Likewise, here in NC, Eagle Rare (if you can find it in the store) is $35 and Woodford is up to $40 now. Gotta DQ these two from the under $30 flight on price alone, which would make the Four Roses the de facto winner for this round...a respectable under $30 pour, especially if you’re mixing! I do like me some ER though...
Great content Chad and Sara. Here in Central Wisconsin we can buy Eagle Rare for $27 - $33. It hits our stores about every two weeks. Eagle Rare is my good to when I want more than one glass a night. Big thumbs up on the show. Thank you.
I love you guys. Seriously, best bourbon channel on youtube. Production is top notch and your personalities are awesome, it makes me want to actually spend time with you two. Thanks for the entertaining video as always!
Just finished watching the first five Flight Fights and really enjoyed them. I'm especially interested in the outcomes as I am a newcomer to bourbon (yes, at my advanced age) and am looking for some different bourbons to try that don't break the bank. I'm currently on my first bottle, the Evan Williams 1783, which I am enjoying, especially for the price ($18 with tax here in Idaho - don't know if that's a good or bad price). I don't really know enough yet to know what I don't know, except to know that my nose is not yet developed (I have more experience with wine). I do know that several of the bourbons you've featured (such as the Henry McKenna) are not available in Idaho (state-run liquor stores) as far as I know. Keep up the great work!
Woodford is the only one of this round that I've had, and I didn't care for it. Gonna have to give it another try now since my palate seams to be changing. Great video as always
Just bought Eagle Rare Tuesday for the first time. I love it! And I also get a nuttiness ir like a walnut taste at the finish. $30 here in East Texas. Also the Henry McKenna is $11
Sean Boyll I see your point, but we end up tasting everything back to back in the sped up portion of the video. We do a lot of A/B testing for that exact reason.
I second the idea that getting someone else to randomize the bracket, pour and set up the flights would be more interesting. You guys could obviously curate the initial list but not knowing what ones you're drinking at all would really give us a more unbiased review. Chad could always edit in the intro afterwards so the viewers still know beforehand which ones are being poured. The reveal would be so much more fun, too. Just my 2 cents- maybe sometime in the future?
Jeff Robichaud Perhaps. In a perfect world that would be cool, but relying on the generosity of someone to help us with he flights every time we do one could delay our content. Maybe one day though!
@@ItsBourbonNight That's a good point. And don't get me wrong, I love your guys' content and still enjoy everything you put out! Was just wondering about a slightly different setup is all. If I lived closer, I'd totally help out- you both seem like a fun bunch to hang out with :) Anyways, keep up with the awesome stuff. I'm excited to see the outcome of this 64 under 30 series!
We can call this one the "not so blind" blind. You guys recognized all of these. Maybe you should have thrown out the 80 proofers before you started. Good stuff starts around 45% ABV.
You guys have too much experience with many of these bourbons. They're not truly bling tastings. You should get a producer to set up your brackets and flights secretly so you truly are doing blind tastings. This particular episode was waaay to familiar and there's no objectivity. Still love the channel. And Chad you definitely married up!
Love the channel and the flight fights. Just wondering, and I know this might not be possible unless you had someone in the background directing this, if you should try not knowing which bourbons you are tasting? Just seems like knowing which 4 your tasking and having a lot of experience with the bourbons that you're able to pick out which are which pretty easily and then thinking you know what it is influences your ranking. Just a thought.
Matthew Schaefer A good thought, but we are a 2 person operation. Some FFs are easier to pick out the bourbons that others and we’ve often been wrong with guessing what’s what. We really just try to rank on the taste, not what we think they are.
I went on a bourbon tour of 8 distilleries a few weeks ago and bought 8 bottles of good bourbon. I have been to Scotland several times and have toured distilleries there. Everyone talks about fruity, peat, caramel, nuts, and other smells and taste. All I get from drinking whiskey is an uncomfortable burn in the mouth. I can't understand why I can't taste and enjoy the flavor. I worked many years in a culinary school and am known for my pallet and being able to taste minor changes in recipes and foods.
i know i am a new subscriber and its such a demanding question to ask, but im desperate. i decided to get myself a good old American bourbon for the 4th and i wanted to enjoy it to celebrate. decided since it was above 80 degrees and humidity of 70 that i would add ice..well big mistake, it turned all bitter and sour.. can you please help me with a list of bourbons that can stand up to ice and hold most of the flavor?
I had some Old Grandad BiB with an ice ball and I thought that worked well. Knob creek 120 SiB goes well on ice as well. In my experience a higher proof helps
Go with a higher proof, something around 120, and use a large ice ball or block so it will slowly melt. Or just put your bottle of bourbon in the freezer if you must and then pour it neat :)
Maybe a nice Highball with a good stout whiskey or rye would work on on of those hot summer days. The following is very-unscientific: Adding a couple of drops or maybe teaspoon of water can help open up the taste as it helps the oils lubricate the alcohol. More water will quickly dilute the alcohol and flavor significantly.
Dustin Paulson I just picked up a bottle in a small liquor store in Corpus Christi TX for $28. He had 6 bottles left. It was in the ghetto really. Guy behind the counter had no idea what it was really.... lol
Ugh. I'm in Ohio and I have yet to see anyone in our area have it for under $35, if they even have it. I have one source that keeps it hid in the back room for people that ask for it, but even there it's near $40.
@ Glenn Trieff Actually the "Mr. Kottier" pronunciation came from A Boom Boom Washington reference...He was the black student/character in WELCOME BACK KOTTER.

