- This is my really close friend Wojchiech Bilski and his family - trapped in the Lismore flood of February 28, 2022.
The last record flood was 12.5m in 1880.
In 2017 flood waters reached 8.5m
This time, a huge rain event has moved down the coast into northern NSW from south east Queensland. Massive rainfalls have flooded the river that flows through the main NSW regional city of Lismore.
Overnight… the river has been rising. The Bilski family moved from the ground floor to their first floor and finally to the attic as the river levels rose.
The water has now trapped them. At 8am they are desperate to be saved by State Emergency Services.
The SES are overwhelmed.
The water keeps rising… and at 13.5m the water is about to reach the floor of the attic.
Eventually they are saved

I also lived in South Lismore during the flood. Lost absolutely everything.

Was out there today with the boat. People really needed help. No time to film but I’ll show my family what we had to go through. Sorry about ur home but it can be rebuilt. Ur lives are worth so much more.

This system didn't move we already had 12 months of rain and I told people to move i said we'll have a moment on Saturday and get packed and get out
I work on the roads and when I see where the water is flowing and i was getting water in the places where it is normally last but was first. Unfortunately the ses and council had no idea. But localls didn't either. The bom and weather predictions in this area are crap
The civilian boat operators were the absolute apex of heroism and support for the community today in Lismore. Without them, it was beyond grim...amazing work all of you 👍💙

I helped a friend clean his house that's only a few houses from that Liberty servo the other day. His house isn't lifted up like most of the houses in the area, it only has 3 steps from the ground and is only a few houses from the river. He only saved his wife and cat plus a handful of wet photos.
So many would have died if it were not for the boating heroes. Perhaps the dead whale can be removed and a monument put in its place to the heroes!
has the bypass near Woodburn to Broadwater to Ballina were the bypass has been built over the flood plains, were the sugarcane is grown had any impact on the flood levels its like a breakwall and holds back more water than before. All flood from time to time but this time was different.
Kempsey floods but has the bridge built over the flood plains so there is less obstruction for the water to get away that should be looked at aswell ??????

It hit 14.26mtrs just after lunchtime
14.39 is the highest i saw before the river gauge broke. The pump station gauge is still online though.
