    The 12 mini is the only possible update for OG SE gangsters as soon as they can't find a good used SE any longer. Hopefully this day never comes.

    As a fan of small phones i totally agree. My opinion (as owner of an original iPhone SE and since day one of an iPhone 12 mini) is that the mini isn’t a one handed phone, it’s too “tall”. I like it, but i much more preferred the ergonomics of my old SE. The mini is too big to be a small smartphone and too small to be a great smartphone.

      Same here. One thing I did that helped me: add the full-width calendar widget to the top of my homescreen. This takes up the first 2 rows of icons, making the rest completely accessible by thumb.

      If the 12 mini was a bit more shorter/smaller, apple would have to redesign the phone to have a top bezel since the notch would just engulf the corners, making the phone just basically having a top bezel. But, I heard a rumor that apple is putting a smaller notch on to the next iPhones, so there may be a chance for a smaller iPhone mini but I doubt it.

    Me too still on SE 2016 ( iOS 13.3 ) and love it !
    This is the best sized phone ( not tablet or something ) ever !
    I love the headphone jack also, and the upper power button too.
    I have the 16Gb version, and its memory seem to small nowadays.I visited a shop and examined the 12 Mini....but not fit in hand so comfortable :I Cannot reach upper area of the screen with one hand .
    I use this phone one year more, and i wait for the 14 mini or SE (2022 ).
    I hope Apple not discontinue this little cased phones !

    Great comparison between the original SE and 12 Mini. I currently use an SE (2016) and love the size. The new SE was a disappointment for me because it was too large. I haven't been able to get a hold of a 12 Mini in person yet. Thank you!

    So I'm sitting here in early 2022 and contemplate replacing my 1st gen SE with an 13 mini, and actually your wrap up is good medicine against it. I'm tempted by the advanced computational photography features, but would have expected a bigger progress in overall user experience, too. Now with continuous support by iOS 15, I'll stick to the SE until we see what iPhone 14 holds.

    • @LanceAvion
      @LanceAvion ปีที่แล้ว

      Curious. Is that the original SE has lost current iOS support, the iPhone 14 line has dropped the Mini, and the 13 Mini has been discounted, what have you decided to do?

    • @jhirse3547
      @jhirse3547 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LanceAvion Still hanging out with the original SE (second hand unit because I dropped my first one). A price reduction of the 13 mini did not happen as in Germany Apple just raised the price for the 14. I'm too cheap to buy for 720€ and I don't like the 2nd / 3rd gen SE Form factor at all. So hoping for another year of security upgrades for iOS 15, and see in autumn what happens when the 15 comes out...

      Same here. I am even having trouble letting go of my SE 2016. Battery case, apps support, headphone jack, small form factor, and 64GB of storage is enough for minimalistic usage.
      If I ever need to get productive, I would simply use my iPad 9th gen which is similar but more snappier and bigger. Hotspot is available too.

    I hate wasting money. But it seems to be future proof and unless the iPhone 14 is out this year? I may wait for that. And only if there’s a jump in M1/ or bionic chip etc etc I’ll hang on with my phone as is.

    Great review thanks, I also had the original SE and absolutely loved it. Just wondering how the second generation SE compares to the iPhone 12 mini? I would be very tempted for the second gen SE because it still has the thumbprint scanner which I much prefer over the face ID because it can open the phone completely with one press rather than a lift, scan and swipe.

I just bought an used 1st iPhone SE and have been using it as my main phone for these past couple of days and completely agree with this video. The old iPhone can do everything my newer one can, but it feels much more simple. I’m not tempted to download random apps or spend too much time on it because of the size. I use it for what it is, a phone. I do hope that apple releases another version of this original SE sometime.

    both phones are great. i started with a 5 a year after it debuted and loved it! i was still having it as smartphone to fit inside my pocket easily. then later when i got a 6 they made it a bit bigger but was still small enough to hold and put in my pocket. then when the X came out, after seeing the Plus's in person, i was like okay the is crazy cause none of those can fit in my pocket so i went to an 8. now i have a 12 mini and i love it! still fits well in my hand and can put in my pocket! i have small hands but not too small and it feels and fits great in them while at the same time i got so much screen space! of course i always get a case and it still feels light and is not bulky at all. im glad they made the 12 mini! otherwise i totally would've gotten the recent SE that came out. also i managed to get at least 2 days on a single charge on my 12 mini compared to my 8. great vid man, and also i cracked up at 1:55

    Great attention to the way display size and quality relate to how long one will use the phone! I do not need scientific research to tell I have been using my P30 Pro for way too long in a single day. Now that I have switched to the iPhone 8, which is much smaller and has an LCD screen, I have started using my laptop and tv more. And I think that is the way it should be. One should not be spending more than 3/4h on their phone a day. That should be the absolute maximum.

  • @grahammcdonald

    The original SE is genuinely loved by its users, inc myself.
    I was tempted by the 12 mini, but the cost, and the expense if battery changes put me off.
    changing the bat in an SE is a doddle, and it’s cheap.

      Interesting, I haven't heard of that before. I do notice a difference between the screens, but couldn't tell exactly what it was.

      Have you tries a screen protector with blue light filter from a reliable brand? I had the same problem going from SE 2016 to 11 pro and the eye distress went away immediately after putting the filter on!!
      I hate the size and weigh of the pro and gonna get a 12mini. My SE battery couldn’t cope anymore, would have kept it otherwise

    its nice, but i think its still overpriced, i will probably get the 12 Mini used in end 2021 as i got my 2016 SE used after like 1 year of release for cheap
    if my SE is also fast enough for 2021 i will even wait for iPhone 13 lineup which include probably also a Mini/SE version

    • @hivepark6844
      @hivepark6844  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel the same way. It's a great phone but honesty doesn't do anything the original SE can't do (original SE still shoots 4k video). Main reasons to upgrade would be the battery if yours is failing and the better camera, which I have to admit is amazing. Still paying that much for a better camera and battery is kinda ridiculous.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hive Park yep
      what i would really enjoy... 4K60. probably also in HDR, this would be a gamechanger since i use the SE often for recording on skateparks and with the SE i have to stick to 1080p/60, which btw still looks amazing for an „old“ phone, at least when its still day. On evening its getting problematic with the missing low light capabilities
      At all what i would love on the 12 Mini camera would be the dedicated 2x camera and the very nice low light performance, any regular conditions without any need of zoom and the SE still shoots nice photos and videos. With digital zoom... its getting pretty fast bad and you can easily see how hard the SE is working for autofocus

      Honestly phones haven't really changed that much in the past 5-6 years. Only reason to keep upgrading is the batteries wear out and in my opinion, the cameras get better and better (if you are into social media like Instagram or that sort of thing).

    12 mini not worth the price difference vs the 2016/true SE in 128 GB. Won’t be worth it until Apple makes a pro mini instead of a budget mini AND upgrades to at least 50 MP on all cameras and at least 8x periscopic optical zoom. Then dropping over a grand post tax is justified. Not so with the 12 mini. Not even close to a grand without pro specs which is why it did 6% sales not due to its nearly perfect (still two mm too long) size.

      Larger phone is great for certain tasks eg photo editing or immersiveness. I guess battery size too.
      Depends what you do with the phone as I do like small phones as well