I’ve tried ER over and over and even in a blind tasting it has the most awful flavor. The nose is great but not the palate. Has anyone else also found it to be harsh and bitter?
ER is a great flavor/ ABV level with Rich dark fruit undertones. If I had to drink any one of those straight, ER would be the go to bottle. I have all four of these open in my house, so I shared a flight with you.
I could just not fit your flavor profile. Bitter, I would assume that since it is a 10yr you may not like the oak note in it. Younger bourbons will get away from that. Although too young and you get a pine sappy note. I would ask if you like Buffalo Trace as it is the same mashbill but younger?
Love you guys but being a baby boomer and a minimalist, I can’t tolerate the background music. I don’t need the constant entertainment but instead enjoy listening, thinking and contemplating, but I guess I am just unique and more enlightened than most😁

This was a fun one.
My favorite bourbon was Woodford, until I got Eagle Rare. I can't imagine anything better right now! Eagle Rare FTW!

Fantastic, as always. Corinthian Leather remark had me lol. Thank you guys!

Yup. Eagle rare has been my go to for a long time. I stray and always come back.

Four Roses stuff is starting to become my bae. Roll and three blast it all. Let’s get zesty, y’all. Tracy Chapman cameo was killer!

Yeah, Four Roses Small Batch is da' bizness! - It's akin to the elixir vitae.

Shining. Man you guys are really getting accurate with your nosing and palates.
You know what I'm not shocked by? This dropped in at 11am, and I'm drinking bourbon before noon.

$11!!!! Damn. I got to love out of Ky lol. All the bourbon is here tho... decisions
Old School reference? One of my all time favorites.
Whoever gave this a thumbs down is a bourbon snob and doesn't drink under $30 juice. Welcome Back Kotter reference was clutch.
thats a huge chunk of bourbon, so many cheap ones.
No surprise here. Love Eagle Rare. Unfortunately not easy to find in Ontario. At the moment NOT A SINGLE bottle for sale in all of Ontario, Canada.
I've never tried them side by side, but I pick the Woodford over Eagle rare. But in either case they're 1 and 2 for sure.
Wow, Ms. Congeniality reference there with the "perfect date" lol
Please use more Rick and Morty references 🤞🏻
This is crazzy for me. Eagle rare is in the $40 here as well as the others except the four roses I can get small batch for 28.00 and do so often lol.
When you come back for round two you should taste them in reverse order. What you've had before can affect what you are tasting.
Sean Boyll I see your point, but we end up tasting everything back to back in the sped up portion of the video. We do a lot of A/B testing for that exact reason.

Oh! Oh! Oh! What a great video!
Eagle Rare is definitely RARE to come by here just north of Cincinnati. I love this juice but so damn hard to get.
Krogers in Norwood had it recently. I happen to see, but didn’t buy. Last I bought was in TN.
The liquor store I frequent, which is a huge chain, gets 3 in a shipment and 2-3 shipments a year
Eagle Rare is my favorite but my local stores are selling for 41 dollars now 6 months ago was 26dollars 😪😥🤬🤬

Where are the rest of the1st round videos? Only see up to #5 then jumps to semi-finals. Am I missing them?
Eagle Rare for the win...at $35, because it does not gather dust on shelves in Indiana
Being a sixties child you guys made me feel old.😔 I need a bourbon.
Charles Nappo haha that’s what we do. But hey, bourbon!

The Woodford Reserve drinks much better from a straw. :)

TW&M sells this in my area for $28.99. In other liquor stores, it is $32.99-$39.99.
I found it for $29 at Kroger Wine & Spirits in Lex, KY last week.

I used to think I was crazy for getting a big jab of bubblegum for just a second on the finish of Woodford. Good to know I'm not.
I always get shwifty when bourbon is involved hehe.
