This is great arrangement. I cannot stop watching this video again and again. I tried to learn to play this song performed by Barney Kessel, but I concluded it it impossible unless I break a couple finger bones. Now I'm looking at your playing to see if I can learn it without any casualty in my fingers.
wondeful as ever and allowed me to treasure this very special "you and all your playing" you kindly uploading into youtube for all of us that lucky enough to be discovered you this far as I dare to call you Sir with genuine great respect you deserved in all out grace as I am very much delighted to let you know for the second time to be precise! Again, "Long Live Mr Troubleclfe" I repeated Sir! :)
One of the below posts is from someone who said "I never heard of Julie London but she sings like an angel". Time goes by I guess but its a shame young people don't get to hear music from Barnie Kessel, Julie London and others who have gone. Great intrepretation
Now you say you're lonely You cry the whole night thorough Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river I cried a river over you Now you say you're sorry For bein' so untrue Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river I cried a river over you You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head While you never shed a tear Remember, I remember all that you said Told me love was too plebeian Told me you were through with me and Now you say you love me Well, just to prove you do Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river I cried a river over you I cried a river over you I cried a river over you
Really nice arrangement of this great song. Brings out the bluesiness very well. The 000 style is one of my favorites, as is the mahogany. Love the "classical" style pegs; I have the same on some gypsy guitars. That guitar sounds excellent on fingerstyle like this; bright but not sharp and with that great mahogany full bass that I like so much.
So gorgeous, and you make it look easy! (if I tried playing all of those positions, cartoon-like sweat drops would be flying off of my brow, lol) I fell in love with this song when I heard Diana Krall's version. Thank you for sharing your beautiful playing on youtube!
What to say...Extremely chic and elegant arrangement. Exactely what I like in an arrangement for guitar of a song like this. I read many guitar players are inspired by your way of playing this song. Don't worry, I will try to study it too and sing on it as well but I'm afraid this is not my key...Thank you for posting it. You're great.
This is so amazing. This very version of the tune goes up and down in my head. It really pushes me forward to learn more about the jazz-side of guitar playing. Thank you.
Wonderful- as always! I think congratulations are in order. I believe you have been on TH-cam for 1 year! It's been a pleasure seeing and hearing your work.
yes, Davie does play it. there used to be a clip on YT of him doing so (may still be available). not sure on the history of the song. Maybe somebody else knows? Most popular version is on a Julie London cd with Barney Kessel arranging and playing the guitar. That's what my version is based on. thanks for watching
Very nice playing. Incredibly fluid. Those bends are especially nice. And that guitar is sooooo cool. I didn't know Martin made a mahogany 12 fret. There is a cheap dreadnaught I know of but yours is super cool. I bet the mahogany is perfectly mellow for jazz.
thanks. yes, i was. i started learning it in the key Davy's playing but then watched the Julie London clips and bought the JL album on Itunes and wanted to learn it that way. Really great album, by the way. Lots of Barney Kessel arrangments. Very low key sessions. Not drenched with strings, etc.
thanks. and go right ahead and borrow away (it's really Barney's arrangement anyhow with my attempting to put the melody in). the martin is a 000-17s (see video details box). Elvis is a lucky man. The cover of Diana's album "The Look of Love" always makes me stop and say "oh....oh my........"
Love your bending on this one, man. that's such a great little Davy Graham vid you've got in your Favourites as well. It's nice to see some of the older, more obscure musical treasures making the rounds here on TH-cam. Shine On, tc. :)
this is almost exact to the arrangement for guitar done by Ton van Bergeyk in 1977 ... however, back then were going wild taking from band scores and piano arr angements... I have Ton's rendition somewhere on an old Kicking Mule vinyl record.. he plays this exact arr. in same key/tuning, but a good bit faster and with a deeper bass emphasis... and on a nylon guitar... thanks ... this is a wake-up call for us jazzrag lovers...
a gravação deste disco é uma das grandes influências da bossa nova, principalmente pela guitarra de Barney Kessel, em todas publicações feitas sobre o nascimento da bossa nova a citação do disco "julie london is her name" é feita por todos autores.
This is really beautiful and I am very sorry that you haven't written it down with chord diagrams, but meanwhile, I'll just pilfer what I can see and hear to better accompany myself on my guitar while I sing the song.
thank you for this vid, i love jazz standards, there's so many ways to play them! i'd love to see your interpretation of "misty", it's my favorite standard!
thanks. well, i took it from Barney K's version on the Julie London hit (as noted in the vid details). Ton must have been inspired by the same version. cheers
Lovely arrangement, very close to the original, and superbly played. I have my own version that is passable (couple of performances on my channel), but I'll be studying your fingering and looking to improve!!
Lovely stuff. You seem to be one of only a few who play the song in its original key, at least the key London recorded it in . I noticed in my wandering that Diana Krall played it live in E. Internet tab can make you crazy people.
for the past 3 years ive come back to this video to hear your version of this. The parts at 0:22 and 0:40 get me everytime.
Wow. A very beautiful performance. Thank you. If only I could enjoy playing that way. C'est bon.
This is great arrangement. I cannot stop watching this video again and again. Well played rendition. Played this song with my female duo-partner and still thrills me.
Beautiful. May God continue to bless you... fantastic!Thank you sir for sharing that song.WOW.
wondeful as ever and allowed me to treasure this very special "you and all your playing" you kindly uploading into youtube for all of us that lucky enough to be discovered you this far as I dare to call you Sir with genuine great respect you deserved in all out grace as I am very much delighted to let you know for the second time to be precise!

