chance for bleed?
Hey 👋🏾. New to the game. Coming from pokemon and temtem. Loving the game but my question is, why is your nirg only level 68 for pvp. In other games the mons are either level 100 or 50. So whats the levels normally look like in pvp if i wanna hop in???

On the point of getting more kinship for calamity slash for regen, as I have only played the demo, I gotta ask if the guarenteed Regen you start with is more valuable to staying alive. Asuming you can use calamity turn 2. As you won't heal turn 1, and say you go to half health. You then get hit again and die, but if you had the healing you would have lived. Even if you were a 3 shot kill, the guarenteed Regen from the start might make you a 4, 5, or even a 6 shot kill, but since your defense is lowered would you be a 4 or 5 or 6 shot kill after the regen? Or would you be a 3 shot kill after the first hit even with the healing (making you a 4 shot kill) thus making losing that healing not worth it. Granted the calamity sounds like a very powerful move, so potentially being able to use it faster to kill the opponent faster than they can kill you might make it worth it.
Bit late to the party here but doing this build my self atm and I'm thinking maybe u replace guided spike bomb for salt in the wound XL which is a beast esp if u got para and poison on the proc
All elder dragons are looking extremely promising, I remember that super nova Teostra cheese last time XD Also pleaaaase one of these for each elder dragon. I really don't know what to build kushala like XD a Tank that debuffs others? Annoying skillseal Ice attacker? Non elemental attacker with Trap Cyclone and Cyclone Chaser? Maybe a mix? Since Skillseal and elder dominance are a reliable way to, for example, shut down this Nergi and other similar builds. I got the same problem for Mizu and Seregios but then again that's just me.
How do you feel about bleed abilities? They don't really seem that impactful to me when you compare them to abilities like Bloodbath Diablo's Hellbreaker ability that also has a chance to severely lower an enemies defense. I ended up swapping bleed abilities out because other abilities just hit a lot harder or are more useful
If bleed is the same way it was in the first game, it cuts healing effects and increases damage dealt to whatever is inflicted with bleed. In Stories 1 it wasn't particularly reliable, but I'm not far enough to fight things that can bleed me.
Can you make a stygian zinogre build video hes my favorite monstie and im not sure whats a good build for him I was just gonna copy the build i had from mh stories 1 but maybe he can be even better ?
Would bleeding be considered an abnormal status effect? ( Because in MHW you got abnormal status effects and normal status effects like burn and stuff).
@@diousthomas8878 Probably won't, tbh. First game they had multiple flying monsties, but only the Rathalos line could fly. So you shouldn't expect that to happen. But it's pretty disappointing that multiple of these guys have just 1 rider ability or a bit too many having roar/mega breaker.

I have to say, I'm still upset that they've seemingly dumpstered the stats on Devilijho this time around. I don't know if I'm just unlucky or what but I have a Yian Garuga with higher base stats at level 40 than it.
That's because the Pickle's growth rate is Slow, unlike MHS1 where growth rate affected how much EXP it took to get levels, in stories 2 it tells you where your stat growth is going to be. if he's only around 40-45 now you should start to notice that each level he's starting to gain 14-20 in each stat while your Garuga is probably 10 or less each level, so he'll start to catch up and overtake it with time.
It depend on the playstyle i guess, this monstie in pve look really control/sustain oriented, pretty sure it’d go well with a gunlance or HH, if you swap in kinship gauge then greatsword could work
Go to Hokolo Bay and grind White Monoblos and Brute Tigrex Gold and Rainbow Eggs or go to the Desert area and grind the monsties there (Post game of course).

I'm new to the game how would I get arachnophobia? I don't know what creature to go for to get it
@@keechaunt3664 Shrouded Nerscylla is where I got it. You'll find that spider monster in the volcano area after the Uragaan fight, very hard to miss.
I have Arachnophobia on my nerg plus I added salt in the wounds XL to boost damage to those affected by it.

For a more potent PVE focused build, you can switch Arachnophobia to Thousand Blades to get bleed application, so that your next hit ruins a target.

I haven't picked up stories 2 yet but I plan to by the end of the summer! I was hoping to see a Nergigante build!

