Personally think there should be an uncoupling of the metrics so that healthy seniors aren’t being robbed just because they don’t use (need) it. I went to the initial Medicare physical two years ago and no need since.
Don't care for Oz at all...but the IRMAA was passed under Bush in 2003 by congress...who supposedly work FOR US ( eyes rolling) and was made worse by Obama...everyone's favorite (eyes really rolling) with his ruination of the healthcare system (which already needed help...but not his prescription!) So you and your lawyer are a bit late, Mr. Bigshot. Guessing from your ignorance, you're in no danger of making enough money for the success penalty to be a problem.
My wife will turn 65 Jun of next year. She currently receives LESS than $600 a month. She will have to get the Medicare and pay about ONE THIRD of what she receives from SSA!!!! She asked me yesterday how anyone was supposed to survive these charges and then she almost went into shock when I told her we had to PAY TAXES on that "benefit" also. She said, "but we paid those taxes when we worked" And I told her yep, screwed twice. Thank our Guberment!!
Go to Foodstamp office and file the form for state to pay for your Medicare. It takes about 2 months to approve. Usually you will get 2 months of your money back for your Medicare insurance premium.
My advice to young people is to please plan for your retirement. Lead a healthy lifestyle which involves being at a healthy weight, not smoking, don't abuse alcohol, this will lower your medical costs. Also, have the money set aside to buy a supplement. Otherwise You're going to be stuck with a disadvantage plan and have to deal with networks and pre-approvals. Set aside 15 to 20% of your income and try to live on about 80% of what you make. Medicare is not free and everything goes up in costs.
You are so helpful. Thanks for this channel. I have read about IRMAA as our Medicare premiums went much higher. I couldn’t understand what happened (until you explained it) we took money out of an annuity to modify our bathrooms for our disabled daughter and to pay for a long term care policy for my husband and myself as we are aging and may not be able to care for our disabled daughter if we fall ill. That’s why our premium went up. Hopefully next year it goes back down.
IRMAA is a joke,I have tax free municipal bonds State and federal. With the application of IRMAA you are taxed with all gross income what puts me over the limit so my part B and D went up 100bucks per month. So municipal bonds are not exempt from taxes because MEDICARE used IRMAA to indirectly tax you in its application. What a screw job the way MEDICARE claws back your money and your actual return on Municipal bond being low to begin with are suffering futher.
Once you're 65 and don't have access to other health insurance from an employer, for example, you are PENALIZED for not taking Part D. I wanted to drop it because the premium went up so dramatically and I take only two prescriptions. Paying cash those prescriptions would cost me $200 a year. Between the $40 a month premium and the $600 deductible on my part D plan, I'd be spending an extra $800 plus a year. So I wanted to drop it and was told that if I do that and eventually want to come back to part D I would be penalized for the rest of my life on that premium. Bullshit!

What I don't understand about Medicare is, why isn't there coverage for people who retire early at 62(SS allows you to take early retirement at 62, so why not have a Medicare option too?). I would think that most people who retire at 62 are not working anymore and need some kind of medical insurance for 3 years. Why not give them Medicare at a different rate at 62(where it costs a little more for 3 years), then when they reach 65 they pay the regular Medicare rates?. Or how about instead of getting rid of ACA altogether, make it available for anyone over 62?.
The Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program is a Medicaid program that helps low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay for their Medicare costs. The program covers Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments for eligible individuals.
A good friend of mine in NJ sold a beach condo in 2023. The resulting capital gain made his income jump. He got his IRMAA letter for 2025 and will be paying $480 per month for his Part B premium and $57 per month will be taken out for his Part D drug plan increase. Good thing it's only for one year.

