Off topic: Hey is it valid to use were and weretypes instead of therian and theriotypes? I just prefer being a 'werecat' to a 'therian cat' and a 'wereplant' to a 'phytanthrope'. Personally I just like the comparison to werewolves more, that's more aligned to how I feel regarding my therianthropy animal identity.

I'm pretty sure I've seen other beings use the term 'were' who aren't lycanthropes/zoanthropes. It's an older term, but I don't think there's any harm in using it.

I feel it's easier to explain using 'were' because I can just say "so I'm kind of like a werewolf, I'm not quite human and not quite animal. I'm in between and fluid between both." Rather than saying "I'm a therian, no I don't like masks, no I don't walk on all fours, no I don't have a "spiritual connection", and no I don't believe in reincarnation." There's so much misinformation regarding the term therian. When I do tell people (which is rarely) I have to say the full word, 'therianthrope', or else they'll just get confused.
@snapdragonslair yeah!! I totally get that. Tbh, the term therian isn't one of my favorites because of all of the misinformation. I much prefer to be called nonhuman or otherkin. Even though otherkin is usually meant to describe mythical beings now, it used to be the broad term if I'm correct.