Afaik different Levels (s, m, l, xl) dont Stack

I Decided try try a similar build on Bloodbath Diablos. Seems to work decently well for the most part. Helps out some of the lower tier monsties

I think in pve it acts differently. Harder to knock down big guys

Prob best to get khezus bolt eater in that case. Its tech and the electric version so it works better in the mirror match
Have you given any looks at dreadqueen? Statwise she's pretty similar to nergi and a poison setup + team could be fun
I find that synchronize XL works very well in pve and pvp personally

You can set the level of the monsters in PvP so it doesn't always matter as long as your Gene Build for them is complete! Hope that helps :)

On the point of getting more kinship for calamity slash for regen, as I have only played the demo, I gotta ask if the guarenteed Regen you start with is more valuable to staying alive. Asuming you can use calamity turn 2. As you won't heal turn 1, and say you go to half health. You then get hit again and die, but if you had the healing you would have lived. Even if you were a 3 shot kill, the guarenteed Regen from the start might make you a 4, 5, or even a 6 shot kill, but since your defense is lowered would you be a 4 or 5 or 6 shot kill after the regen? Or would you be a 3 shot kill after the first hit even with the healing (making you a 4 shot kill) thus making losing that healing not worth it. Granted the calamity sounds like a very powerful move, so potentially being able to use it faster to kill the opponent faster than they can kill you might make it worth it.
Bit late to the party here but doing this build my self atm and I'm thinking maybe u replace guided spike bomb for salt in the wound XL which is a beast esp if u got para and poison on the proc

I made a fun build with a Nergigante with Soothing Voice, it's fun to have Nergi do so much damage, and heal other people.
All elder dragons are looking extremely promising, I remember that super nova Teostra cheese last time XD

I really don't know what to build kushala like XD a Tank that debuffs others? Annoying skillseal Ice attacker? Non elemental attacker with Trap Cyclone and Cyclone Chaser? Maybe a mix? Since Skillseal and elder dominance are a reliable way to, for example, shut down this Nergi and other similar builds.
I got the same problem for Mizu and Seregios but then again that's just me.
How do you feel about bleed abilities? They don't really seem that impactful to me when you compare them to abilities like Bloodbath Diablo's Hellbreaker ability that also has a chance to severely lower an enemies defense. I ended up swapping bleed abilities out because other abilities just hit a lot harder or are more useful
If bleed is the same way it was in the first game, it cuts healing effects and increases damage dealt to whatever is inflicted with bleed. In Stories 1 it wasn't particularly reliable, but I'm not far enough to fight things that can bleed me.

They will probably update it to have that since it only makes sense.
@@diousthomas8878 Probably won't, tbh. First game they had multiple flying monsties, but only the Rathalos line could fly. So you shouldn't expect that to happen. But it's pretty disappointing that multiple of these guys have just 1 rider ability or a bit too many having roar/mega breaker.
@@MordredStarfall the flying monsters in Stories 1 were the three Rathalos, Steve, the Barioths, and a Blue Kut Ku you could get from an egg pieces

pvp is not mandatory and there are no monsters locked behind it (so far)

I have to say, I'm still upset that they've seemingly dumpstered the stats on Devilijho this time around. I don't know if I'm just unlucky or what but I have a Yian Garuga with higher base stats at level 40 than it.
That's because the Pickle's growth rate is Slow, unlike MHS1 where growth rate affected how much EXP it took to get levels, in stories 2 it tells you where your stat growth is going to be. if he's only around 40-45 now you should start to notice that each level he's starting to gain 14-20 in each stat while your Garuga is probably 10 or less each level, so he'll start to catch up and overtake it with time.

Self heal is a fixed heal every turn tho. Not really viable in late game pve senario. But for sure great in pvp fights.

Aren´t aoe attacks really bad for PvE (if you have this many on one monstie)? Since you can´t double attack with them?
It depend on the playstyle i guess, this monstie in pve look really control/sustain oriented, pretty sure it’d go well with a gunlance or HH, if you swap in kinship gauge then greatsword could work

Go to Hokolo Bay and grind White Monoblos and Brute Tigrex Gold and Rainbow Eggs or go to the Desert area and grind the monsties there (Post game of course).
