    Larry was the man, I watched the Celtics all through the eighties. (I’m 71). He was top man then and now. There was nothing like sitting down with a cold beer and watching Bird do his thing. Really something to look forward to after a hard week. Bird was special.

    This Rocket's team was loaded too. Rodney McC won an NCAA title with Louisville. Reid was very good and then Samson and The Dream. Thing is, when Larry and the Celtics turned it up, then beat everyone. Jordan, Magic, Hakeem, DOM, Pistons, Sixers, Bucks. Everyone.
    Larry Bird is/was the best all around basketball player of all time.
    Parrish was a damn track star. So underated. So many hustles for long outlets for easy buckets. His hands her like glue and was a great finisher. McHale's FG% was pretty tasty too. Hustle was rewarded with dimes from Bird, DJ, Danny and Walton.

    It was naturally assumed every season that the Lakers would come out of the West. They were that dominant. So it was a surprise that Houston broke through in 1986.
    BTW, one of the bench replacements as Bird comes out was Rick Carlisle, who was on the 84 and 86 Celtics championship teams, and then (I think) Bird gave him his first assistant coaching job in Indiana. And the Rocket that scores the final basket before the fans swarm the court was Craig Ehlo, more famous from when Jordan hit the famous buzzer-beater in 1989 against him (when he was a Cav).

It was crazy way to play but they were masters at it. 3:45 Dream shake wasn’t working on Bird,You would need to bring it up and forced to shoot cause if you bring it down to fake or dribble,they would strip you clean baby. Detroit was victimized by that soooo many times….it was fun watching them play. Look into Cleveland play too,they was also fun to watch but you don’t hear much of them if at all…. I think he naturally played basketball right handed, shooting, dribbling, and at some point worked to become proficient with both.

    James Worthy said he rather guard Jordan anytime instead of Bird. As you see Bird played every play as it was his last. He was always at the right place at the right time. Court sense. The only player that had that besides Bird is the Great Keith Lee of Memphis State in the early eighties. Keith Lee was the highest scoring High School player until Hersey Hawkins beat him but Lee never had a 3 point line.

      It was a spectacular game. I remember watching it. Jordan was absolutely on fire with his medium range jumper. Unstoppable. But it was the classic case of a team beating one player. Not to criticize Jordan, but, watching it, I remembered Red Auerbach once said, of Charley Scott (who remembers him? Very good offensive player), "Your basic Score 25, lose by 13 player." Repeat, not slamming Jordan, whom Bird called the best player of his era.

    That so called clean Block was Off the Glass first and therefore it is a Goal Tending. Open your eyes 👀 they showed it at a better angle and it was clearly off the glass

    Legend may be the purest shooter of all time, but the part of his game that put him head n shoulders above the rest was his trash talking.
    Legend would tell a guy exactly what he was going to do the next time he had the ball, and then he would do it!
    How humiliating would that be?
    Larry once told a coach as he went by the bench, “I’m insulted that you have a white guy guarding me”.
    The best players of Birds era, and coaches, have said Legend had the best basketball intellect of anyone in the game. He was always three steps ahead of everyone on the court.

    For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play.
    At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go:
    Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics:
    Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88);
    All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88);
    Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012).
    Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons.
    Career averages:
    24.3 points per game
    10.0 rebounds per game
    6.3 assists per game
    88.6% free throw percentage
    49.6% field goal percentage
    37.6% 3-point percentage
    Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. He likely used these crutches after season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season

      Yeah, no. Larry was on the rise. Along with his Celtics. Dr J was toast by the time he & Larry had that fight. And he knew it. Nobody likes to see themselves become obsolete. Larry got out on his own terms, which was smart.

    6:01 "dude got no handles, he's patting the ball" ... that's called dribbling. Iverson had not yet infected the league with the carrying that today's players call a dribble.
