This is the journey I'm on too. TpF1 was a challenge to make things work, wrestling with the game to bend track to your will or tunnel and bridge to where you wanted. In TpF2 the monster was tamed. And boy did it look nice, but under the bonnet it was all too easy. Now my challenge is an aspiration for realism, which includes detailing for sure but also extending that to realistic transport infastructure. A joy in a different direction.
@@roberts_irregular_random_rec That game is dead to me (and from reviews and play-stats, the rest of the world too)! Anyway on a video about Transport Fever 2 I hope its not too confusing for you what TF2, or even TF refer to.:) I also love how it MUST be a lowercase p too. TPF2 is unacceptable!
Well done John! Since making money in TpF2 isn't hard, the challenge is what you can do with the money. This is a great looking map, especially the flow in and out of Tilbury.
I can still remember my most efficient station. With around 6 platforms. It had a capacity of 35 trains a minute (when on fullspeed). It was a typical commuter station during rush hour.
Hat off to you John, amazing amount of time, love and passion put into this! Colonel define Soon??? - Just busting your chops, I have been missing my dose of my Colonel and Bulldozer.
14:42 Brilliant, the only person noticed in the entire simulation is "Thomas Anderson" this guy is literally living in the matrix 😂 I wonder where Morpheus is?!
All these years on, and from the perspective of Cities Skylines 2, I truly think Transport Fever 2 is the best city building game ever made, even despite it not actually being a city building focused game except by proxy. It also continually impresses me with how much you can throw at the game engine in late game without it choking to death and slowing to a crawl, whereas in Cities Skylines 2 the engine starts choking very early on, even with a NASA supercomputer, and it will become an absolute slideshow with even 1/4th of what TF2 simulates on screen.
This shows what can be achieved using mods I think a big thank you to john for all the effort he has put into this map, That was some British rail overkill, no steam and even a bit of green bridge very impressive and along with the appearance of southern rail actually running a train service!...[more used to seeing a replacement bus service as they are all mostly on strike] or is that northern rail, We can now use John's map as a yardstick for when colonel failure starts to butcher his TF2 effort now using mods... I mean, to create his masterpiece of planning using skill, flair, knowledge, and third-time use of the bulldozer. It must be ba severe temptation not to blow the dust off the yellow peril and do some changes to John's map if only for old times sake. This must have taken a few weekends to complete. This impressive effort was very worthy of colonel failure to show and give his sixpence worth of opinion.
The thing with that really active station is that there's a random freight diesel just sat there. It doesn't even have a train and isn't at a platform, it's just sat there idling at the station. I wasn't even sure if the game would bother render locos that did nothing.
I've never played or seen this game before, but seeing as transport is my favorite part of Cities Skylines, I feel like if I started playing this game I would probably lose my job due to attendance issues.
this is cool the map is big if they can come out with transport fever 3 like a (world builder POV mode) where you can create as many layers as you want...unlimited and then you can play a person drive and ride on trains, planes, cars, buses, and ships...then that would be even more of a well put together version.
Someone needs to make a mod where you can set up your own freight classification railroad yards, and actually have big trains come in, and smaller engines deconstruct the train and put cars on other tracks. Also roundhouses would be nice
down in the bottom bar towards the left side you have your earnings, followed by what I assume is the map wide population. Unsure if you click on that if it will tell you your population per city. I used to enjoy making some outragious train networks in TTD (yeah the one made by Chris Sawyer before it became Open TTD). There were many more limitations back in the original in the early 2000s. I enjoy also doing a bit of Open TTD from time to time, and the kinds of networks you can make are insane. Graphics are not the best, but its a cool 23+ years old. Amazing. I see I need to read about this game, the use of terminal cargo station is wonderful but at this point I don’t know why, is it to interchange cargo ?
First and foremost it's a design choice. Once you've got to grips with the game's economics it becomes very easy to make a lot of money. After that point the appeal comes from building what you want and making it work. Freight interchanges are great for ensuring high levels of delivery to both producers and cities alike, so on a practical basis they can save a lot of track infrastructure. On an aesthetic basis however... well, you saw the video.
I have watched a few of your videos and you make it all look so easy. Is it a hard game for someone who's never touched the series to get into and get things going?
The best tip I can offer is to walk before you run. It's tempting to go straight for a massive route of some kind but that'll almost certainly bankrupt you. Try a simple oil - refinery - fuel refinery freight route to start out. It'll make good money and finance further expansion.
Awesome man ... but as I can see, the performance of this game in the big map in the later times is very bad ... I have done Very large map, completely joined all the cities, they had from 1000-2000 peoples, and from some point it started to be playble smooth only on first level of game speed, others levels didnt make the game going faster, and then a few lines and new trains later it was unplayable, it has moved for 2 seconds and for 1 seconds lag ... I have i7, 16GB RAM, GF1070 and still it is not enough :( ... have you any tips about this problematic? Thx ...
Excellent vid as ever :). Armed with a PC for the first time in a number of years, I’m finally getting the chance to play this and I’m really enjoying it. Quick question... I've been a 'Transport Tycoon' player for years... but the graphics here are some way above! Before i pay about £30, can anyone tell me how the games compare. How 'playable' is 'Transport Fever'?
The only people I've ever seen disappointed in Transport Fever are Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe players because the way stations work feels alien to them. Transport Fever is a great game, even more so if you enjoy building as much as turning a profit.
