I've already downloaded all 6 on my PS4, and going to getting the Platinum Trophy on them all! Going to be Streaming Final Fantasy 4 tonight on my Twitch channel! FF4 is my favorite game of all time, so I'm super excited to play it again for the millionth time!
I asked my wife to do them while I was at work now I’m home about to start the 1st gonna play them in order. I’m so happy to have the entire mainline series besides the MMOs on one console finally
You are right, It really isn't that bad. $75 may be more than what you pay for 1 AAA title but it's 6 games for an average of $13 each. Well worth it in my opinion.
They did very little work and charge 75$ for digital versions. I would pay that for physical copy for sure. But for 75$ you can get one of new games that are AAA. physical.
It would be perfect release if Square didn't cheap out on physical copies and produced decent amount of them. I'm already seeing stores selling the collection for 100+ euros on PS4. As much as I love these games, I'm not going to pay that much for collection of games that I already own.
I grew up with these games. Well, the three that came to the U.S. when I was a kid, anyway. I picked up all the GBA ones when that was an option, but I was also dealing with the first real onslaught of adulting at that point, so I barely touched them. I have absolutely no regrets getting this entire collection. Obviously I haven't finished them yet, but it's clear how much work and love went into these. The redesigned menus are much better than the classic ones and the 2x boost to experience and gil is the perfect amount to cut back on tedious grinding (of which this era's RPGs had no shortage) without feeling like you're pulling the game's teeth. I'm also really glad they gave us a proper video gamey font. The other one looked so out of place when I first saw these games on Steam. Overall, I think these are a big win and I'm looking forward to this whole journey. Now if only we could convince them to bring Chrono Trigger to Switch. Pixel remaster, HD-2D remake, however they want to do it. It seems weird that we haven't seen that yet.

It depends. It terribly undermines the expensive ff3 ninja shurikens and budget unequipped ff1 monk (and black mage as late game they wane with reusable items), but it makes ff2 playable without stupid tricks (especially ultima that needs everything maxed out for damage) or instadeath zones. Ff4 is easier anyway, and ff5 it helps the sluggish red mage learn dualcast and mystic knight mastery (spellblade commitment is terrible before break/flare) and ff6 you can get quicker mages (though late game relics/ultima will break later than gau rage lol), low experience for higher esper stat gain (though early game can be a challenge without Edgar's auto crossbow with hermes's Sandals haste) and auction house with gil. Of course bugfixes with ff6 help a ton as well. Was hoping a vid would address how the boosts change the games (3:37 you only grind with ff2 peninsula of power that was taken out of PR and the rest of the game is a cakewalk as you fight repetitive enemies each dungeon). I'll probably just stick with ff6 (I already beat ff2 old version and gba so easy mode isn't for me let alone it heavily favors ancient/blood sword and ripper knife builds if not using holy/flare), my mobile versions of ff3 (onion knight won't get better drops vs dragons in Final dungeon but level 99 is faster while early game you can defend 5 times to job level every battle). With ff5 (you'll play similarly to master at end, just faster for mastering red mage, berserker and mystic knight that are kinda unwanted at the wrong time like red mage galuf's last stand is a snore fest for damage).
i downloaded FF 1 4 and 6 the second i could on the Ps4 . i am happy i could get the avatars and themes . I forgot which FF 4 version was on the Pixel remaster. i hope it's the DS version. i love hearing them talk.
I totally agree with the part on boost system. It's so considerate offering CHOICES for all kinds of players and allowing all of them to enjoy the game, whether they come for a normal walkthrough, a quick taste of the classics, or challenges. Honestly I’m kind of “spoiled” by the boost system in the FF remasters (1-9), and hate to see remasters/rereleases without lowering the difficulties (e.g. FFX and FFXII on switch, Romancing Saga remasters, Tactics Orge remaster, etc.) as well as newly released games without difficulty options. （the above comments apply only to RPG games btw
I think the coolest thing about them putting the original 8 and 16 bit music in as an option is that they went and made 8 bit versions of the music from newer versions of the games.
Totally agree about the price. I’m buying them individually over a period of time to save money. Buy one, complete it and buy another. FF1 took me a week to complete and now I’m playing 4. Not sure about when I’ll be getting 2 and 3. I heard so many good things about 4 that I had to give it a shot.
Given how dated these games are, I think charging about $10 (max $15) would have been more appropriate. As someone who has very nostalgic and fond memories playing FFIII, I will sadly take a pass on this.
Playing FF VI now in widescreen, on my native language (Brazilian Portuguese), on a big screen with redone graphics and the exp boosting, being able to turn of random encounters, the new soundtrack… I keep thinking 10 year old me would be losing his mind, and I just feel so happy.
SquareEnix I really hope are going to release another round of especially the PS4 physical and the Anniversary edition. So many people wanted these and can't get them. The Switch version is available through Play-Asia and some Canadian retailers but the PS4 version is not and the Anniversary edition was barely made at all. I want another shot at these big time. Great review DG, this is the perfect kind of collection to have a physical of.
Yeah unfortunately it’s gonna probably be one of those rarer collectors items in the future where if you want it buy a sealed copy now before they become few and far between in the future being a lot more expensive. Sucks I know but I’ve been thinking about it a lot
@@Megumi0800 There has been no way of telling at this point. No one has heard any rumors about SquareEnix doing so that I have seen. A lot of folks that wanted those versions got left behind with this release, I certainly hope they reconsider the rarity of these releases and give more people the chance to get what they want.
I am excited for this just like you max 😎👌 ff1 was my jam as a kid on the nes and my first rpg experience(also played dragon warrior)of course zelda too but ff was my game. All these years later I still sing those songs and Luke you have played the remakes on ps1. This is a dream come true for me and even though I have GOW and horizon and re4 remake etc. I still will put them down and make time for these masterpieces once again 👏 here's to happy gaming 🍻
It would be a really smart idea for more publishers to add in these little mods to re-releases of old games. I can imagine if Nintendo in Sony added mods for their subscription service retro titles? And I mean doing it themselves, they don't necessarily have to open it up to fan mods.
Sony will not allow external assets in their games as seen with the modding situation with Fallout 4 and Skyrim. But I do like the idea of modding a Final Fantasy game.