If I have a small 401k amount and very small pension (which I am not taking anything out right now) is there a cap on what you have before it affects anything with Medicare?
Who do you recommend to help someone to apply for the fresh start IRS program? They have IRS issues now and trying to retire at the same time. My friend had his own business and started social security almost a year ago. He had to shut his business down because of all the insurance he was having to pay out just to keep the business going. The IRS has weaponized and came after him. He needs help and guidance, his social security Ck is only about 1,200.00 a month.
I just got on SSDI and I'm still on my prior employers insurance plan, they told me I HAVE to pay for the Part B (in addition to their ins I'm paying for), can they do that? I also got a big check from Social Security along with a fat check from one of my pensions I applied for (for back pay for the 2yrs I been out of work) is that going to come back and bite me in the butt in a couple years and raise my part B rates? I reckon I'll have to file an appeal like you said if they try to raise my rates. What about any money I take out of my 401k along with my pensions, do I need to make sure that doesn't increase my income to over 106k a year. I find it absurd that the IRMAA step points do not match the income tax step points. They are all just a few thousand below the tax step points. They are so close that it would have simple and easy to simply match them but as it is, I bet they catch many people who try to tune their income to not overstep a tax bracket. I stepped up into a higher IRMAA bracket by $1500. From what I have read, there is no recourse for that year, 2026.

Regarding SSA form 44, is it okay to fax the form and supporting documents to the local office instead of going in person?
The Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program is a Medicaid program that helps low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay for their Medicare costs. The program covers Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments for eligible individuals.
SSA 2.5 percent for 2025 get it
Surprising that MAGI doesn't add the capital gains exemption from sale of primary residence
New for 2025: max out of pocket $2,000 for meds (Part D). Part D 1:03 Payment plan is also new.
They made tons of money. They can afford it.
Especially, since so many ppl have passed away during covid. All those seniors who paid all their lives and never got the chance to get their benefits.
@ I was talking about the people that had to pay $600 for Medicare. They are the ones that made a ton of money and had to pay IRMAA.
@@teams3345EACH if married filing jointly. IRMAA is a "cliff" meaning one dollar over the stated limit and the entire amount is assessed.
@@teams3345If they paid FICA and all that: they’re paying double, it seems to me.
@@teams3345 making people pay hundreds more per month because they did well with their business and paid into the system way more than you did. Sounds fair...if you're a com.m.un.ist.
Umm how this affect those living in their cars?? With No income. With no ss because im not 65.
If you’re not Medicare age it’s completely irrelevant. Are you on Medicaid?
I became disabled in 08 and m6 husband still worked. I had my disability and Medicare with my husband's Insurance all these years. He retired July and now they want me to pay a late fee for my part D, my husband retiring is a lifetime change event. What paper do I file? They want proof of Insurance for 172 months, which is ridiculous.

