Happy I found this video! As person who don’t play any instruments and currently got interest in chinsese flute this was very helpful! Thank you very much
@@JoeCreator The fact is that, myself I am playing Chinese dizi and Indian bansuri since 15Y now, and I still have some fails blowing on it and closing the holes correctly, this is not an easy instrument at all. Anyway that is a nice instrument and easy to transport anywhere during a journey. Native American flute is way easier to play.
This is a perfect video to show how difficult it is to get a note on Dizi. Then, suddenly get one. Once you had one then the fun begins. Lucky for you your music background gave you a fantastic tune to play. This is a year old so I'm looking forward to your follow up video. If there is one. Thanks for a fun lesson!
Watching this is like watching myself today, a Crazy Norwegian trying to learn the Dizi flute. And you just showed me how to blow into that hole better, as my dog was pretty mad at me for the sounds I made before watching this. Thank you so very much.
Well I have buy a Chinese flute and trying to play that instrument 😅but never thought it was hard to play 😅I glad to have found this video it help me a lot thank you😊
I learned and played Dizi for like 3 years in China. I partially mastered it by practicing some specific techniques only to pass the level 10 amateur certificate. It was a pain transferring a hobby to a job, so I completely gave up this instrument when I studied internationally. 😢Now I see your video, I just think of the very first few days playing dizi because of nothing but interests. Thank you man. I will pick up my hobby and enjoy what dizi brings me.😊
@@JoeCreator It looked fun. I've learnt a few instruments already but haven't tried a flute for years. I guess if I got it straight away it wouldn't be as fun.
Wow, soooo glad to see you playing Dizi 笛子(after 二胡Erhu、唢呐Suona and 琵琶Pipa)! The shape of the lips and the angle at which the breath enters Dizi are both very important to make a sound. Looking foward to more videos with Dizi!
the holes on the top half of your dizi are not aligned inline with the holes of the bottom half, you will have a hard time adjusting your hand position
U playing like that in first day was so amazing aaah it's been a month and I'm still forgetting the notes name and number and still can't fix my blow 😭😭😭 it's a quite hard instrument
I’ve been learning it for 8 years. You should buy some shorter ones (which says G) to practice first, since dizi requires good control of air to play it, longer ones need a more precise control.
The diaphragm you can’t directly control so this is a tad misleading although you’re absolutely right you can’t play anything without support, I describe it as the motion your stomach makes when you say fffffffff or shhhhhhhh
The dimo is intended to produce a special vibrating sound, but if not in use, it is totally usable covering the hole by a piece of tape, anyway that is not really the purpose to have I chinese dizi to use that way ...
Any follow up for this instrument? I've been blowing like 30 mins and not a single sound, I lost count how many times I almost passed out. Nice content by the way, keep it up
Hey, welcome to the world of dizi! I am an intermediate player of 4 months. If you have Discord I can invite you to a server where you can receive tips etc
I can only play guitar and i have not tried any flute before. I am into chinese culture so i wanna try to play dizi. Is it hard? I guess once you can make a sound the rest is easy. Is it true?
It’s definitely not easy, but once you get used to it: It slowly becomes a little bit easier. It takes a lot of practice. I’ve been playing for 8, almost 9 months now.
Bro you were amazing ❤ i just received my order Dizi and when i tried it i thought it was not working cause it couldn't make a sound ... And now I'm practicing it cause i found out it was my blowing that was bad. actually its my Day 1 practicing ... Btw do you have or anyone have a tip on the blowing part on dizi cause its hard 😢
No, by default flutes are to be held to your right side. However, Western flutes can be custom made to be held to your left side. I think its the same for dizi but I'm not sure.
Hi Joe, wow you learn to play flute so fast haha. Maybe you can try playing this, my fav flute song, if you ever feel interested in playing the flute. A slow and beautiful piece. th-cam.com/video/-5qhNRmMilI/w-d-xo.html Although it's played on the bamboo flute, I used to play it on western long flute. With similar tone on the flute you got I think it would be a nice piece.
Have to tell you this one is not played by the flute Joe showed in the video, it is another kind of flute called Xiao(箫), if you want to know how it looks like, check this one th-cam.com/video/iMdtOGNGgFo/w-d-xo.html

这个乐器真的很难,气息要稳定,肺活量充沛,嘴型、出气吸气,手指调控一气呵成。

That scissors to cut the dimo is 100% similar to my grandma's 🤣🤣
"Embouchure"!
I had to google that one!
Now I need to practice putting that into a sentence!! :D
Wow,you are a genius .I was spent five days to have the sound .😂
😀genius, joe , next time you can try 洞箫(Dong Xiao), a kind of vertical bamboo flute, I think you will like its sound
This make me remind the first time i learned the Western flute XD totally related!!

纠正一下封面,在中文里长笛是指西洋管弦的笛子flute,中国传统的应该统称为竹笛bamboo flute ,二者之间还是有些区别的❤
good Job Joe
从小吹笛子的我表示,贴笛膜确实有技巧,要稍微贴皱一点才能吹出丝竹的音色,另外,现在我已经不知道是用什么胶水贴得笛膜了,看这个成色应该是阿胶
that's magic
I fell into a rabbit hole of Dizi. Im new to learning it but I already spent way too much money on 3 different Dizi flutes lol
Is it easy to play?
I’ve been learning it for 8 years. You should buy some shorter ones (which says G) to practice first, since dizi requires good control of air to play it, longer ones need a more precise control.
so good
It is a traditional Asian instrument... and is used to play Asian knives with very high sounds 😂😂
We usually used the membrane of garlic/onion.
你就是个天才
😅 For wind instruments like Dizi, you should be using your diaphragm not lungs else you’ll feel dizzy and tire easily.
The diaphragm you can’t directly control so this is a tad misleading although you’re absolutely right you can’t play anything without support, I describe it as the motion your stomach makes when you say fffffffff or shhhhhhhh
According to my research, you dont neccessary need the dimo to make sounds. But it definitely helps to make it easier.
The dimo is intended to produce a special vibrating sound, but if not in use, it is totally usable covering the hole by a piece of tape, anyway that is not really the purpose to have I chinese dizi to use that way ...
left hand goes nearest to your face and you hold it to your left
不错不错。
Was it intentional to say 'I'm going dizzy' when you are playing a DiZi? 🤣

Hello senior
is it possible to play the dizi on various scales like C sharp D Major scale on the same dizi??
Just different flutes. They are fairly cheap.
There is also a larger bass G, B flat.
Me pasó lo mismo con una Bansuri, pero yo ni siquiera pude hacerla sonar, hasta después de 5 intentos durante el día 🤣🤣
Wow, 30 mins that is impressive. I tried for two hours at 1st time. I got headache every 15 mins.😢 difficult to practice.
Yes after 30 minutes I was getting a bit tired 😂
How much you got it.
I will order the membranes then watch this to put them on.
This flute is not for playing, Mr. Jan, other songs are simply played differently 😂😂😂😂

Ok I shouldn't buy a dizi on a whim lol. I've never played a flute, I thought it was more straight forward like an ocarina
an ocarina like a recorder has a fipple just blow into it and it makes a sound but with a dizi you have to be very accurate to get any type of sound.
