it's basically a sub-contra-bass flute with fewer keys and an inability to be played solo. The sub-contra-bass flute is massive, ludicrously expensive due to how niche it is, and requires a stupidly large lung capacity to be able to play to any degree of competency.

Lovely & she is so talented. Who knew a human could have sufficient breath to blow the final enormous flute? She has wonderful embouchure control. Such a pity they added synthesizer to her performance as it masked some of the beauty of her performance. I learnt flute for five years & was 1st flute in my high school orchestra. I’ve tried a range of flutes, and the larger the flute, the more huff & puff is needed! But, thanks for posting!
Love it how the biggest flute generates the most gentle sound. It's brought tears to my eyes bc there's a wisdom teaching behind it if you think about it: the greatest one is the most humble.
My favorite part is from 1:20 to 2:05. The action of picking up the flute is very elegant. When she opens her mouth, as a flute practitioner, I know that her level has reached a very high level. I particularly admire those who can reach the master level in a certain field. By contrast, whatever I do, I can only reach the middle level. I can read books, learn musical instruments, learn programming, learn electronic circuits and so on. Maybe it's because she lost her legs when she was young, so she focused on it. Like the most famous Erhu composer of Erquan Yingyue in China, Taoist Ah Bing, because he was blind, he could concentrate on hearing and music. It's a little sad to hear the music. The above can only be an excuse. Few people in the world have become masters in a certain field. Most of them can only be ordinary. I am just an ordinary person.
The thing is, being talented in many things even if its a midway mastery is pretty exceptional! Theres even a saying based around this where I grew up. A jack of all trades is often times better than a king of one. I think its fine to master one thing, but it is even better and more practical to learn and grow in as many ways as possible. Sounds like you've grown a lot and that is amazing!
I once tried to play a very basic flute. It was a painful experience. I couldnt even begin to imagine the hardwork it took to be able to play to this extent. Impressive work 👏👏👏
can we please just recognise HOW MUCH AIR AND LUNG POWER YOU NEED FOR A FLUTE THAT BIG. Like you already see ppl straining on tubas, but THAT? she has my full respect.
Every flute was incredible. To be sitting down playing must be difficult to do. I don't know if a sound came out of the last huge instrument she was blowing into. I wasn't hearing any flute sounds. This was beautiful to watch and listen to
Does anyone know roughly how far that sound would carry, say if it were played from the top of a hill/mountain? Because that's what I was imagining, someone in the ancient past building the flute and playing these beautiful sounds to be heard for miles.
It might carry but depends on how many other competing sounds there are and how loud she is playing. The fact is that the lower the frequency the further the note carries which is why you can usually hear the bass and drums from miles away at a concert. I don't believe this flute playing would carry that far, not because the flute isn't loud but because a player would not be able to push enough air through it to make a loud enough sound. However, from my experience playing standard concert flute on mountains and hilltops, the sound definitely carries in very echoey places and you will hear it from miles away too.
