Remember that Ehime Prefecture, where I live, used to record by far the most production volume of mikan in Japan every year in the 1980s and 1990s! There are several community mascots featuring mikan, including Mikyan(みきゃん), a cute puppy mascot.
Hi Life in Japan san, good morning this time . yes, yes, yes, it is very cold morning now . it is around of 7;41am. I just went in to this very my facorigte a coffee shop where is at underground of JR Tokyo station . And I am takiing my breakfast with watching your very nice new video, which was that you were enjoying with picking mikan ( oranges) in the mikan trees. and this too, I wanted to tell you about this your very nice video. why Iwan to tell you about it ? becasue I came from Ehime prifecture. this Ehime prifecture is the number one famous place for making this orange. this place ,Ehima is the number one to make it in all of Japan. and In your very nice this new video , I could remenber my childhood. yes, it was that I was picking many this Mikan ( orange) when I was going back from school to my home. and I was going back to our hme with eating it . in those days, no one was makig caution us to pick up these orange of other farmer's ground . because there were too many Mikan in those days , of course , it is in the winter season. You may have become like a real japanese . why ? because that your action that you were picking these oranges up with your family and your friends is like a real our country's life style , specially, it is at around of the West of Japan area , ( Shikoku area , Ehime. ) . Finally, take care of this cold weather sitaution .this cold weather may will become warm more a little by litle again from next week. OK my break fast did cme to my table now. see you. I wish your family and your friends will be happy more .
It's a very nice holiday. In addition to oranges, you can also experience harvesting pears, grapes, peaches, strawberries, etc., depending on the season. Japanese families have a traditional combination of kotatsu and oranges.
Those mikans look really delicious. BTW Becca-chan is quite brave to touch a praying mantis with her fingers. I don't like that type of creatures since my childhood. ^^
Satsumas become sweeter when you rub them. When satsumas are rubbed, the cells of the satsumas are damaged. In the process of repairing the damage, a substance with an acidic taste called "citric acid" is consumed. As a result, the amount of citric acid is reduced and the sourness is lowered, resulting in a relative increase in sweetness.
Mikan should be eaten at Kotatsu in Japan. Have you tried it? Btw, your kids seem pealing tangerine by western way even growing in Japan. The Japanese do it the other way around not to tear up the skin and it's possible with Mikan.
Traditionally, but that tradition is gone even in the countryside. Unlike when I was growing up in the 80's and 90's, you don't feel Japanese new year anymore. Just like taking a few days off from work.
You have a good friend and it was a lot of fun to pick mikans with family, wasn't it ? I've also experienced it once as a social activity when I was a junior high student here in Japan. And I love tonjiru (miso-soup with pork). Btw, can people in US have chances to visit orange orchard and pick them with family or friends together ?
Yes- there are orchards in the US, and you can visit and pick. Where I grew up, there was a famous apple orchard that was so much fun to visit. They had the best apple cider!

You should buy four cases of mikans, one for each kid. Then have a contest to see who turns orange first. (My kids overdosed on these on New Years...) Then you can make another whole episode about your pumpkin-colored kids.

“the cloud-kissed”
what a beautiful word this sentence
I’ll get dictionary of my head!!!
Everyone is having a beautiful time from beginning to the end especially the picking of Mikans.
I'm feeling my so happyns Love is All Finally 🎄🎄🎅🎅🎁🎅🍊❤️🎄🎅
Good morning from Canada! I would love to pick Mikan! It looks so fun

Good advice about the stems! And BIG tangarines!!
Mikans!! As famosas bergamotas, bem conhecidas no sul do Brasil.

These kids are HAVING THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES!! 🍊 😂 Mikans are sooo delicious but i always end up eating the whole bag in one sitting when i buy them
You just have to get like 15 kilos of them, and then you have 'em for a week! ha ha! Congratulations on 1000 subscribers!!
@@LIJ NOW THAT is a good solution 😂 😂 thanks!!! 🙏
I'm always watching this channel. It makes me happy to see the family having fun in Japan!

@@LIJ So happy. I adopted from China but have not tried Japanese Mikan before.

Merry Christmas with mikans!
I wish your wonderful Christmas party at Paz Coffee Shop.

Those Mikan's look delicious! I guess I will have to settle meanwhile for tangerines from our local supermarket!
They were good. Our kids have had their fill of them now though :)
@@LIJ I absolutely love fruit. At the moment not a great selection at the local supermarket. I tried Persimmon for the first time last week! 😀

I remember in Japan they had an activity where you could milk a cow and make homemade cheese! You should check that out!!
Wow! Sounds like where I grew up in America 😂
