  • This part has it all: Great ideas, failures and a happy ending!
The car now is powered by a Toyan L400 and TP Power 4070 brushless motor.
You see the transmission build, drivetrain and even some spinning wheels.
I can not wait to fire the Nitro engine and really start rippinˋ...
    Thanks for watching !
The Toyan engine can be found here:

@@timsane If I may rearrange your words. It is not sad that you are a perfectionist. The fact that it sometimes makes life complicated? Ok. But, it is obvious that you do not work from a blueprint. You are not recreating someone else's idea. In building construction it is called "fastrack". Design as you build. Make it up as you go along. Tim, if you settle for, good enough? You would not serve your fans, or yourself. Cheers!!!!

I brought this idea up a few years ago; about how to integrate a electric motor to my existing gas power driven car. I have a 1987 Porsche 944, with a 2.5L 4-cyl/8-valve motor that only produces about 148HP total, but only (roughly) 128 at the wheel. However, instead of upgrading the motor to a larger block; like an 3.0L 16-valve, or better an LS2, I thought of using an electric motor tied to the drive shaft to assist in acceleration. I also thought of adding a electric flywheel to do the same. However, the gas motor will do most of the power, the electric motor is only used as a power assist.

    • @timsane

I would love that too, but that would add weight, needs space and it will fail due to the engine power (wait until it gets 20psi of boost 😉) So I decided against it. The brushless motor helps to get the car off the line FAST and then the nitro will start screaming. Thank you for watching and your comment!

nice work, you need to invest in a TIG welder....more precise and much stronger welds.

Why 22 thumbs down?? I will never understand why people hate on others! Are you mad you have not fabricated something like this cool rc car?? Mad you don't get off your ass and do anything with yourself so you hate on others? Get a life bums.

Thank you very much! Often I feel people give a thumbs down if they are not patient enough to wait until projects are finished. I want to make it right which means it takes time. Nowadays people want everything NOW . Again, thanks for your support

Hi, eins vorab... Echt klasse Arbeit👌

Glad to see I am not the only one who messes up and spends time re-doing things due to a bad calculation. I have to ask why an electric motor along with the internal combustion engine do you think the engine is not powerful enough on its own, at first I thought it was going to be for reverse motion.
What RPM does the 5th scale clutch bite, as you can get many different springs from five thousand and nine thousand five hundred RPM there are a few out there which are adjustable along with different materials for the clutch pads, I have tried the MIP/MOD five shoe and the Turtle Racing, FID and Area RC clutch's and have just found a three shoe one which I am hoping will combat my problem of excessive wear due to running big CC engines in my 5th scale offroad trucks and buggies from 32cc through to 50cc and still hunting the perfect clutch set up, looking forward to seeing more of this build and have just subscribed and will be watching your back catalogue of builds to watch while waiting for parts to arrive from my overworked courier service.

Hey Nick, first of all I am concerned that the nitro engine might be to weak for this big car. Therefore I added the hidden „assistance“. Second, I installed 8k springs because the engine idles at about 5.5k and redlines at about 13k. At least in theory 8k feels like a good starting point. But I think i will find out shortly..... Thanks for subscribing, welcome onboard!

I hope the motor would not over rev the engine.

I made some calculations regarding gearing of both systems and it should be pretty close. Hopefully the Toyan will rev higher later when I finished all modifications.

Hi Tim. I get the 4 stroke driving through a clutch. I don't get the electric motor being synchronised with it. Direct drive motor and indirect drive four stroke ? Please clarify. Another GREAT episode. Thanks again

    • @timsane
      @timsane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey, what seems to be complicated is very easy to do: Brushless system is programmed to a specific setting ( by the way I am running a soft setting here... it will be much crazier later) then the nitro engine gets dialed in with extra servos and linkage. When I let of the throttle the nitro rpm drops, clutch disengages and only the motor will be spun further. Then I can even use the motor to brake the rear axle independently from the (hydraulic disc brake) front axle. I will show how it works in another episode. Thank you for watching and being part of our small community.

Unfortunately not... but I filmed the manual showing the exact part number on the cover. I am sure you can find it on google. There are also cheaper alternatives but I do not know if they work equally as good. Thanks for watching