I’ve been playing FF4 pixel remaster today and really enjoying it. I haven’t played since the PSP Complete Collection was released. While I adored that release, I like this one because it’s truer to the original. Playing the game as the original creators intended. I’m not often a fan of when newer staff or outsourced developers come along and begin just throwing extra content into classic games. Such as bonus dungeons. They just diminish the experience for me. When I beat the game boss, that’s what I want, the game to be complete. It’s done, I’ve finished it, take in the ending. Not reload a save afterwards and now there’s a new boss and new dungeons and then go back in and refinish the game yet again. I just don’t care for that, it’s cheap to me. They want to include them within the first run of the game, that’s fine but I abhor having to beat a game two or three times to get the full experience. That’s why I’m liking these remasters, a fresh new look and sound but the true original intended experience in there. Can’t wait too to play 5 and especially 6..been 15 years since I’ve played 6.

Hot take: I like this better than HD2D. If you ask me, HD2D is a little "much" and sometimes the sprites just get lost in all the lighting effects and shadows. This is clean, and pretty looking sprite work that still holds the spirit of classic games from that era.

As a parent of younger kids and put in my time of grinding these games I luv the fact that the extra XP and Gil boost is here. I bought all games without hesitation. My only wish is that 5 and 6 can't be played 2 player online. I was hoping when I first heard about release.
I feel like the XP and Gil boost is more to help out nostalgic fans as they want to get down and dirty with the story quicker. If you introduce your younger kids to such boosts, as they get older they will want more boosts like these and will complain if there is none. Have them suffer the same way you did back in the 90s lol

Pixel Perfect/Pixel Remaster is the way to go. Preserve the classic games that we grew up with. From the 8bit to the 32 or 64 bits. Also because I'm running out of room space for my collection of retro games, consoles and peripherals so that's that
I picked up the entire collection on my Nintendo switch! After playing final fantasy 1 it’s a HUGE step up from the nes port im not the biggest final fantasy fan but I’m also not new to the franchise either I made it far in final fantasy 9 I am so happy I got this for my Nintendo switch! Trying out the other 5 games will be a treat! 😊
Not bad, I would play over FF 6 again for sure. Though I would like for square to rerelease the FF3 and FF4 remakes they did for 3ds and later got ported to PC on consoles. I love those remakes
FFIII is so my favorite because the story started off kinda like Lunar Silver Star Story on PS1. PS1 started off going to explore the Dragon Cave with Ramus for treasure and started an incredible story, Switch version seems to follow that somewhat and reminds me of my favorite RPG of all time, Lunar.
I would love to get this collection, but for the moment you have to buy each separately. I don't want to do that so I'll wait until a bundle appears on the PS store.
They definitely improved the font, but I still wish there is a choice of making it larger to make it more comfortable for playing it on a portable device.
I entered this series with the FF7 remake a couple years ago and loved it. I wanted to try FF6 next, and played for about 20 hours on my PS1 before putting it down due to it's archaic slow tedious nature. Seeing the EXP boost option and quicksaves makes me so excited to give 6 another chance. I actually pre-ordered this for switch. I pretty much never pre-order anything.
I'm ready for replays, but waiting on my physical version I got through Playasia which is fine as I'm currently working on Triangle Strategy and in the process of a move at the moment lol.
I love additions they made to these games, especially the trophy support. What I don't love however is the fact that I'll have to grind these rare af summons in FFIV. As for the price, I live in Germany and the first three games cost 12€ while 4-6 cost 18€ each, so it adds up to 90€ in total which makes the bundle more approachable for me. It is a pretty steep price tag for old games, but seeing as I get 6 games in total here, 3 that I've never played before and 2 that I've only played once, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. In total it's still cheaper than most newer games here. I remember last year, maybe early summer or so all the games were a lot cheaper on the app store, I think 8 or 9€ for the old games and 12 or so for the newer ones, but then they got two price hikes in a relatively short time until they were where they are now, so a bit cheaper, like 60 for all 6 games is not THAT far-fetched.
Switch is a classic FF machine now, being able to play 1-10/10-2 and 12! Waiting for my playasia order but it will be worth the wait. Thanks for the content Max!