The big sell on saving extra in tax deferred accounts, is tax deferrment. An increase in part B & D Medicare plans is just another tax really, just by a different name. This is in addition to fed & state taxes at your state and federal rate!
My spouse (not retired) sold their condo Nov 2023 we filed joint Tax return This condo was never in my name and purchased many years ago yet I am now dealing with an additional $300.00 per month for part B. This is a burden for me please advise I pay my own A,B and D
Why would a veteran receiving all medical care to include Px, hearing and vision - and using the Community Care System ever spend a premium for PX Or Part b and D coverage ?
If I have a small 401k amount and very small pension (which I am not taking anything out right now) is there a cap on what you have before it affects anything with Medicare?
Who do you recommend to help someone to apply for the fresh start IRS program? They have IRS issues now and trying to retire at the same time. My friend had his own business and started social security almost a year ago. He had to shut his business down because of all the insurance he was having to pay out just to keep the business going. The IRS has weaponized and came after him. He needs help and guidance, his social security Ck is only about 1,200.00 a month.
What about those of us who barely make 50,000 year?
50k? try under 10k..
@HealthyDisrespectforAuthority I hear ya... been there too.
I’m completely lost. I have no idea what this is about or how it applies to me.
Does an inheritance impact your IRMMA if it pushes you over the limits?
I have lots of questions, maybe I need to call that number you posted for free medicare help.
@@HDCowboy I'd definitely speak with a tax professional so it all doesn't come back at you.
Were you on STD or LTD through work? They can make you pay for both.
@@DebLindley-xg8gz I paid for LTD insurance at work and I had to pay back 90% of it after I got approved for SSDI. I'm only 62 and they said I can also stay on their ins if I so wish (which I did) till I turn 65 but its like $600mo and includes dental, eyeglasses, + other bells and whistles, and it should cover my 20% that medicare don't pay if my understanding is correct.
@@HDCowboy okay 👌 in regards to the insurance issues. Yes, they can have you pay their's and part B. Good luck with everything. Please do talk with someone who has a lot of knowledge on all these financial and tax issues.
@@HDCowboy Congratulations BTW for winning your case 👏
Funny how all this works. Because I went back to work after full retirement and make a high income I get charged extra for Medicare and my employer didn't pay me as much as others doing the same job because I still draw my social security. As I was told by my dispatcher. So now as far as social security payments are concerned I'm getting less than I was getting from before they adjusted my payment for the cost of living increase.
How about the generational welfare recipients get a damn job! That would save quite a chunk a change.
My brother passed away and left an 457 to me and 2 brothers. I took mine over a 5 year period rather than all at once. I have been paying IRMA for 2 years and now 2025 will be the 3rd year. I won’t be receiving anything else after 2024. If I get hit with IRMA in 2026, can I dispute that?
lots of people don't save up for an emergency and have to use a credit card and have to pay 30 interest
Is Chapter opened next week at all?

My B, Supplement G, and PX = $682/Month 2025.
I'm stuck unless I take a large deductible G, which I do not want. It's my state. Age nearest BD 75, 2-5 year medical history requirements required to switch company.
@@marthabutler9307 how healthy are you? HDGs annual limit is less than most PPO Advantage plans.
I'm reading there are 70 million S.S. recipients, who are the 3 million getting this and who is not?
Is this increase for new people getting Social Security?
Ed will the ppl on social security disability also be included in the increase that was passed by congress?
No
He's not referring to SSDI. He's referring to part b and d of regular medicare.
That would take . . . Week I’m gonna go cry.
I trying to get my ssd I'm go about 1 year, 1/2 I hurt my arm at work. The doctor but a Restrictions on it I can't lift nothing.Over 45 pounds with my right arm.I have heart issues too.
Does that clarify me to have to get my Disability
@@JohnManor-v1s You didn't mention your age. Unfortunately, this does play a part in it. Being able to lift 45 lbs doesn't eliminate all jobs in this economy. So many different factors go into determining Disability. Wishing you the best with your claim.
I sold my inherited house. Is that income?
Depends on whether there was a gain or loss, based on net proceeds vs BASIS.
My increase letter said they're taking $185 out my check now for Medicare! Is this because I receive gov disability?
No, $185 is the lowest cost for Medicare, just an increase from 3024.
**2024**
I pay O $ but i don't get dental so I pay that myself .
Thanks Dr. Weir! Have you considered doing some seminars for AARP?
Then he'd be told what he can and cannot say. I bet it's a hard pass for him.
AARP sucks
@@Jmamelia Good point.
I have Humana and pay 0 premium
...on medicaid so they pay my part B medicare premium.
Won't affect me at all. I cannot afford it to begin with. 🤷♂
I got divorced in 2021. How long do I have to file an appeal?
If it goes up that much I won't be able to pay bills.
What if you already have Part A?
I find it absurd that the IRMAA step points do not match the income tax step points. They are all just a few thousand below the tax step points. They are so close that it would have simple and easy to simply match them but as it is, I bet they catch many people who try to tune their income to not overstep a tax bracket.
I stepped up into a higher IRMAA bracket by $1500. From what I have read, there is no recourse for that year, 2026.
No sound? I have everything turned up...
Back out and log back in.
Do I have to fill out the 1044?
I get the letter, I was working on 23 and make like 60.000 that year I am a widow. I stop working on december 2023.