What can I say? Melody and harmony perfectly represented. Great soulful playing. I cold listen to your guitar playing forever... Thanks for posting.
this is absolutely brilliant, incredibly well done, who needs a vocalist when you have this
Wonderful - you get the whole trio of Barney Kessel, Ray Leatherwood, and Julie London in there. as revedmusic said GREAT Interpretation.
This quiet and virtuoso interpretation is so good that one doesn't miss the voice
Thanks for the beautiful sound! It takes one far,far away!
wonderful performance.....love your voicings.....also great touch... so smooth..........so enjoyable ...thanks for sharing
Very nice! Good to see that this art form of chord melody still lives! Luv it! Nice job and well executed! Now I gotta go work it out for myself!
Best accoustic version I've ever heard. You are very talented Tony! :)
i wouldn't have thought that this would be good without vocals, but you prove that wrong. excellent!
I'm in awe every time I listen to this. BRAVO, this arrangement is absolutely STUNNING!
I heard this song for the very first time in V for Vendetta, so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing
A great sensibility in your guitar game. You're few players to get this feeling (such Tommy Emmanuel).
Thank's a lot for these gifts.
One of the below posts is from someone who said "I never heard of Julie London but she sings like an angel". Time goes by I guess but its a shame young people don't get to hear music from Barnie Kessel, Julie London and others who have gone. Great intrepretation
it sickens me to see a generation raised on rap music and the likes...but i guess its their thing.. keep fighting the good fight.
troubleclef has agreed me using this as a backing for my vocals - just working on it now so coming soon x
Now you say you're lonely
You cry the whole night thorough
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
Excellent playing, second to none, of a beautiful song.
Thanks for putting this on video. We're enjoying singing along to your lovely guitar.
Awesome arrangement. Some beautiful changes in there. Very well played. Love the guitar too! Thanks! BB

I cant tell you how may times i've clicked repeat on this!

That first chord is a killer! But you make it look effortless. Great performance. Thank you.
Paul

Brilliant arrangement, brilliant touch.
Wonderful, with great dynamics and feeling!
beautiful love the sound of the guitar this song just sends the chills down my my body when I hear it.
Props to you on this. Barney would be proud. And let's remember the greatness of the composer, Arthur Hamilton. He's still writing, too.
Really beautiful playing!!! Thank you for posting this. Wow!!!!

Well this is the most sophisticated cover of an extremely hard to play song. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing, I hope to one day be able to play it like you.... also love the Davy Graham version.
This is so amazing. This very version of the tune goes up and down in my head. It really pushes me forward to learn more about the jazz-side of guitar playing. Thank you.

Excellent performance of a wonderful melody. But why do so many older guitarists perform in shorts? jk of course. you're great.
Lovely stuff.