It sounds like a really small thing, but I wish they could have just included the extra Jobs, weapons, bosses and dungeon from FFV Advance. That little inclusion would make it perfect
The added content in all of the GBA and PSP versions really was top-tier. Not including it makes no sense to me. If it comes later as a free DLC I won't mind that, but leaving it out is just nonsense
@@ZenMonkeyGod Keep in mind, SE didn’t work on the GBA ports, it was developed by Tose. These are remasters of the original games, not the ports, so I would assume that no updates will be made. (Would be cool though)
These games are so polished in this collection, they’ve really impressed me. I am going to buy them one at a time (currently playing 6) but I feel like there should have been a noticeable money saving if you bought all as a bundle. Like you said $60 would have been an excellent incentive to go all in. But as for the games themselves, I have zero complaints!
Maybe they'll do that later...but for now they're profiting off people like me that will $75 for all six when I really just want to play three of them haha

I'll probably buy it later. I'm buying the originals right now, even in Japanese. The NES ones are easier, as it uses only hiragana and katakana. It will be nice way to try to learn Japanese, as I learned English playing FF6.

Yes this bundle is very expensive but I remember buying final fantasy 3 on snes at Christmas the year it came out. It was 85 dollars at service merchandise. Chrono trigger was almost 90 dollars at release on snes.
Good review ! I live the FF series especially the classic games. I’m happy they are on modern consoles and I don’t have to dig out my old stuff I would love the 3D remakes of 3 and 4 from DS on modern consoles but for iOS these are lovely. I do wish also that 4 after years and stuff were included.
No exp going to be nice for FFVI stats maxing. For the XP/AP/Gil boost, I don't think I will use it because after a couple of playtrough you don't want to be overleveled since you no more have the difficulty of not knowing boss weakness but it's there for people who want it. Honestly, I'm just happy to be able to play it on my switch while smoking a big blunt outside :)

I’m doing them in order. I’ve only ever played X and the XVI demo. Beyond excited to experience this entire magical series.

Hot take: I like this better than HD2D. If you ask me, HD2D is a little "much" and sometimes the sprites just get lost in all the lighting effects and shadows. This is clean, and pretty looking sprite work that still holds the spirit of classic games from that era.

As a parent of younger kids and put in my time of grinding these games I luv the fact that the extra XP and Gil boost is here. I bought all games without hesitation. My only wish is that 5 and 6 can't be played 2 player online. I was hoping when I first heard about release.
I feel like the XP and Gil boost is more to help out nostalgic fans as they want to get down and dirty with the story quicker. If you introduce your younger kids to such boosts, as they get older they will want more boosts like these and will complain if there is none. Have them suffer the same way you did back in the 90s lol
@@RaikaSTi i agree, we suffered so must the next gen 😂. The pain of grinding is kind of a charm for these old school jrpgs imo and it makes beating them that much sweeter.
As far as ff1 the best version is on psp the Sprites look way better imo and you get the bonus content from the dawn of souls gba version
Pixel Perfect/Pixel Remaster is the way to go. Preserve the classic games that we grew up with. From the 8bit to the 32 or 64 bits. Also because I'm running out of room space for my collection of retro games, consoles and peripherals so that's that
I picked up the entire collection on my Nintendo switch! After playing final fantasy 1 it’s a HUGE step up from the nes port im not the biggest final fantasy fan but I’m also not new to the franchise either I made it far in final fantasy 9 I am so happy I got this for my Nintendo switch! Trying out the other 5 games will be a treat! 😊
I’m happy with my switch collection. I have 1-10, 10-2, and 12, all digital on my switch so I can change to any of them at a moments notice
Not bad, I would play over FF 6 again for sure. Though I would like for square to rerelease the FF3 and FF4 remakes they did for 3ds and later got ported to PC on consoles. I love those remakes

