- The flood that swept through Mullumbimby Sunday night (feb 27) was a 500 year flood they say. I lay on my kitchen table on a makeshift bed and watched it silently and imperceptibly rise. That might sound horrifying to some but I got off easy compared to so many. In the hills surrounding Mullumbimby the torrential downpour cause landslides and racing waters that one woman speaks of seeing a cow and a car floating past. It's devastating ...But Mullumbimby is one hell of a town. The community pulled together like nothing I've ever seen before. A little town with a HUGE heart!!
This video is a documentation of the timeline from the night of the flood to day 10 when Morrison (finally) declares the flood and aftermath a state of national emergency. It only touches on the incredible work the volunteers have done and continue to do as they swarm around the place leaving smiles, and cleaned houses in their wake.
I have fallen in love with the people of Mullumbimby through this experience. I'm a newcomer, been here only just over a year to be near family who moved here over 20 years ago. I now see what they see. A strong and loving people.

I think I'm able to keep cool BECAUSE of the filming. Something strange happens. I see with the camera's lens not my eyes. I am able to stay a little removed and then process later. And it kept me busy with the editing, focusing on something outside myself. --Thank you for your kind comment.

Thank you! It's so easy to be optimistic when you know that so many have been badly effected. I genuinely feel quite lucky. Today I heard a story about a couple of families on one Mullumbimby street that sought refuge on their roof! 15 people including kids, one of them a baby! They were there in the rain until 6 am before being rescued. Can you imagine? My heart hurts for them.Thanks so much for watching the video! :)

Thanks Susie, Yes so very distressing. My spirits are good, my mind is good, just my body has that constant uncomfortable anxiety feeling in the chest. I'm taking is as a wake up call.
If it's wet or dry, cold or hot, it's always 'climate change' to the rainbow people ideologues. Meanwhile the enemies of the west continue to grow their nuclear, coal, oil and gas resources unabated . I do admire the spirit of the communities fwiw. Don't blame the Morrison government though - another opportunistic political message to make you all feel together and comfily orthodox .

And the rain keeps falling down here in Fiji. We had our flood in January... and hope we don't get another in March.

Is anyone enquiring into the phone and internet outages? This is outrageous.
Anyone on Telstra (me) had no service for at least a week. Don't know any more than that though. I will switching to another carrier because occasionally I still have "SOS calls only".
@@MoMcMorrow The service seems dismal everywhere, Optus also, can't even load a page on phone half the time.