They don't. They have frame pacing issues that require mods to fix on PC. Still present on the console editions.
I love ff more for 7, 8 and 10. I finished 15 but was not hooked like 7, 8 and 10
Yeah 15 wasn't great, it had its moments but so much of it felt lifeless/unfinished, hopefully 16 is as good as it looked in that last state of play.

FFIII is so my favorite because the story started off kinda like Lunar Silver Star Story on PS1. PS1 started off going to explore the Dragon Cave with Ramus for treasure and started an incredible story, Switch version seems to follow that somewhat and reminds me of my favorite RPG of all time, Lunar.
I would love to get this collection, but for the moment you have to buy each separately. I don't want to do that so I'll wait until a bundle appears on the PS store.

They definitely improved the font, but I still wish there is a choice of making it larger to make it more comfortable for playing it on a portable device.

I entered this series with the FF7 remake a couple years ago and loved it. I wanted to try FF6 next, and played for about 20 hours on my PS1 before putting it down due to it's archaic slow tedious nature. Seeing the EXP boost option and quicksaves makes me so excited to give 6 another chance. I actually pre-ordered this for switch. I pretty much never pre-order anything.

You should try the original FF7. FF7 Remake is more of a sequel. It changes up the story.

The font looks fine on the TV. You can't even tell it's pixelated on the Switch screen, though. They need to make the font thicker.
I'll get it when it's at a discount on PSN. $75 is a bit steep for 6 retro games even if they are enhanced.

I love additions they made to these games, especially the trophy support. What I don't love however is the fact that I'll have to grind these rare af summons in FFIV.
As for the price, I live in Germany and the first three games cost 12€ while 4-6 cost 18€ each, so it adds up to 90€ in total which makes the bundle more approachable for me. It is a pretty steep price tag for old games, but seeing as I get 6 games in total here, 3 that I've never played before and 2 that I've only played once, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. In total it's still cheaper than most newer games here.
I remember last year, maybe early summer or so all the games were a lot cheaper on the app store, I think 8 or 9€ for the old games and 12 or so for the newer ones, but then they got two price hikes in a relatively short time until they were where they are now, so a bit cheaper, like 60 for all 6 games is not THAT far-fetched.

It sounds like a really small thing, but I wish they could have just included the extra Jobs, weapons, bosses and dungeon from FFV Advance. That little inclusion would make it perfect

The added content in all of the GBA and PSP versions really was top-tier. Not including it makes no sense to me. If it comes later as a free DLC I won't mind that, but leaving it out is just nonsense

These are remasters of the original games, not the ports, so I would assume that no updates will be made.

These games are so polished in this collection, they’ve really impressed me. I am going to buy them one at a time (currently playing 6) but I feel like there should have been a noticeable money saving if you bought all as a bundle. Like you said $60 would have been an excellent incentive to go all in. But as for the games themselves, I have zero complaints!
Maybe they'll do that later...but for now they're profiting off people like me that will $75 for all six when I really just want to play three of them haha

The NES ones are easier, as it uses only hiragana and katakana. It will be nice way to try to learn Japanese, as I learned English playing FF6.

Grinding is the best part of any final fantasy game let alone any JRPG.

Yes this bundle is very expensive but I remember buying final fantasy 3 on snes at Christmas the year it came out. It was 85 dollars at service merchandise. Chrono trigger was almost 90 dollars at release on snes.
Right, but they did not just come out. At release that price was justified and normal. These are 30+ year old games at this point things change
Good review ! I live the FF series especially the classic games. I’m happy they are on modern consoles and I don’t have to dig out my old stuff I would love the 3D remakes of 3 and 4 from DS on modern consoles but for iOS these are lovely. I do wish also that 4 after years and stuff were included.

No exp going to be nice for FFVI stats maxing. For the XP/AP/Gil boost, I don't think I will use it because after a couple of playtrough you don't want to be overleveled since you no more have the difficulty of not knowing boss weakness but it's there for people who want it. Honestly, I'm just happy to be able to play it on my switch while smoking a big blunt outside :)
